How to make a moving water snake?

Archive: 12 posts

I've been trying to get rubber snake object to move underwater without imploding on itself, but to no avail. I need to figure out how to make it move left to right while looking realistic (as a snake would move underwater) and keep it from spazzing out and destroying itself. I suck with logic, but what I had tried so far was attaching a piston to a box, and attaching the snake to the box with a string. It looks semi-alright, but when the box moves so far and begins to pull the string, the snake starts wiggling wildly and eventually gets destroyed. I want it to pull smoothly and without the wiggly whatnot. Can anyone help me out? Basically I just need a mechanism that will move my rubber snake left to right underwater (that doesn't look stiff!) without destroying it. All responses appreciated. :~)2011-07-19 23:36:00

Add a mover with the speed you want then just change the snakes movement.2011-07-19 23:38:00

Can you elaborate? I'm new to LBP2 so the movers and microchips etc are sorta confusing for me.2011-07-19 23:57:00

Just slap it down and tweak the speed. The microchips just crush everything down to one point so your objects aren't so crowded.2011-07-20 00:11:00

Alright, the problem seems to be (well there's two..) that 1. the snake floats, and 2. whenever I place a sensor on the snake, it 'drifts' off and around the snake, and won't stay put. I'm nearly certain it drifts because the snake is rubber, and when it drifts, the mover itself moves instead of the snake. Is there any way to make the snake heavy enough to stay put in the water and to keep the sensors in place? I tried gluing a heavy piece of metal onto the snake and placed the mover on that, but he just bobs in the water and lulls his head around like an idiot. I think using movers isn't going to work on this thing. I need another way of making it move around. 2011-07-20 00:39:00

The material tweaker has a bouancy setting
How is the mover moving and not the snake? Are you sure you put the mover on the snake?

I don't know what help this might be, but...

try following evolution, and starting with a regular land snake.

OP: I have had similar problems with a large squid monster in LBP1. Try to go through all the in-game tutorials, particularly the logic tutorials, to learn a bit more about this new LBP2 feature. It will help you a lot.

I've made fish in the past that swim around no problem. Attach the object gravity tweaker (I think that's what it's called) to the snake or a circuit board on the snake. Make sure it's the pink object gravity tweaker and not the blue world gravity tweaker. Set it to zero gravity and it should no longer be effected by the water. As previously said, use a mover to get it moving.2011-07-20 10:09:00

Thanks for the suggestions, but I can't seem to attach any sensors onto the **** thing. If you don't believe me, go try yourself. The sensors 'drift' off and start spazzing out. Because of this I can't make it move or put an anti-gravity sensor on it. I think this glitch is unique to the snake though, doesnt seem to happen to the rubbery fish I tried it on.2011-07-20 14:38:00

Can you glue the snake to a piece of Holo, and the put your sensors on that?
