No idea where I got this from. Anywho, I thought of recreating instead of recreating like I normally do, I'll come up with my own series. This allows more flexibilty for me, and'll probably keep me motivated. http://i50.tinypic.com/2ryk7l1.jpg Story wise, I'm at the basics. All that I know is it's set in the future. When I began to think about the limitations of Sackboy acting, I realised that a single weapon is what should be used, but thats no fun! Then, I had it... http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad217/Tommy012345/X11UAD.png Ta-Da! A universal device attached to ones hand, that allows 'Plug-Ins' for different weapons to be used. With this in hand (tee-hee), I thought of what else I find appealing in action games. For one, ability to interact with the enviroment. Because of this, constantly changing actions buttons (minus Square, which is always reload) that fit for the object your near to. So as not to limit Movement, L1 allows you to Sprint, as well as other functional actions associated with movement. At one point, I attempted Bullet Hits on walls... which worked! But only half the time. Other times, it messed up in a way that distracted you largely. So I settled on other ways to show you've missed http://i8.lbp.me/img/ft/fc8b3efa7e36b5fc6cccf7f6b695f94dd676b1eb.jpg L-Stick - Move R-Stick - Aim X - Action (Prompt) ■ - Jump O - Switch Weapons (From dropped - Prompt) ▲ - Reload R1 - Action (/Fire weapon) R2 - (Un)Holster weapon L1 - Sprint (mode) L2 - [Undecided] D-Pad - Equipment Sprint mode: ■ - Dive (Longer jumper) O - Roll (Also allows for weapon switch if placed correctly) UPDATE: Just about everything has changed over the course of creating and I'm still trying to figure out all the little bits, but I will keep working on this! http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/863f478e892f2ac03bcd11a0a0aaefe8a4913e44.jpg | 2011-07-21 00:46:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
Wow that looks really nice and sleek. I like the gas masked enemy, looks awesome. Btw I like the Ad picture. It looks awesome | 2011-07-21 02:52:00 Author: SPARTANDUDE924 Posts: 285 |
Wow, cool! It already looks really good. The idea of using the same buttons for multiple commands is a good one, and has been used to a good effect in say, Assassin's Creed. Is that the kind of game you want? As for the villains, I greatly prefer the last two on the right. The Second to last one has a creepy 'Phantom of the Opera' look about him, while the last one is simply evil! They seem like the kind of guys who would suddenly appear, without a sound, right inside your house and kidnap your family. And then they'd be gone. You could make a few really good cutscenes on that premise alone. I don't really like the others, though. I don't find them even slightly menacing. I'm a fan of cutscenes, I'd like to see some! You could make a lot more guns, maybe some that do different things (Maybe acid or splash damage) Or, you could take the Ratchet Gladiator path of 'Mods,' so any weapon could be acidic or produce napalm. That depends on whether you want to invest your time in more weapons or more modifications. | 2011-07-21 03:25:00 Author: tomodon246 Posts: 624 |
Thanks! Think of them like... Special operatives. Undertaking missions, well, like you said! Hm? Originally, I was planning on a 'collecting weapons' sort of technique, but I might change it too having only two at once and being able to pickup/drop the "Plug-Ins" from others. EDIT: Ok, I've changed it to, well, that ^ . If you check out the demonstration level, they'll to two weapons; one to your left, the other to your right. You can pick up and fire each of these weapons, then switch to the other. Oh! R2 is the Weapons menu, I should add. | 2011-07-21 11:07:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
Still wondering what a movement action could be for Triangle? I tried the idea of Power-up (Light shield, Grenade) but realised it limits the use of the button. | 2011-07-21 21:20:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
Still wondering what a movement action could be for Triangle? I tried the idea of Power-up (Light shield, Grenade) but realised it limits the use of the button. While your sprinting like you have for Roll and Jump? I would say dodge. Have the player do a flip, making them invincible for a second or so. | 2011-07-21 21:29:00 Author: Zero10100 Posts: 385 |
