Checkpoint Help???

I have a level that is split into to sides. On eat side i have check points and if you die i need you to spawn on your side. My problem is when a player dies they spawn at some random check point and it's different everytime. I have see a level where you grab either right or left and that determines what check point you spawn out of, you haven't even activated it yet... which is cool... But how do you do that? Possible solution is have sackbots with colour-coordinated follower setups. When a sackbot dies an inverted tag is triggered which spawns a sackbot of that colour. Depending on the colour the individual player will be assigned to that sackbot.
