Merging materials two different thicknesses

Archive: 5 posts

So I don't have access to my old map from lbp1 because it is on a friends ps3. Anyway, say I have basic cardboard which spans all three platforms, then a cardboard which only spans the front two. I know I can glue them together, but is there a way to make them look as if they are merged? When googling, all I could find was the merge glitch, and that is not at all what I want. When glued, they still look seperate.

thanks for your help,
Phil

Well, you can use the Flat layer in the front to your advantage. Paste the two objects together then use the Flat layer in the very front and cover the entire object perfectly.
i hope i helped you!

No, you can't make objects that complex, trust me I wish I could. But no, you're basically limited to the 2 layer look. I'm not sure if the post above is related to your problem, it sounds like you want the lines on the side of the object to not show up. The best you can do is to just design the object with a shape that minimizes the visible difference. Not much to be done.2011-07-12 10:18:00

You guys are awesome. Thanks for the feedback. Getting stuck on little things like this is a pet peeve of mine. For some reason I just can't move on when I get held up. Some day I might learn to get over it and just focus on other things.

XeroAdvent - I was aware I could cover it up with that layer, it just seemed more work than needed. Now that I know it can't be done, I can move on haha.

Sp0ngy - Thanks for the affirmation.

Both of you have a good one : )

...is there a way to make them look as if they are merged?

Not sure if it still works, but there's a cheat involving one of the materials from the Marvel Pack. From this post (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=29321-Marvel-Level-Kit-and-Costume-Packs-fighting-their-way-to-your-PS3-starting-July-7th&p=524963&viewfull=1#post524963)...

...the Retro Comic material is great, since material changing to it produces a smooth material sans the bevel. This is wonderful for custom stickers, and I've use it half a dozen times already...

So if you matchange both pieces to that material, and sticker them, there's no noticable gap between them.
