Space Assassins 2

Archive: 42 posts

Welcome back Space Assassin. A new contract is available to you.

Gaia - the last of the living planets and protective force of the universe since the dawn of time.

The Happy Driller Mining Co. have met with hostility from the locals while attempting to plunder rare minerals found in Gaia's subterranean caverns. Happy Driller will pay a handsome reward to anyone who can destroy Gaia and make way for the mining ships to harvest her debris from space.

Yes, it's morally reprehensible, but hey...whatever!

Oh my, that looks absolutely incredible!
Such detail, it reminds me of the Predator movies.

This will be first on my list when I log on.

looks great, visuals plus gameplay, right up my alley. will add it to the queue and leave feedback soon. if you can, give my level "nature's solitude" a go, it is more of a scenic platformer.

I had a really good time with this one.

Visuals - As usual, your visuals are pretty incredible. All the little details were carefully thought out, and I was completely engrossed in your world you created. The alien architecture was really convincing. My son came in while I was playing it and said "wow!".

Gameplay - The platforming was never frustrating - even during platforming puzzle segments. The changes in gameplay you introduced were fun and challenging.... took a bit of practice especially with the rolling part (I can see some kids getting mad at the level in that part). All 4 segments from part 2 were well designed. I was really impressed when I encased and destroyed that one dude - great effect! The only area that seemed a bit finnicky was the final balloon segment - the balloon seemed to move less like a balloon, but this is a minor quibble. When I got the balloon to the end the first time I fell to my death trying to jump out of the balloon to the platform.... maybe a camera zoom in at that part so the player can see what is going on a bit better.

All-in-all it was a great experience. You have a really nice series going on here!

So after playing this my mind is officialy blown away, this level really had me engrossed from beginning to end. The constantly changing gameplay and innovative uses of the lbp "inators" were brilliant. There were some challenging parts, none too hard and I liked the scenery and enviroment you had contructed. It was really innovative and interesting to explore, no bugs or anything game destroying to report, although I noticed that the talking transmission cat didnt use the alien gibberish voice when it announced that you had completed the mission like it did in the beginning, also I think I saw some underlying message at the boss in the shape of a female reproductive system? Nice man, added more to the level artisticly, great level dude, after the level ended, I somehow had a feeling of....content 2011-07-17 05:31:00

OMG!
This is what I wrote on lbp.me

Simply fr***in' amazing! Unbelievable how you twisted the setting. The visuals are really unique and incredible. WEEEEEEEELL DONE! Impressed, I'm really impressed,
That was my quite speechless reaction.

When I saw that Ungreth published Space Assassins 2, I had to go and play it, no matter how tired I was.
LBP2 gave Ungreth the tools to really up his game.
Everything looks so wonderful, so well conceived, the platforming is slick and the gameplay/puzzles are fun and not annoying at all.
What impressed me more is the visuals though.
They reminded me so much of this cover from a book I loved when I was a kid
http://www.gamebooks.org/gallery/sorc1.jpg
and John Blanche's stuff in general.
Rarely I saw someone that hooked the visuals in such a mature way like Ungreth does, foget the toys look, his stuff lives, breathes, and it's all about the little details that make the experience astonishing.
The feeling of organicity you get from this level is overwhelming.
Love it love it.
I hope this won't be Ungreth's last song like more than once he mentioned, and hope to see more of this stuff.
Thanks Ungreth!
Noe go to play his stuff!

I couldn't have stated it better than Omega. Your level is unbelievably the most intriguing and visually mind blowing. I don't think there's anyone out there that went above and beyond than Ungreth has in terms of visual realms of lbp2's capability. This is more than I could possibly imagine one's capability to bring an added dimension to an already spectacular game such as lbp2 or any other out there. I hope everyone reading this will venture to this epic level like no other.2011-07-17 07:44:00

I've just played this level earlier today and liked it. I han't read the description in the thread before playing and I'm not surprised to see Super Metroid in the inspirations.
It have this great feeling of exploring this new, incredible and weird environements. On the negavie side I'll note that some camera angles where maybe too far (especially for the horse boss fight, I had to try a lot of time to catch these bombs), but overall the cameras were ok, giving us the look of these detailled environnements.

Speaking about the visuals, I was impressed by the statues and constructions in the first part, but the background feels weird. Also, the fact that the camera was often far gave this flat aspect to the level. But it was very detailled and looks great. I enjoyed the second part more, especially the first part with the mini-bosses.

In the gameplay section, it was good, I liked the way you defeat the minibosses, the variety in situation vas a good point, because the level is quite long, but you never get bored as the gameplay is constantly evolving. I already mentionned the issue I had with the horse bombs, I also had some complaints about the sequence where sackbots were comming out from a big mouth, that wasn't really fun. I also found the last boss less inspired than the minibosses, you just have to shoot him. But overall the gameplay was great.

