Color-Matching

Archive: 11 posts

I'm trying to make a costume that combines Rorschach's pants from the Watchmen pack with the Count Sackula torso from the monster pack, and I want the vest to match the pants. Basically make it look like a three-piece suit but, you know, with the jacket replaced by a cape. Because what could be classier right??

I can't seem to find a sticker that matches the shade of purple of Rorshach's pants, though. They're all either too light, too dark, too blue or too red. I don't suppose someone has a good idea for one that might match? So far "red paint" in the doodle category has come the closest but as the name might imply it's a little too red. Not even the Rorshach's Leg sticker works, it's too desaturated!

Also, an unrelated question that doesn't really warrant its own thread: on the Green Goblin Costume, are the hat and ears all one piece, or is one a hat and one a head piece? I'd like a pair of elf ears and I'd like a cap like the Green Goblin's, but I don't want them together.

You could take a very close up picture of it and use that. If not you could search some color creating levels2011-07-15 04:15:00

Unfortunately, that wouldn't work. Pictures never come out exactly the same color because of the lighting. Like if you took a pic of a material and then put that sticker on top of the material, you'd be able to see that it's discolored. I'm not sure if it's possible to set the lighting just right so that a sticker comes out exactly the same color as the original, but I've never been able to pull it off.

So yeah, you're just gonna' have to try your best to match it using the stickers that are available and lighting to try to correct it. So if your purple comes out too bright and too red, dim the lights a bit and add a blue light and so on. I don't think I've ever perfectly duplicated a color but you can get pretty close.

Use front view, set fog color to black, and play around with neon material. Thats the best way to get pure colors, but it has limited range.

Second option, find a matte material with no reflective color, types sponge work good, put a white sticker over the whole thing, and put some LED lights in a square around it. You can tweak the lights colors and brightnesses to get any color combo possible in the spectrum, but it doesnt always come out pure, and there is a texture on it.

Those are the two options I always use.

I ended up finding a color sticker level that had one that was close enough that no one's gonna really notice that they don't match perfectly in the level, especially if I make use of some lighting and color correction like sehven suggested.

anyway, does anyone know about the green goblin costume?

Using Neon is a great way to get custom colors. Also, I'm not if it'll be the right color, but I have an old LBP1 level that gives away custom colors and there is a purple in there. Here's the link, the custom colors are in the Roof Garden - just follow the signs: http://lbp.me/v/tbzzny2011-07-15 19:11:00
