Group RPG level

Hey there
So im planning to create a side scrolling RPG level, with various characters/classes to choose from.
Swordsman/Mage/Priest/Ranger/ but those are pretty common so im planning to add a few more usable classes of my own.

All classes mentioned above i have pre-made, though im continuously adjusting, adding and improving them and whatnot

Im also hoping to make this game based upon multi-player rather than a single player adventure, though im still deciding on that.

The idea of the level is you progress through the level exploring, breaking crates. Defeating monsters and performing tasks to gain points. Which then allows you to set free priests to aid you in combat, or buy powerups/health.

Certain characters can have different effects upon the environment when using the 'intuition' skill.
Example: there is a door that cannot be destroyed by attacks, so you will be forced to perform the 'intuition skill'
A mage using it upon the door could simply unlock it, where as the warrior could be slightly more reckless and clumsy and attract attention from enemies upon forcing the door open. Vice-versa.

Upon reaching the end of a level you will encounter a boss, which will require a warrior class to defeat(as he can absorb the most damage). Aswell as take less damage from boss specials.

Im fairly new to actually publishing anything since i really never have before, and fairly nooby with logic and all that. Although ive spent about 2-3 years in create mode whenever i touch lbp. The levels i usually make are for my 9 year old nephew, just story levels with puzzles and whatnot but this time id like to publish it and generally raise the quality of my level .

I will proboably make my own music for this level but if anyone else wants to contribute anything feel free to add me on LBP, since i need quite alot of help on: level-making/logic and general ideas if you guys have anything to add

Hmmm... Sounds Pretty Epic

You could make a conjurer class, who can turn into a dragon or a pheonix or something... o.O

Try watching people play the game 'Trine' i've got it, its a side scrolling game, you may pick up some useful ideas

..... Hope you do a good job...

So this is gonna be sorta like Dragons Crown or Castle Crashers? Sounds fun. I would personally recommend some interesting twist on those cliche classes--perhaps more even. And the idea of requiring a warrior to beat the boss is lame. You should make it possible to defeat the boss with any class/combination, with of course each class having its own way of taking the boss down since they play differently--Unless, all those characters can accompany you in single player or are able to be switched in and out, or follow you around like in Kingdom Hearts.

Whatevers the case, good luck with this! I love co-op rpgs!

Hmm, RPGs tend to be some of the most difficult levels to make well. What you describe though sounds quite good. I also think that limiting it to the warrior to win is a bad idea, as that'd pretty much limit every single play to using the warrior.2011-07-15 04:39:00

The first half and a tutorial is online. I queued it and check it out later. And dont worry about art, I can say programming is more important for Rpgs and takes the most time to create; I always start with logic first too.

So you know it does not have classes I was working on it, but like I said it is my first experience with lbp tools it is like zelda with more rpg elements. Also if you play can you please review I can't get those on any of my levels positive or negative.2011-07-15 05:21:00

This sounds cool, but yeah you should probably have every class be able to take down a boss, I mean unless your having like a single story mode where your forced to play as thwe warrior, but if thats not the case you should make every character defeat a boss. Yeah, i wanna put bigger twists on all the characters ^^

And that was a bit of a bad explanation, bosses CAN be defeated without warriors. But not if you play by yourself, any two classes should be able to deal enough damage to kill a boss before they die. I suppose it wouldn't be entirely impossible. I tested it by myself with a mage and i could kill the boss, however i was in an empty level so i had unlimited running space . In a more realistic finished version of the game there would be a lot less space to run.. though i guess i can somehow lower the difficulty if you're playing alone

But obviously a warrior makes it alot easier, as they are meele based anyway.

I been working on TONS of logic on my EPIC RPG already if you want you can help.

Logic wise my game includes....

Evasion system
Skillchain system
HP,MP,TP system
Menu System
Enemy System
Movement Systems
Ability Systems
Tag wireless input systems
Pet System
Auto-Heal System
Auto-Attack System
Sackbot Animation Sytem
MP Cost System
Range Emite System
Hologram Animation Systems
Music Swap Systems

Some of these both enemys and classes/jobs have.

Theres quite alot of the game done. I mean alot...

I have World Map, Field Areas, City Areas, Quest System Layout, Hyper Enemys, Tons of Enemy made, Tons of Animations for enemy attacks made... the only thing im lacking really is music.


I been working on this before LBP2. Mainly with designing enemys. I dont do any googlie eye type enemys I do really good detailed enemys.

You use Blackmage, Dragoon, Whitemage, Samaeri. Each of these job classes have there stregths and weaknesses and have diffrent play styles.

I have Bard class about 50% done but it seems with the huge amount of gameplay I gotta add to the game im not gonna get around to it till theres alot of Content on the game.

Before you step into this project you are doing its gonna take months... and want to know if you rather join me in creating mine since mines already quite large and I need help with designs.
