"LBP" Opensource project

Archive: 7 posts

Hi everyone,

does anyone know if there is already an open source project that is really similar to LBP?

I tried looking at google.com but could not find...
(I think that: or I'm starting to forget how to make searchs, or google is not the same anymore, lol)

I ask because I thought that would be awesome if all the creativity of the community and
the energy that's being spent was really free...
Imagine if the levels I made was availble for everyone in the world to play?
If I could copy it to my pc and share it and all...

Thanks!!

I thought Phun was opensource but apparently it has been renamed to Algodoo and is being sold for a fee :/ It was similar to LBP.

Hi,
ah yes, phun! I had forgot this one.
Coincidence is that, the first time I read about LBP, back in 2009,
I was reading opinions/reviews about phun because I had it installed

About its current status, it really seems so... :/

In my searchs here last night, I found a game called 'Secret Maryo Chronicles (http://www.secretmaryo.org/)'
that is opensource and has a built-in level creator/editor.
The concept end up being similar to LBP but the implementation is somewhat different...

Thanks!!

Hello all!
Just to inform that after some time searching I found this one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7Vf8ShHv2k

I downloaded and tried it, and I think it is a really nice open source one.
In the state it is today, it got considerable simpler gameplay mechanics than LBP. In fact, super simple.
But since it's open, it has a lot of space to flourish.

During this time I was thinking; for me many community made levels are no doubt better than the original story ones.
This means to me, that he community indeed can create cooler things than the original developers.
So I wonder what the community could do if it were freer?
I mean, if it could create costumes, materials, power ups, backgrounds... what would we have?
Would be a mess!

That's all! Thanks.

Hi, thanks for the replies!

warlord_mags, the thing with minecraft is that, as far as I know, it is very commercial, for profit and not at all open. (please correct me if I'm wrong!) And I think these characteristics can end up limiting the community potential...

biorogue, yes its nice.
Just keep in mind that, like I said, gameplay still pretty simple!

As far as I messed with it, I found that one build the level in an 3D environment and then can
choose is it's going to be a first person level or a third person sidescroller like the one in the first video.
I messed with the two and think both are nice.

This would be the main site of the game/project which I forgot to mention in the last post:
http://www.sandboxgamemaker.com/

I post this video below just to show the nice graphics of the water implementation it has. At 34s.
(mind the sound volume right in the beginning)