This level is really enjoyable, with some crazy sceneries, good gameplay and a lots of ideas. Congrats !

If you have the time to return the F4F favor, please check my BLOCKS level (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=60020-BLOCKS-1-PLAYER-ONLY-Puzzle-Platform-Exploration-level). It's also an exploration level and Super Metroid was also in my inspiration for this level, but I don't think it can be directly seen. And there are no ennemies, just exploration/puzzle/Platform.

Thanks !

Played it yesterday. Even it being 4 in the morning in my timezone I had to, having loved Space Assassin 1 this had to be played immediately.
The platforming works well. I missed 1 platform or 2 at the beginning because of the various layers having similar stickering, but considering that when I played it I was up so late that it was almost early, it's probably not a problem for well-rested players. And being able to gaze at this beautiful scenery is something I'd happily trade for missing a couple jumps here and there. Of course this is an amazing looking level and even it being one of the most beautiful I've seen there's no noticeable lag, so congrats for that. Most eye-catching objects in the level contribute both as aesthetic and functional element, not wasting any level space with futilities. There are no sound effects anywhere that Ungreth has missed implementing and every sound fits perfectly for what's happening, making the level highly atmospheric and further cementing Ungreth's reputation as the "Psychological Creator".

The puzzling is a highligt, as we get to use different power-ups and controllinator devices in ingenious and imaginative ways to escape enemies, make or way through them or kill them. There's grabbing, there's controlling, there's shooting and there's grappling, all in ways rarely or never seen before in LBP2 levels.

Awesome level.

Being a space assassin is a whole lot of fun. I'll echo what everyone else said about the amazing visuals, Gaia feels alien and alive. The hub design of the 2nd part worked really well, and each of the 4 guardians presented a unique/fun challenge. The glyph puzzle was cool and very intuitive. Really enjoyed this...it's made me want to create again. I had some trouble with the balloon part...I went WAY over the really cool pyramid...but I eventually figured out to come back...maybe retricting where the player can go in the balloon or hiliting the landing would be beneficial...but probably anyone that gets that far will figure it out. Thanks for a great level!2011-07-17 21:39:00

Aw man, how did you do that? It shouldn't be possible to lift the balloon high enough to clear the ledge that you disembark at. There's a tagged line of invisible hologram material that pushes the balloon back down once it reaches that hight.

You got me worried now.

Edit: i just tested that stage and I cannot re-create what you did at all. The balloon doesn't reach a sufficient hight for that. I'm utterly perplexed.

this level really is top class. I left a review on there as well. great unique design, visuals, gameplay and puzzles. It felt like i was playing a whole different game than lbp. the setpieces at the start were "uncomfortably" beautiful, really strange but well fitting images . great job, i can tell this took a while to construct.

... cementing Ungreth's reputation as the "Psychological Creator".

I'm so glad SnipySev mentioned this. I have to say that visually, this is one of the finest in all of LBP or LBP2. It is also one of the most interesting stories, and the gameplay is awesome, not too easy but not too hard. It's a true work of art, it's organic, it's clever, and will end up a classic. Well done, Ungreth. :star::star::star::star::star:

<sniff sniff> Not buggy... its a uniquely fun experience with a uniquely rare issue that you seem to keep finding!

Ok ok.. now the matter at hand. That being Space Assassins 2.

Quite amazing level to be honest! Though it was green. Very serene and amazing planet and an incredible adventure...even though you are killing off the planet as your goal. Quite the change from the first mission, but I guess a space assassin for hire can't be extra picky and these are tough times! lol

I seriously loved it from the first time I saw it. The extra changes as well as the final battle are all new and wonderful. I like the little bit of change up in each of the attacks from the heads, though a bit more random on which one was coming next may have been an interesting battle.

I never found any secrets!!! lol ...so now I have to go back through that thing and explore more!!?!? AAARRRGH. lol

Nice job man.. really proud of you.

I only found 1 secret (not entirely sure how!)

What a beautifully made level! The time spent on all those layers, really made for a visual feast, I always wonder when seeing lvls like this how the editor isn't screaming at u to stop (doesn't take long before it does for me... ). Really fun mini bosses, atmosphere was rich and thick, can't fault it!

Thoroughly enjoyed, ty!

I've already told you about the spot where water doesn't kill you and the game-breaking pyramid exploit... But I've found a host of new bugs involving the eyeball jumpers :hero:.

There's a variety of places where you can get stuck, but, since you've disabled poppits, the player can't try again. This is a major red light. Multiplayer adds layers of problems. Players can actually bounce off each other to bypass the crane statue... and presumably travel anywhere from there.

