Help with Publishing LBP1 levels in LBP2

Archive: 14 posts

I recently bought a 2nd-hand game of LBP2 and tested out my levels in LBP1. I found out that it contained some glitches that weren't present if you were playing from LBP1. There were also some graphical hiccups here and there that made the game look buggy.

I wanted to edit it right away(in LBP2 of course) but I encountered numerous amount of tutorials, and so I think I'll finish those in the weekend.

Now my main problem is what happens to my LBP1 levels if I edit them in LBP2 and publish it there. Will my newly published level be still playable for LBP1 users? And if they can still play it, will they glitch because I edited it in LBP2? Now if my newly re-edited and re-published levels aren't playable in LBP1, that would be a problem because I have some friends who only have the first game.

Anyone know a thing or two about this? Thanks for your time.

If you edit a level in LBP2 it won't be playable in LBP1. All of the graphical changes are from the new LBP2 graphic engine.2011-07-20 00:15:00

Oh, that's unfortunate. Maybe I'll just edit it when my friends from LBP1 played it, or I could just edit it in LBP1 and hope that it fixes some of the bugs on LBP2.2011-07-20 01:42:00

You could make a copy of it and do some editing on the copy only to see how it turns out, may or may not be worth your while depending on what the glitches are2011-07-20 04:30:00

Yeah i've been trying that out, but to no avail as it is cumbersome to edit it in LBP1 and then test it out on 2.2011-07-20 05:27:00

You could try fixing it on your LBP2 moon (without using any LBP2 tools), writing down what you did and then repeating it in LBP1.2011-07-20 10:03:00

Rogar, that is a very good idea. I'll try that right away, thank you very much.2011-07-20 13:43:00

Thank you very much Rogar, as this method maid the process alot faster and now I finally fixed it.

It is now completely beatable when playing from LBP2.

For anyone willing to try it (and I'd really appreciate it), here it is: Sinner's Redemption (http://lbp.me/v/3hcswv)

Actually, this dovetails abit with something i was wondering...so if i might make a minor thread-jack?

i had LBP1, and then sold it when 2 came out...of course when i started 2 my profile was updated and all that rotter, but...

i've got a few LBP1 levels that i'd kind of like to edit and republish just in LBP1 (so i don't waste my 20level limit in 2 [not that i'm likely to get anywhere near that realistically, mind]...also we never worked through everything on my wife's account, and she's a bit disappointed she never got the fry pan (seeing as one of her titles is the Queen of Eggs).

So if i've already done the starting LBP2 profile update, then i go back and make profile changes in LBP1...and then go into LBP2 again, does it update again smoothly, or does it go and screw anything up.

Inquiring minds wanna know.

From my brief experience of having LBP2, I don't think the profile update screws anything up as I kept doing this when I was going back and forth with LBP1 and LBP2. When it updates every time I start up LBP2, the only thing it updates for me are the stuff I got from LBP1, not the levels that are on the moon. So personally, from less than a week of experience testing out LBP2, it was a safe process.2011-07-20 16:45:00

IIRC you can export levels to your harddrive individually in LBP1 and then import them into LBP2. Of course it's always wise to make a back up of your LBP2 profile before you do these kind of things.

Back on topic: Good to hear my suggestion is workable, I may have to do something like this myself in the near future. Out of curiosity: what broke and how did you fix it?

Actually, nothing broke when I was playing on LBP2. The problem was the some things that were supposed to dissolve, did not which made it impossible to trigger the next set of events. It was in the boss part of my level that when you beat him, he dissolves alongside a set of other stuff which activates the next event. I kept going back and forth to test out what kind of material will dissolve with the boss. And I finally found a different solution by placing a magnetic switch on the platform your standing on in that level, and a magnetic sensor on the boss itself. In this manner, when the boss dissolves, I do not need to dissolve other materials. The switch will simply activate when the boss is gone.

Actually in retrospect, I should have just gone with that framework instead of making unstable network of dissolve material.

Ah, might be a timing issue then. The boss disappearing before the signal coming from the boss could reach the external dissolve.2011-07-21 09:40:00

Yeah I guess it was about the timing.

Made another update on my level and now most of the glitches are gone when playing from LBP2. The part where it randomly makes thing invisible in LBP2, made a complete overhaul of that section and that no longer happens (playtested alot and so far no random bugs).

Appreciate it if you anyone could test it from LBP2 to actually know if it works for you guys.
