Lap Timer

Archive: 11 posts

Does anyone know if it's possible to create a lap timer (idealy with on-screen display) for a top down racing game? I'd like to create a time trial mode in the one I'm making. I've seen this done using race gates but as the game perspective is top-down and race gates are designed to be used side-on, this looks a bit odd.2011-07-19 16:59:00

The race gates have inputs so you can activate the remotely.2011-07-19 18:04:00

You could also put little tiny holograms(invisible) with certain tags set also with destroyer. So everytime you do a lap, it will destroy itself and tell you your on lap 2,3, etc.2011-07-19 22:39:00

Why not use a selector?

With your help I've published my time trial race level 'Little Big Monaco Grand Prix: Hot Lap'.

Any feedback would be welcomed.

They seem to work for me. In what way do they not work? I'll try and sort it.2011-07-23 18:17:00

They just cut out at the beginning and IDK if I wasn't pressing the right button but the car didn't start either.

The most accurate lap timer you could make using selectors where each output port wires to the subsequent input port would be able to distinguish competitors 0.033 seconds apart or more, or lap times accurate to 1/30th of a second.2011-07-24 02:10:00

This made me realise I'd completely forgotten to include any instructions on how to control the darn things. I've updated the level now. Thanks for the input.

This sounds interesting although I'm not sure how this would translate to the scoreboard at the end of the race as it is points based rather than time based.
