Neptunia

Archive: 24 posts

Hello,

I have finally completed my first ever LBP2 level. My second level altogether. It is Neptunia.

Neptunia is a story based adventure with some simple puzzles as well as obstacles to overcome. There are cut scenes in this game, but they are needed for the story. There are 3 different endings. Two of the three endings, you can choose at the end of the game. If you get a Perfect Score, you will receive a special third ending.

There are no Score Bubbles, just points given for Secrets, Treasures, and Completing Tasks.
In order to achieve the Perfect Score, you must complete all tasks and find all of the secrets and of course not die.

The puzzles are simplistic in nature and are not hard and the solutions are obvious with clues given. However, if you become stumped on the trickier ones, there is an in game solution for them.

Average playing time is around 30 minutes, just to let you know.

Due to an issue that one player encountered in this level about friends could not follow link, I am now suggesting only 1 player for this game. Another player said it worked fine. I tested it with a Guest and it worked fine, but another player said they could not follow link. So, I don't know and I'll leave it up to you if you want to take a risk with more than one player.

Also, FYI, some random in game bug may show up while you are playing. I've come across it a couple of times. For some reason, the Score givers will not register points. It'll blip, but no score will be given after the task. This does not happen often. Chances are it probably will not happen to you. This is not my doing. It is something in the game itself.

Just want to let you know about these two things in case you are trying for the Perfect Score or plan to play with friends. They are beyond my control.

I am participating in F4F. I welcome all criticism as long as it is sensible. If you find any bugs or gameplay issues, please let me know.

Hello there,

I've just played this level and liked it. The visuals are clean, they sure can be improved but it feel good overall, the puzzles are nice, and platforming sequences are fun. Nothing is really too difficult or too easy, the difficulty is well balanced.

On the negative side, i'll note that the end is kind of slow, with the last puzzle, where you have to go to the 4 place to enter the code. I also have a small issue with the puzzle where you have to use the grabinators. I did understand where I had to put the blocs from a left/right point of view, but the arrow up/down order was not clear. I maybe miss a hint.

Overall good level, some issue with the rythm of the level, but for a first LBP2 level and a second level it's quite good !

Keep up the good jpb.
If you have the time to return F4F, please look at my BLOCKS level. Thanks !

Well u know I liked the lvl already, but something just occurred to me, with the grabinator puzzle, is there a way to tell which is the right way up. I didn't end up throwing the blocks around but I just realised if I did, would I still know which is the right way up after they tumbled around?2011-07-21 20:38:00

@Slurm

Thank you for playing and the feedback. As for the decorations, I do not think they need improving. That is the level's design.

Agreed on the final puzzle, when I designed that, I realized it is long, but I cannot control that now. I cannot speed up the platforms because Sackboy will not jump on to them.

As for the Grabinator puzzle, the clue is all in the statue. I thought it would be obvious plus there are a few other clues around the level before you get there. I guess everybody has a different perspective when playing. I'll continue to listen to feedback on this. If it becomes a problem, I'll see what I can do.

I'll play your Blocks level later on.

@Masseyf

Again, thank you for playing.

To answer your question: if you tumble around the blocks and they are facing the wrong direction, they will automatically go back to the original position when Sackboy picks them back up. So, no issue will happen in that scenario. Oh, and if you happen to scoot one underneath the Red Hologram and it is on the wrong side, the puzzle will not work. Each piece must be on the correct side, so be sure to pick it back up if it tumbles.

I'll edit this post when I play the level with my review.

For the F4F, can you do my Wooden Works level in my sig please?

EDIT:
I've just played the level and I liked a lot!
The platforming seemed just something off to the side but the puzzles were the real focus in this level.

The Platforming wasn't exactly unique but it was fun at some point when I'm trying to avoid getting killed by spikes and more spikes
The Puzzles in the level were very unique and anyone was able to finish them. But at some points during the level I found my self quite bored, so I might maybe suggest for you to put on a new track of music?