Anyway I've found all 10 secrets on top of your devious Easter egg and now I'm off to ace it and get the top score.

The thin, non lethal patch of water is an extremely inconsequential issue, so I haven't bothered to change it, but the pyramid issue has been fixed since you reported it to me.

You'll have to show me where it's possible to get stuck next time we're both online.

As for the issue of players bouncing off each other....well, dang. I never thought of that!

Guess what. The level link simply failed to work. Either that or part two has no lights. . Playing alone, I saw the part 1 screen, and it passed, and I'm in a dark room with the sound of flowing water. Probably a game glitch, unless it means anything to your logic.

Anyway... *uploads pic of me standing in water*

That is a very powerful level you made. Even better than the first installment.

VISUALS:
The visuals looked unique. It has very weird but satisfying details of creatures, plants, and statues. The layer glitch is well put in this level, especially the freaky cloud material background at part 1.

SOUND:
Great use of the cinematic musics.

GAMEPLAY:
The gameplay of this level is varied with puzzles, usage of LBP2 tools, and controlinator characters. The multi-path at the start of part two has fun ways to destroy the mini bosses, and the final boss is radical. I didn't encounter any bugs or glitches, so great job.

OVERALL:
This is by far one of the most artistic levels in LBP2. A yay, heart, and positive feedback.

I don't know what's happened there then. You know yourself that the link normally works since you've played stage 2 a few times already. I haven't changed anything that would affect the level link and others have been taking photos of themselves playing stage 2 in the last few hours, so it's gotta be a random glitch.

I just recently played this level.

You are indeed an artist in your own way. This level was very artistic and brilliantly designed. In order for me to give a more detailed review, I will have to finish it. I played up until the 4 Guardians. I defeated them all and I assume you have to get a "key" from each of them to get to the Mother Boss. Well, when I defeated the bird Guardian, the Holographic image showed, but I could not find the key. I tried to go back and access was blocked. Nothing else happened. I don't know if it was me or a game bug. Just thought I'd let you know this. I'll give this level another try later.

You only need to light up the glyphs, there are no keys to collect. Once all 4 glyphs are illuminated, go to the lower ledges of the central cavern and hold R1 when you stand on the bridge over the waterfall that looks like two hands. The bridge should now move down the waterfall shaft, taking you to the code room below.

Went back and played this level. Figured it all out. I know what I did wrong. Thanks for the help.

As for the level itself.

Amazing detail and design. I can't imagine the hours of work put into these levels(s). Gameplay was smooth with no lag. It was a fun and enjoyable experience. The Mother Boss, although it was simplistic, was a great Boss Battle. Enjoyed the Mini Boss puzzles (that's where I screwed up). The puzzles were at the right difficulty. Not too easy yet solvable to the average person.

Overall, great level. Thanks for creating and sharing this level.

I have noticed you do F4F if requested. If so, I have a new level I recently published called Neptunia. It is in my Signature. If you feel like it, let me know what you think of it.

I just played the level, and I do have to say that you have a very interesting world crafted. Visually, that is. We haven't actually gotten to see too much of it. It was very green, to say the least, lol, which suits the Gaia theme. The platforming during the first half was simple, yet fun to do and cool to watch. Then there's the puzzles during the second half. The visuals actually helped make them more fun. it's hard for me to describe, but it's true. They, as someone else said, weren't too easy, yet not too simple, either. The boss at the end was also nice, although I think giving it a more dynamic moveset would have made it more intense and "epic", as some would say.

Anway, please don't forget to check out my level.

Hey, I played this level series and I really had a blast. I was amazed the moment I entered the first level and well the whole thing looked really alien. You made a nice usage of the wrinkled glass in the background and the lighting to make the whole thing look very unique. The emerald color and even the emeralds themselves made a very nice theme. In terms of gameplay there isn?t that much around, but the whole story and the accompanying sad music really made me feel bad about destroying the planet. It was such a pretty one. But hey, a space assassin?s gotta do something for a living, so here you go, destroying the four guardians and eventually Gaia herself, which was a pretty awesome, layered fight (both literal and figurative).

If I had any kind of constructive feedback (I?d have to be really picky about this) is that the butterflies chasing you in the final battle get to you pretty fast. Maybe you could slow down their movement and increase Gaia?s life a bit.

I have seen other levels of yours, Ungreth, but this level completely blew away my expectations yet again. You truly are one of the best creators out there.

I hope you found this feedback useful. If you have the time I?d like you to invite to play and give feedback on my level Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield (F4F):

Following complaints that SA2 didn't feature a cameo appearance from the Stiff Pistons pole dancer, I have now included him in the level as an easteregg. If anyone wants to look for him then you'll find him hiding somewhere in stage 1, but consider yourselves warned...

...he's very well hidden.