Maybe Triangle could be a power-up they unlock through story mode, or an item. Such as... Cloak of invisibility. Or Flight Boots. and For the enemies. I like the Last two on the Right. But specifically the one in the white mask. just awesome. | 2011-07-21 21:42:00 Author: fighterwindplus Posts: 403 |
Well, I figured out a story! Though due to its plot, I can't reveal too much. Here's the Protagonist (Two different ages): http://if.lbp.me/img/ft/82f9b25dd8c92289f946e4d562300cd05528b14c.jpg & Currently working on a Menu screen: http://i8.lbp.me/img/ft/6f8f93302bb9933d6a4713f59d3f8f78e94a251d.jpg | 2011-07-22 19:58:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
Think will be back on track soon... Though I doubt anyone is reading this I'll soon post the setting you'll be playing in. Think of it as a Lawless Space age... A western, Y2K style. This. Is the System you'll be exploring. http://i937.photobucket.com/albums/ad217/Tommy012345/Universe.png (Rough idea) | 2011-07-26 19:38:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
Ok, so since I fixed my PS3, I've been revising the controls, HUD and setup. First, I've scraped the multi-use face buttons... Things were getting too complex. The next thing was how things were going: First, holding L1 enabled Sprint (Socially "WTF?") Because of such, there will be a Awareness meter (Similar to Hitman or Assassin's Creed). Depending on your actions and who's around you, the Player silhouette will change between White (Neutral), Yellow (Suspicious), Orange (Wanted) and Red (Hunted). http://i5.lbp.me/img/ft/a55f92d5a762bf28ac0f93d908f8e3b528c8de36.jpg I've also revised the Enemy. Mantis Corp. Forces: http://i1.lbp.me/img/ft/4e1b4f85d751a7b22ee6990da2ddaf4eb3ae45bf.jpg http://i6.lbp.me/img/ft/7167e04ae0c2bb9b4b41084a57dec206667309ee.jpg These more Human looking soldiers are the Police of the Raidon system. As shown in the map, this comprises of Raidon I, II and III (Destroyed - Only the moon Trigun remains). Each planet represents a style of living. Raidon I is for the wealthy. Their higher-standard of location was the result Mantis Corp. agenda to control in an easier way. In all, they are usually left alone by the Forces. Raidon III was destroyed many years ago. No one is sure what happened, as only the rare few still remain alive. ...Then there's Raidon II. This is where you live. As a result of the bribery and general bigotry, Mantis Corp. Forces tend to work in these areas. Offcially, they are not the law. It is only because of their size that people respect the rules they put in place. So long as you abide these rules, they will leave you alone. Other than Levis, the small, hollow Sun; not much is known about the Galaxy outside of the Raidon System to the residents. Many aspire to have their own ship, but even those of Raidon I struggle to keep up with prices of fuel, ammunition and regular maintenance. I You play as Tag, a man-for-hire with a shady past. | 2011-08-12 01:23:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
Wow, I should have really been reading this, this looks really awesome! I'd like to help, If you need it. | 2011-08-13 03:32:00 Author: SPARTANDUDE924 Posts: 285 |
Wow, I should have really been reading this, this looks really awesome! I'd like to help, If you need it. Chances are, you probably can help with the large amount of scenery required to make it good. (As each will requie some sort of splitting - I'm planning on semi-destructable enviroment) I've also added the controls in the OP. After being given a task, you'll have to option of how to go about it. I enjoy fredom in games, so its nice to have it added. Equipment will be things such as Thermal Vision ect... ...But what to do for L2? | 2011-08-13 17:19:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
Ok, here's some pictures from the demonstration: http://i8.lbp.me/img/ft/828485aa0723ddef88c02593cff618286db85277.jpg http://ib.lbp.me/img/ft/93bded2012f38229d38392b1ee5243a7d916f4b1.jpg http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/ce30f1acf9aaf2444017c35db012fb397dfec1eb.jpg And the new Weapon Silhouettes (For the HUD) DB11 (Hand gun): http://ie.lbp.me/img/ft/16eaf1722ed9b7bf19ffee2dddcd3066b79d3318.jpg Vel-K (Machine gun): http://i7.lbp.me/img/ft/7f7d1111a49cccc2621745dc6059ffd8bdbe8013.jpg Optum (Enemies machine gun): http://i1.lbp.me/img/ft/aa1123a2064fd835a72566a386480270f4e0c876.jpg Reaper (Laser cannon): http://i4.lbp.me/img/ft/d4499d149ac30352b3a1235602327d4c5dd524fa.jpg | 2011-08-18 17:31:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
