Silent Hill: Thanatos

Archive: 27 posts

Edited as of 12/12/2011

All four parts of the series, with three different endings, were recently posted. Seeing as how this thread was created before the start of the third part, and my edits to the first levels, I'm redoing this post.

I'm bad at summaries, but this is primarily my attempt at a series of levels loosely based off of Silent Hill 1 - 3, and containing my own storyline.

http://lbp.me/v/39dp6v

Changes made to the first two levels:
- Lots of small modifications were made so that more objects and walls look better overall.
-Rooftop area was changed heavily and should be working much better now.
-More sections were added to the hosital.

If there are any suggestions about how to further imrove the levels, or any bugs that show up, please let me know. : 3

I love the Silent Hill series! I'll be sure to check this out later!

I'm a little sad this isn't a LBP2 level because I've got several songs you could use.

I thought it was a pretty nice level but there were alot of problems. It had a nice feel to it but I couldnt get the Pyramid Head to follow me. Sooo I couldnt finish the level, your backround could've used a bit more detail and the floors a little more squared up. The sounds were great and the monsters again, a bit more detail. I had a problem getting up the stairs too they felt a bit choppy. Anyway 3/5 and please feel free to give my level "The Hospital" a try sometime and leave your feedback thanks 2011-07-20 00:41:00

I tweaked Pyramid Head multiple times, and the version used is the most reliable that I could get when I was testing it. Which floors do you mean? Outside or inside? The outside ones are meant to be uneven...

I had a small problem with the stairs because I had a friend use the grid to make them "neater." Since the material he used was hard to see I added some light. Any suggestions on how to make the stairs work better?

Well... what I do is square up the stairs using small grid and make them pretty big. then use the corner editing tool to give them a bit more of a shaggy wrecked look.

I went in to check the stairs and one of the reasons that it may be a problem is that a chunk of unconnected steps fell down during constrcution and blended in with the rest. Other than that I'm trying to fix the monsters to look better. Thanks for the suggestions!

I tried out the level and it was pretty decent. I especially liked the part where the world transforms to the "alternate" world.
As for some suggestions, I would like to point out that some more decorations and the use of corner edit tool might help the overall atmosphere of your level.

If you got the time, would you mind giving feedback on my level?? It's also recently published and always looking for ways to improve.
Here it is: Sinner's Redemption (http://lbp.me/v/3hcswv)
Thanks for your time.

Oh yeah, I saw that. It's pretty much an exact copy of MonkeyButler's level except for some scenery changes.
= /
I wouldn't quite call it "your version."

In what way doesn't he follow? Falling onto his helmet/sword? Arm breaking off and sword keeping him from moving? If you just run ahead and he doesn't follow, it's because of the awareness radius, which can be fixed by moving back a little.

His arm or something breaks off and nothing happens :/

At the cutscene camera do you keep running or pause momentarily untill he hits the roof? I think that the sword and winch are pushing against the dissolve wall as it tries to follow you. Try pausing at the sensor switch?

First, a couple of notes: I have only played the beginning of Silent Hill 1, and none of the following games. However, I aware of the general story of the franchise. Secondly, I played this level on LBP1.

One of the hospital doors in the beginning has a white LED light, instead of red, like the others. Don't know if this was intentional.

The pyramid guy wouldn't chase me. He would only follow me if I walked up close to his blade.

Love the transition in the basement to the fiery aspect.

Does well with the theme, but if I would give it one big criticism, it's that it wasn't very challenging. I would like to see a few more enemies of obstacles.

If you would like to return the feedback, check out my Terminator: Future Wars (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=59882-Terminator-Future-Wars)

The white door light was intentional. It's also the only door during that part which has someone screaming on the other side. I've had trouble with Pyramid Head from the start, so I will keep tweaking it. I had other comments about difficulty, and I was trying to do make it have more atmosphere than difficulty.
I'm trying to make each part harder than the last.

I really liked the atmosphere! You're obviously a master at creating atmospheres. I especially like the contrasts between the two "worlds". I think you manage to simulate the creepy feeling in the Silent Hill games and movies. And you're really creative on the monsters and enemy parts. I played both part one and two, liked them both and looking forward to the third one.

I would however recommend it if you made a little less space and walking, and more "action". I don't think that would disbenefit your atmosphere either. You can use score bubbles to add more action, and in the machinery realm, there's plenty of machinery thingies like windmills and traps from the ceiling you can implement in your level.

And maybe have some more structure in your levels. Maybe make the first one of part three to be exclusively in the process of entering Silent Hill, the second one to be in "machinery realm" and the third one to be day in Silent Hill maybe. Foggy and maybe snowing. If that's possible in LBP. But don't make it more than three chapters. Maybe you could use that nice transition of yours in the end of the first chapter, with the sackboy thinking something about where am I, what's this, and so on. Then each mood would be more established, IMO.

Since you're making so much nice items, you can add some prize bubbles as well, to share your creations if you want. I would for one be glad to have my hands on one of those armless thingies. And if you make a rusty windmill-like contraption to travel around in the underground, you can put one of those inside a bubble too. It really adds to the experience of playing a real level, if you know what I'm saying.

Enjoyed playing! Hope you will get something out of my comment.

The third part was just published, along with the addition of its key to the end of part 2. I'm not sure, but if I add a key to part 2, do I need to republish it and add that key to part 1, followed by republishing part 1? I did it that way. Part 3 also has the first thing I've made resembling a boss, so any feedback on it would be great.2011-08-07 05:52:00