Platforming: 3/5
Puzzles: 4/5
Originality: 4/5

Well, thanks for sharing your level with the community and I wish you best of luck for you as an creator

Oh and I hope you get around to play my Wooden Works level in my sig too

@Crazed Creator

Thank you for the feedback. Indeed this is a puzzle based game. That is why I did not put Platformer in the title or description. I know the last part is long and can become boring. I already designed the part and realized that. There's nothing I can do about that now without tearing the whole part down and revamping it. As for the change in music, I picked Victoria's theme as the main theme because it seemed to fit well. I'll experiment with others to see if it is feasible to put them in.

Hey Great level. I really enjoyed the puzzles and greek style of the level, besides of some great filming on the level. Good work Garak101! 2011-07-26 01:11:00

Thanks for the feedback of Cybernetic Adventures Epsilon in the reviews. This is a good level.

VISUALS:
The level design has good material choices, and the stickers are well put. Some hologram effects are interesting as well. I think you need add more details to this level, but some good gameplay seems to make it up.

SOUND:
Good variety of musics.

GAMEPLAY:
The level has good platforming obstacles, and it has great puzzles to solve. This level also features the hidden treasures which I found almost all of them. I haven't encounter any bugs, so the level is fine.

OVERALL:
An interesting level that will have players solve puzzles. A yay.

Just played this level earlier today and decided to give a review on it!

Puzzles: The puzzles were varied and unique although sometimes they seemed to become repetitive. I enjoyed the first one with the levers to match the Neptunia logo, although the second set of "matching" puzzles didn't seem to fit (as far as the images go. I'm talking about the | > logos just because the pitchforks fit with the level while these seemed out of place. Overall though, some solid puzzles to solve that weren't too difficult and required memory.

Music: The music fit for the most part, although I wonder if there might be a better track out there that isn't so...ominous sounding? Not a big deal at all.

Length: This level was more than adequate length, almost too long I'd say just because that last part does get lengthy (I had to run before I could finish it so I'll have to come back ) although you did mention that before. Also, not a big deal at all.

Overall: I'd give this level 8/10 stars, with the few things mentioned above downgrading it a bit. But regardless, this was a great puzzle level that I enjoyed playing! Yay!

EDIT: Plus your level fits with my name haha

There is one description that matches your level perfectly and that is: codes, lots and lots of codes. You sure do like symbols and codes, well, the gods like symbols and codes a lot. Especially Neptune, who you pictured pretty well. Though it might have used a little detail, I thought your level looked nice and clean. Until the end of the level, I breezed along pretty smoothly. The final challenge, however epic, did become a little tedious after a while.

Furthermore, I do not understand why this game is appointed as a platformer, because it really isn?t. It's more of a puzzle game. I really do not want to disappoint you, but I?m going to get honest with you I have to say that the puzzles kind of lacked originality and became repetitive after a while. The same goes for the hazards, which were kind of tedious and misplaced (especially the turning spike plates).

The first time you encounter those spikes, sure, they?re a pain, but then you move on. You do encounter them multiple times , however, and to me that seems like a cheap way to continue the level. Another thing is that the in and out moving spike rollers (which did look kinda cool and were a lot less tedious) only showed up once, in contrast to the other hazards. The puzzles themselves involved a lot of flashy effects, but were kind of dull in their essence. I hope the real kingdom of the gods is not this repetitive.

Don?t get me wrong. I can see you spent a lot of time into this level and I appreciate that. I yay this kind of effort, but in my opinion it's not the best thing out there. We have to be a little realistic, so here you go.

If you have the time I?d like you to invite to play and give feedback on my level Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield:

Okay - been a long time since leaving any kind of feedback - but I figured I would start here.

Your level was indeed epic and had incredible length to it with good dialogue to boot. The puzzles to me were not necessarily challenging and what I would call a puzzler, but it held my attention and gave me something to do and that in its own right, was entertaining and I enjoyed the effects it brought after. Great use of the holographics!

I do believe the presentation of the level was the only weak point and from reading the other reviews, I can see others agree. Not to say that you put something together that is ugly, because it certainly is not!! However, the entire level is made up of mostly harsh angles and it appeared that the use of the corner editing tool was nearly absent. There was also so many other occasions that the level could be spiced up with stickers/decorations (to give it a more three dimensional feel) and or using the thin layers. Otherwise, it feels like your just looking into a box. If this was in the original LBP 1 days, I would still give it 4 stars because I certainly enjoyed it.