Did you say soul? Because http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/230/5/8/i_have_your_soul_by_tnsvt-d46zpsl.jpg On-topic, the screenshots look amazing, and I'll no doubt check out the finished series! Good luck! Ps: I drew that pic | 2011-08-18 20:11:00 Author: TNSv Posts: 302 |
Very nice picture! Want to know a secret? At the current moment, the only reason it's called SOUL is so I can use an O (And 4 letters are common). Plot wise, I'll come up with a reason later... | 2011-08-18 22:29:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
Just an update. For one, the awareness meter has been removed. It was getting too complex arranging every 'law', it took up quite a bit of thermo and... Well, the levels plot (Missions ect...) didn't have much use for it. Now, quick question... Do I make my own original character, who is a preset person, or: http://i9.lbp.me/img/ft/059d4206d86ac7100b134e134b49244796aa2951.jpg Do I go the way of Mass Effect, where you name and give the option of Gender and ethnicity ( = 8 characters). First you'll choose Gender, then either Caucasian, African-American, Asian or Hispanic. It easy to organise; and seeing as emmiters don't add thermo until emitted. Plus it can all be arranged in a point-transfer (Thank you Compher) It's just a question of do I want a character like Commander Shepard, or Nathan Drake...? | 2011-09-03 18:39:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
only just discovered this thread, I like the idea for this though. Great job so far. Look forward to seeing more | 2011-09-04 06:11:00 Author: Unknown User |
These screens look great, sound an original concept too If there's heavy characterization involved or if it's a character-driven story then maybe the "Nathan Drake" is the better option. If you want a blank character people can imprint their own ideals of protagonism on and define by getting to choose between different play styles, then go with the Shepard approach | 2011-09-04 20:48:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |
Woah, looks awesome, only thing is.. it all looks like Prey 2. The set-up is almost exact (the hunted, wanted and neutral), the weapon HUD are the same and the Man-for-hire is also the same. I'm not complaining, because Prey 2 looks insane but i dont want to see people spam your level with "this looks like Prey 2, your bad" or other. The customisation looks very good, and i thin a more nathan Drake approach may be more popular, especially to people that havent played Mass Effect (It came out on PS3 a few months back) because more people will have played it. For the controls, maybe use the directional keys for items such as: UP- Machine Gun Down-Hand Gun Left-Grenade Right- Equipment Of course, depending on what you pick up, the machine gun can be a laser gun or grenade launcher or whatever and the equipment be different also. hope this helps, im just trying to give you some advice Thanks | 2011-09-05 11:08:00 Author: TheLittleSoAndSo Posts: 181 |
I've not seen much of Prey 2... ? Anyway, the D-Pad is equipment. Things such like night-vision and mines. When I say 'Drake or Shepard', what I mean is how the character is remembered. A certain person that people will come to enjoy and respect; Or a Shepard type, A person who isn't preset, but no matter what choice is made, has a common background. And all advice is useful, so Thank you. | 2011-09-05 17:20:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
Prey 2 is due out quite soon, so i think it could clash with your level, which is what i was so worried about. Its heartbreaking to make a level youve spent ages creating, then to have it abused for something it isnt | 2011-09-06 07:15:00 Author: TheLittleSoAndSo Posts: 181 |

Looks Interesting, How do you plan to Continue game progress. Saving the game and such. o3o | 2012-09-02 04:15:00 Author: Unknown User |
The plan is a linear story, so save games won't necessarily be an issue. However, if I were to implement it, it wouldn't be so hard. | 2012-09-10 21:49:00 Author: Nurolight Posts: 918 |
