It's All Going To Pot!

If you're not aware of that term, it means that everything is a disaster...

I always thought lbp's good/bad ratio was really awful, but now it is just ridiculous. I scavenge the game for good levels to play. I'd usually get maybe 20 good un's in a week. 3-4 per day of top quality stuff. It's been two weeks, and I've hearted three levels. One I only hearted because I thought the other two felt lonely.... What is going on? What seems to have caused such a ridiculous dry spell? I'm actually spending more time looking for levels than before, with minimal results.

It seems the game is turning more and more into some sort of social network. People spending more time in the profile comments than playing the game. Trolls are getting more attention, spammers are coming out of the woodwork, and I am hungry for levels! Is it just me? Well it can't be, for I often use various other members' hearted lists for levels, and they've greatly slowed down, also.

My apologies to those who have recently released levels and feel saddened by this post. If you have a good level, I have most likely missed it.... (Not a place to advertise)

You know, Ive noticed this too. Ive also noticed that much, much fewer people are playing the game. We all know the cool pages are junk, but each level normally doesnt end up with more than a few thousand plays. Lockstitchs latest has like 5000 after several weeks! Even MM picks are dwindling, its been about 3 weeks since the last one. But honestly, I dont know why this game seems to have fallen apart. Its one of the greatest and most innovating games ever, and its going to complete waste.2011-07-21 22:26:00

Please dont make this a "complain about how my levels dont get noticed" thread. There is WAY too much of that on this site...2011-07-21 22:36:00

It's the new wave of player that are young and thing the world is as large as their blogs. They got LBP 1 for free or just got LBP2. Also the new content on the horizon has made some serious creators hold off. Also it takes more to impress people now than in the past. Also search is a little broken.

Also you're looking in the wrong place;

No advertising in this thread is an interesting thing to say especially after saying it takes you ages to find levels to play. I have always used the showcase threads to find content. Never looked on cool pages, played some amazing stages from the showcase thread. One comes to mind that only had 10 or so plays 30 views and no comments i played it abd it blew me away and I wrote how good it was, but still no more comments in the thread. It dropped of the front page until it got Mm picked.

If you were scouring cool pages looking for these gems then my apologies for saying this. You're doing it wrong.

Like alot of people you're complaining about people in the game not talking about the game, you should be focusing on the people outside if the game that are talking about the game.

(Put numbers in so you know what I'm refering to.

1.I do look at cool pages just to see what a state it has become that is not where I'm looking. I use respectable people's hearted lists, this site, the spotlights etc.

2. Lolwut. Why should I focus on people outside of the game. They aren't all that relevant. And yes I am talking about people and levels in the game. These are really what make up the game...

Yeah, I'm starting to see less activity (*cough*good levels*cough*) in LBP2. I don't mean to bash on LBP1, but all the LBP1 levels on the "Cool" pages are all the same to me. Costumes, free stuff, etc. I always block out the LBP1 levels on the filter. I wouldn't suggest Lucky Dip, because even though it gives other creators a chance, the levels on there are rarely ever good. Maybe things will look up in the future? I don't know.2011-07-21 23:09:00

Will the DLC give any life to the game, or just more stupid movies?2011-07-21 23:32:00

There is still good stuff being published, but yeah, its getting buried under a lot of junk. LBP2 was doing really well for a while.

Now, I think people are seeing what is popular and just putting out simple levels for plays.

It's certainly gone down hill, but there are still great levels being released.

There are still good levels being released, but the problem is they're not noticed too much.

What really irritates me is that almost no platformers are being released anymore. Heck, all I can find are crappy movies / minigames now. People are forgetting that this is a platform game, and platforming is what LBP is best suited for.2011-07-22 03:54:00

Sorry I may not have bee clear, iphone on the bus... I meant that as an example there are people on this site going to a great deal of effort for their stages. The very fact that they are posting information about how they created something and are looking for open communication always leads to some thoughtful stages. Looking through the level showcase is far more productive than looking through cool pages.

This is arguably a shame, as why should the game require a separate channel to find quality. But at the moment it does. if I avoid the cool pages and queue stuff through this site and LBP.me it means that while I may miss some quality in the cool pages I am playing levels that I can feel more connected with be. It very rare I play something bad and quite often I find something awesome like chalk boy from little joker.

Maybe I am letting people down by not posting in the recommendations thread.

Correction: LBP1 is a platforming game. LBP2 is a Platform FOR Games. But yes the movies are annoying(some minigames are fun)

I agree that sadly there is a huge lack of good levels. It's really sad that all the wrong people are leaving. 2011-07-22 04:19:00

Its the kids who got LBP1 free. they want to make loads and loads of levels so all LBP1 levels are being buried. The game is far from dead, check this

It seems odd and kind of sad to me, thinking that LBP might be over. Well, as far as new releases go. Also, the idea of MM making something that isn't LBP is very strange. But hey, I thought it was strange that Sucker Punch was making something that wasn't Sly Cooper and that ended up being amazing So I have a feeling whatever this new game is won't be a disappointment.2011-07-22 05:57:00

I'm not creating atm because I'm not enjoying the deco-redering bug and simple stuff like that. :/
I need that LBP1 engine decoration to cover up the end of my thick layer cable darn it!!

MM could do some things to revive the interest in creating. They could make the multi-layer glitch, the 3D cam or the theck and thack official stuff. They could make an effort to eliminate the monstrous amount of bugs and lag/loading screens that make online play insufferable. They could put their back into doing what they never bothered to do since the series began: getting rid of the thorns like H4H and spam levels, so that only the people that deserve it get noticed. They could make the filter more effective so that no one needs to reset it every time and available on all categories. They could give priority to LBP2 levels so that no one has to wade through an olympic pool of outdated LBP1 levels everytime we do a text search.

Geez MM, maybe you could spend more time updating your game than making DLC. You remember updating, right? That thing you did right and often in LBP1 and now it's too much to ask for? Sure, we know you've got to make dandy sackboy costumes to get your weekly fix of easily-won $$$ but there's level links I would like to traverse without diverging from my friends in the process.

Sigh.
I'm not against them wanting to make a new IP. If it's going to be as original, charismatic and brilliant as LBP, bring it on. But at least they could clean up the mess that LBP2 is right now. There are the garbage levels and H4H as there ever was (but not getting any less popular over time), there are now trolls and spammers, good stuff becomes tougher and tougher to find, people make finding game-breaking bugs a hobby, MM doesn't give any signs of caring about all this... If they want LBP2 to last as much as LBP1 and prevent it from becoming stale, those Molecules better pull their arrses from the brainstorming table and work on these problems before "moving on". Or else it's their players who'll move on, but to another multiplayer games that are not LBP.

Adding to what SnipySev said, if MM doesn't support LBP2 when it desperately needs their help, it will definitely make whatever new game they're going to release seem a lot less appealing. Particularly if creativity is a part of it.2011-07-23 04:14:00

I hope i will go to the UK soon and tell MM to do something. If this game died and became infested with worthlessness i might not play it much like i did with LBP 1...2011-07-23 11:09:00
