Fonts

Hi Everyone

I'm at a point in my level where I needed some fonts. I found fellow sack people very generous in placing fonts in there levels.
the problem is, once I open them up in create mode, there strung together with a red dashed line. How do I separate them for use?

place it 26 times & put destroyers on every letter except one, in the set like

ABC
ABC
ABC

underline means destroyer, idk if there's an easier way but that's how I do it....

He could just get someone to go into his moon and make that fonts or just make his own... fonts are actually pretty easy to make...

I stencil out the font object by placing it in a big block of metal. then make a cardboard block and stencil out the letters that way. always works for me. And its quick!2011-07-18 05:43:00

And in case the game throws up an error about a too complicated shape (which it often will if your font is detailed or numerous): instead of using one big block of metal, switch on grid and create several smaller blocks stuck together; the complexity when pasting the font object into that will be spread across those blocks. Then remove the original font, select all the blocks and stencil that into a big block of another material.

Always works.

I use the stencil method too but didn't dawn on me to use several blocks together to avoid the "too complex" warning. thanks. Also, if you capture the font so that it's in "my objects" you can move one letter at a time instead of the whole 26. I wish MM would fix this and put it the way it was in LBP1.2011-07-18 16:47:00

Instead of making a separate thread for this I'll just post it here. Any body know any good font levels? Because it seems that every time I search I end up on a level with some terribly made font. Any suggestions are appreciated.2011-07-18 17:40:00

arbiekko made a level with each letter as a separate prize http://lbp.me/v/xnrffc2011-07-18 19:40:00

Lite_Sleeper's (http://lbp.me/u/Lite_Sleeper) Font Cache (http://lbp.me/v/xdnd8) has a huge amount if awesome fonts, you will need to cookie cutter them though. I have spent a lot of time breaking them apart and putting them on an emitter on a Microchip and want to share them for LBP2 usability.

Comphermc (http://lbp.me/u/comphermc) also has some great fonts (http://lbp.me/v/spdkp-) also.

Correct me if I'm wrong something is emitted from a MicroChip will be loose and separate... I think. It is in the Logic Toolkit.

Has anyone tried this before?

If it does work I COULD share it as a Font Toolkit... But I want to make it clear that they are not mine and don't want to get hearts/plays off of their hard work. Does this make sense?

I have made one font for Back To The Future, well, actually two fonts as there are two different typesets and it was crazy hard work to keep to theme.

often using materials that use less thermo space will give you the 'complicated' message less often.2011-07-19 05:45:00

If you're too lazy to use the stencilling technique, there's another method you can use. From an older post (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=50900-HOW-TO-Get-LBP1-Alphabet-Fonts-Working-In-LBP2&p=789607&viewfull=1#post789607)...

Another trick I noticed about linked object-sets (i.e. collections of objects which have dotted lines linking them when you try to place them), is that destroying the "key object" in a captured version will remove the individual object copy/paste restriction.

The "key object" in any set is the one which the popit cursor line points to when you try to place it - in Comph's "Block Simple" font, for example, it's the letter 'A'. So...

Place the font set from Community Objects.
Capture the set as a new object into My Objects.
Place the copy of the set from My Objects.
Material change the letter 'A' to dissolve, and attach a battery to it.
Quickly unpause then repause to allow the 'A' to dissolve.
The remaining letters can now all be copied/pasted individually.

Okay, so you lose the ability to use the 'A', but you could repeat the process to dissolve everything except the 'A'.

I used the same technique on his 3D layer tool to destroy the rear-most block, thus allowing the tool to work as intended.

So... after a lot of faffing about I have got a huge amount of fonts made shareable in LBP2, I've tested it with a few people and it works fairly well. But I am a little unsure whether I should publish a stage of other's hard work, they were made for the community and I have gone to great lengths to retain all creator information available.

What are people's thoughts on this? You see a lot of re-published sackbot costumes and I guess people could try to also claim fonts for themselves already, but if publishing this with all the information as previously mentioned is this a good thing?

Depends on the original author - in practise I found that very few actually have a problem with their work being republished by someone else. Of those who don't mind, some will want to be credited, some don't really care about being credited as long as you don't claim it was your own work, and some don't even care about that.

It's probably polite to ask them before republishing, or if they're no longer active on any of the forums, then it's probably safest to assume they'd want to be credited.

There was a discussion about this (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=51717-A-guide-to-Credit-Etiquette) a few months ago which might be worth a read.

Thanks for that. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for!

As an example I have unlocked Comphermc's fonts placed them on a micro chip with a level link to his level, Named the Chip 'Fonts by Comphermc' and put a duck sticker on it. Each font chip is also named, as an example "Impact Bold by Comphermc" and if you open it it has a note that says Created by Comphermc, and "Contributor Morgana25". I know that Font Centeral is now set to copyable but not all fonts are in there.

The method to unlock actually seems pretty easy... and comes from your method of removing ownership.

It works on pretty much all the fonts I have tried so far... not sure why no one else has used it rather than 'destroy all the letters', 'Cookie Cutter' etc... Anyway I have just gotten a very enthusiastic OK from one creator. Which is good to see, I'll reach out to others but it looks like it'll be up shortly!