Multiplayer - IT WORKS!! No hang up of any kind, no problem with any cameras. It worked very well and there was 3 of us. So rest assured it works fine, it was put together very well.

Great job, I certainly would love to play more of your levels as they become released.

@AtlanteanNomad7

Thank you for your feedback. Yes, the puzzles may have seemed repetitive, but to me they each had their own purpose. I am new to creating puzzles and I made them simple to the average player.

@JusinArt

Thank you for your feedback. Design is my weakpoint. I'll continue to improve this as a continue to create.

@DoodVogletje

Thanks for the feedback. Based on it, I got the impression my level did not live up to your standards. Oh well, can't please everyone.

As for the issues you addressed:

(1) The final Ascension. Yes, when I created that I knew it dragged. It is too late to change that. Although I have thought of a way to speed up the bridges and still have Sackboy land on the platforms. I may implement this.

(2) In my description, it does not state it is a platformer. A player tagged it in the game.

(3) Puzzles lacked originality and were repetitive. Maybe to you, but not to me. Every puzzle was different in its own aspect. I am not an expert at creating mind boggling puzzles and this was my first attempt at creating them. I spent alot of time coming up with the ideas and getting them to work right so they are original to me albeit simple. Also, I made it so that an average person can solve them.

(4) Traps were tedious and misplaced. Had to add gameplay elements. Most traps only show up twice at most. I've played over 700 levels and I've seen plenty of repetitive traps. Misplaced...maybe to you, but not to me.

(5) I never claimed this was a milestone level as I am not an expert and am still learning. It took me 100+ hours and over a course of 7 months to complete this. Yeah, there are flaws, but no one is perfect. I'll live and learn.

Thanks again for your feedback and I'll use this for improving.

@John82wa

Thank you for your feedback.

As for the puzzles, it is my first time doing this. I made them simple to the average person. I tagged puzzler because it focuses on them albeit simple. As for presentation, this is my weakness. At the time I was designing this, I thought the patterns and designs were appropriate. I tried to spice things up and it did not look right. I'd rather have a simply decorated level than one that is overdecorated as I have seen. Plus, my thermos is near max. I wanted to get in all of the level and gameplay before design. As for the design, I made it flat and square like because it is a temple setting. Rocky, crooked textures did not seem right for this level. As for the corner editor, I used it many times. Maybe it does not show, but I did.
And thank you for the feedback regarding multiplayer, it pleases me to know that. I'll keep my disclaimer the way it is....just in case.

Thanks again for the feedback and I'll use this for improving.

Super level! I need to try it again though. In the puzzle with the grabinator, I tossed one of the blocks by mistake and it got stuck between the glass triangle and the place where it started. Shortly after that the block was destroyed and I could not continue. Bummer! Next time I have the time I will try playing it again. When you get the chance, could you try my level? How did that happen?
I've tested that part repeatedly and it got stuck, but I was able to toss it out to an open area. It never destroyed a block. Anyways, based on your feedback, I have corrected the problem so it should not happen again.

Thanks for the heads up on the matter.

I really liked the gameplay in this level. It actually reminded me of a level I played in the LBP GOTY edition a while back. The visuals were pretty nice, but I think it truly shines through its gameplay. You've done a great job! 2011-08-02 03:06:00

Well, I'm back with my feedback. Great job with the level man! I had a great time playing this.

It pretty much seems like you know what you're doing here for the most part. The story was very interesting and I felt pretty motivated to get to the end of the level to see what was going to happen. The gameplay elements in here were great and I saw some stuff that i haven't seen it quite a while! It felt very new and fresh. The puzzles were nice too, although a little tough at some times, they were passable. I had to "cheat" and use that answer button once or twice, but thats just me. The visuals were nice, you maybe could have done a bit more corner editing on the overall environment, but for now its just fine. The only thing I wasn't too crazy about were the large number of cutscenes. Other than that tiny little complaint, you have a great level here! Keep up the good work!

If youre still doing F4F, I would appreciate it if you could give me some feedback on my level "Wooden Chaos". The link is down in my Sig.Thanks for the great level!

