warning... does contain flashing images

What do I need to know?

Controling one Vorton at a time, There are 5 in total; you need to clear a path along the highway using your laser. Your spare Vortons will then push the Lasertron to the alien base. Being careful as your spare Vortons are vulnerable to attack from aliens. If all 4 spare Vortons are destroyed you will have to manually push the lasertron the rest of the way...

You can find your own way of playing but I like to block the path of the Lasertron and then scout ahead with your playable Vorton clearing a safe path. Allowing the rest of the Vortons to push the Lasertron freely.

How do I control a Vorton?

Forward and backward motion are made using the left analog stick, while rotation is made using the right analog stick. R1 will fire your laser... But that will overheat if overused. Circle button will change the camera angle and pressing the left stick will provide your Vorton with a speedy boost.

Highway Encounter only works with 1 player

Inspired by Highway Encounter; A computer game released on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K by Vortex Software in 1985. It is a strategy/action game played from a 3D isometric perspective and was written by Costa Panayi. There are plenty of videos of the original game on a famous video sharing website...

I took a look at your level, and I LOVED it! This level was unique for LBP, fun, and challenging. I took me a couple retries to get a technique, but when I did I was having a lot of fun!

Suggestions:
-Make the player able to collect lives
-Possibly make Checkpoints, and at the ends of the level, it shows how many checkpoints they passed, so they can upload a picture of it.
-Health bar for the little circle thing you drive, because it get annoying how I die by just touching the bad guy.
-Possibly a menu, where you learn the controls and techniques or somehting.

Pros:
-Fun
-Unique for LBP

Cons:
-A bit to challenging, not allowing most player to get past the bridge.
-No controls given.

I really like this level because it was addicting and fun.
Yay and a Heart.

Thanks very much for the review... I am looking into giving each Vorton a small health bar... I have also made a few changes to make it a little easier before the (first) bridge.2011-07-27 22:52:00

Each Vorton now has a health bar. 1 hit will take it down by 50%. So, you can hit an enemy twice before warping back into a new Vorton. This gives you 10 lives rather than 5

Okay, nice stuk.

I played your level before the update, so neglect any comments regarding the difficulty.

So, this little gem is all ignored and abandoned? Why, really? It is truly unique in terms of gameplay and visuals and it's still not enough? I?m telling you people, you have not played this before in LBP. Well, I haven?t. This is quite a unique little puzzle game that you can play in different ways and which is really challenging. Challenging, you say? How challenging? Well, because of the different controls, it really takes a while to get used to the way you play this. The whole level looks nice and clean and really what a puzzle game should look like. That?s not this game?s virtue though.

The actual appeal comes in the form of gameplay and strategy. You control a little drone that is sent to escort the Lazertron into the alien base along a highway (hence the title). Doing this is hard, really, really hard and it does take a couple of times to master the controls. But after you have mastered it, it's really a blast. It's very original and deserves a lot more plays.

If you have the time I?d like you to invite to play and give feedback on my level Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield:

I'll be taking a look at this one for sure, it seems very original and challenging - a nice mix for my tastes! I'll add this to the Queue and get a review up here shortly.

In the meantime if you'd like to take a look at my first level, The Dwarven Mines, I'd like to see if you had any feedback for me. Much appreciated!

Your review:

Wow, what an original level. The concept is simple yet elegant. At first the controls were hard to get acclimated with, and I can see how people might become frustrated easily. This is definitely worth playing for those of you that haven't and I highly highly recommend it. Very enjoyable, nice work. Yay!

@ DoodVogeltje,
Thank you for your very good review of Highway Encounter. I wanted to create a 'game' rather than a 'level'. I am glad that you appreciated and 'understood' my concept. I have queued up Tubular Bells and I look forward to it. I'm a Mike Oldfield fan myself; I have had 'Crisis' going over in my head since I queued up your level. I look forward to it.

@ AtlanteanNomad7
Two very positive pieces of feedback in a row? Thank you and I am glad you very much enjoyed Highway Encounter. I have also queued up The Dwarven Mines, so, look out for some feedback soon
