I'm working on a level that is only up to the 3rd bar on the thermo. yet every time I return to pod from it, or switch to play mode, it freezes. of course though, I can bypass it by saving the level mid-create, so I at least don't lose any work. but it still almost always freezes. I started noticing these problems mysteriously just after update 1.04. any ideas?

Well if you have too much logic in one area then it may freeze. I tried building a top-down shooter level but the logic on the guns, weapon cycling, weapon pickups, ammo pickups was too much for the level. I would try making a connection and it would go "blip" blip" and then when I actually tried connecting the wire might go to something else entirely. My advice. Save your level to two spots on your moon and then on one of them try to make it simpler. You might have to sacrifice some logic.
