A compromise with sackbots and grapple guns/water

So, okay, I understand that the grapple gun and swimming controls are too complicated for the Sackbot AI. That's fine.

What would really be nice, though, is if they could use grapple guns and go underwater on the condition that they have an active controllinator in their circuitboard. Sometimes you want to make the player control a sackbot to go through the level instead of playing it directly. Maybe you want them to have a double jump, or just want them to be forced to wear a costume that suits the aesthetic of your level. There's a lot of reasons for it. In those instances, it really stinks that you're effectively forbidden from using water or grappling hooks in your level. If the controlinator ever shuts off, then they instantly lose the grapple gun if they're holding it and instantly die if they're in water.

You could probably even make your own rudimentary swimming AI using the inputs of a controlinator, if you really wanted to.

Failing that, I'd really like if sackbots did SOMETHING in water other than instantly die. Maybe instead they could just sink to the bottom, and control like they always do except for moving more slowly. That would at least be useful for, say, creating enemies in a water level.

The reasoning behind restricting water and the grapple gun for sackbots is totally reasonable and justified! It just seems like there might be room for a little middle ground there instead of making them flat-out incompatible.

Even just having them drown would be an improvement!

Water-proof sackbots fix that problem quite nicely. There is this level where it fills up with with water while the sackbot jumps. At the end the water-proof bot is your prize. 2011-07-18 23:55:00

If I recall correctly, the sackbot doesn't use the swimming animations though. It just traverses the water with normal speed/animations as if it didn't exist.

I just use the jelly material, stickered blue or whatever, and holo, impact sensors, rocket rotator, etc, it makes the sackbot, for the most part, look like it's swimming.....will make a giveaway if people are interested.2011-07-20 00:11:00