I queued this up yesterday and ran through it, and it's really good for a first level! I liked the design of the level, and since I'm a fan of tiered levels (go here, do that, hit the next floor with the next big room) I didn't mind the progression, and the occasional secret placed throughout the level made it all the more interesting (the treasure chest behind the waterfall was probably my favorite one). I really liked the traps, too--nothing overly elaborate, but still fitting in with the theme.

I somehow got stuck in the little space behind the blue buttons puzzle where you had to jump on the four buttons and create the right order of symbols. I think when I walked off of a button, it made me do an automatic layer shift and I ended up stuck behind one of the walls. Kinda weird, but only happened once.

Outside of that minor issue, I really liked the level. I would've gotten the perfect ending on my first shot, but I messed up on a jump early on and met a pointy end. Drat! But I'm going to try again for it! And I don't know if you played the games, but the entire level had a sort of "Golden Sun" feel to it, in regards to the puzzles, atmosphere, ancient god giving hints and putting you up to trials. I really liked that.

I thought it was great. I usually review fairly harshly, so I thought I'd say that beforehand.

Puzzles:
- Simple, easy to know what to do
- Repetitive
- Perhaps an optional 'super' challenge
- More! (and much more challenging, though others may disagree?)

Visuals:
- Great job on making it seem like some sunken temple/shrine
- I would have liked to see overall stronger visuals
- At the start, when underwater, it was a fairly bland
- Nice water effects (taps)
- Well designed traps, but could be changed to appear more threatening (it is supposed to be a challenge made by the gods?)
- Grass (?) cutouts could be replaced by decorations, or just improved/varied

Sounds
- Sound effects throughout, used effectively
- Perhaps some more music tracks, I got tired of hearing the same song by the time I was nearing the 'Ascension' puzzle
- 'Activation' sound (the water pulse?) could either be made more complex, or use another sound for certain things since it got repetitive

I liked how there were some hidden treasures.
I especially liked the frequent checkpoints. Even though there were no challenging sections, I always hate getting setback due to too few checkpoints.

If you ever expand on this, I suggest:
- Using water as an obstacle/trap
- Using water to solve puzzles

F4F in sig.

@ShamgarBlade

Thank you for taking the time to play and leaving feedback on my level. Glad you liked it. About that GOTY level, I have the game, I am curious. I'm going to see if I can find it.

@eagerneph

Thank you for taking the time to play and leaving feedback on my level. Some people think the puzzles are too simple, some do not. I tried to make them balanced for the average person. About the cutscenes, yes there are a lot of them, but they were needed for the story. That's why I mentioned it in the description...to let people know.

@Mysteltain

Thank you for taking the time to play and leaving feedback on my level. I don't know how you got trapped. It sounds like a layer shift, which happens to me often on levels. As for Golden Sun, I never played the games, but I am intrigued that it reminds you of it. If you do try it again, I hope you can achieve the Perfect Score. I wish the scores were up so I know if anybody has done it.

@SSTAGG1

Thank you for taking the time to play and leaving feedback on my level. About the puzzles, they are simple and easy (for puzzle experts), but I wanted to make it balanced for the average person. Same for the obstacles, I didn't want to make it too hard so it can be Aced. About the grass, I used that to prevent Sackboy from falling down the layers (although there is a lethal way to do that and it is implemented, I did not want any unexpected deaths to occur).

Thank you for your advice. I'll keep it mind in case I decide to expand.

For F4F, all of your levels are queued, if I have not played them yet. I'll return feedback when I can.

Something I forgot to add. The rain in the beginning looks very basic. I suggest changing it to actual water projectiles. If for some reason that is not an option, then adjust the emitters so that the rain drops don't stack on the water (or make the drops metal so they pass through).

Water projectiles would be the best option.

Thanks for the advice. I have tried the water, it did not look right. I'll look into it when I get some time and see if I can improve it.

On a side note:

Also, I have edited the description because of a couple of encounters that are beyond my control. So if you play this level, make sure you read the entire description. Thank you and sorry about the inconvenience that it might cause.

I've just played it and I think it was cool. It became a bit annoyin after a while because it's repetitive. I didn't like the lion head decorations everywhere but I liked the idea of having challenges.2011-08-16 22:00:00
