Are actual TV's possible?

Really, all you need is all the colours of the hologram in the same spot, in 1280 x 720 format, then make a sequencer (with tags that activate a light) that has a pattern which creates a scene and you can make a tv. (Any of you crazy *astards willing to give it a go? ![]() | 2011-07-10 16:59:00 Author: liamdaniels ![]() Posts: 85 |
I actually did something like this back in the beta. I only used 16 by 9 pixels, and only had 8 different colors (16x9x8=1152 individual pieces of hologram on screen). Even with these "low specs", the framerate was pretty bad when playing this level. | 2011-07-10 17:38:00 Author: Slaeden-Bob ![]() Posts: 605 |
You can see this effect in one of the Story levels; I think it's Full Metal Rabit, right at the start. | 2011-07-10 21:03:00 Author: gdn001 ![]() Posts: 5891 |

But I think it only uses 2 or 3 holo images, alternating every second or so. | 2011-07-10 23:47:00 Author: SnipySev ![]() Posts: 2452 |
Making real pixel TV is inpractical in LBP and it''s only waste of resources, insted of wasteing thermo on pixels and logic that you will never use just make holograms ![]() | 2011-07-11 04:10:00 Author: Shadowriver ![]() Posts: 3991 |
I'd still love to see some crazy genius make a video game on a TV work like that. | 2011-07-11 05:39:00 Author: LBNinja ![]() Posts: 204 |
I'd still love to see some crazy genius make a video game on a TV work like that. I'd be surprised if the thermo could handle that but who knows! | 2011-07-11 19:56:00 Author: Speed Racer ![]() Posts: 156 |
You wouldn't need any colours except a bunch of white holograms actually... and a TON of stickers. As other's have pointed out though, that level of animation in this game would be pretty taxing... to say the least. I work in animation, so I know the amount of work we're talking about here. There have been a few good examples of animated hologram in levels in the past... but nothing smooth enough to compare to anything you'd see on TV that I'm aware of. | 2011-07-11 20:02:00 Author: Rustbukkit ![]() Posts: 1737 |

(Any of you crazy *astards willing to give it a go? ![]() A 1280x720 LCD screen would require 2,764,800 individual pieces of hologram or neon material. You'll run into complexity problems well before then. | 2011-07-11 22:47:00 Author: Ayneh ![]() Posts: 2454 |
What about 8-bit imagery? Wouldn't 50x50 or maybe 100x100 pixels be enough to make something recognizable? I mean, it's still LBP. I don't think you'd need a HD TV recreated in-game playing 30fps sequences for the achievement to be impressive. | 2011-07-11 23:11:00 Author: SnipySev ![]() Posts: 2452 |
Well people already do small screens to make scrolling txt ![]() Also it does not need to be sequencer to program what is displayed ![]() | 2011-07-11 23:14:00 Author: Shadowriver ![]() Posts: 3991 |

I don't think you'd need a HD TV recreated in-game playing 30fps sequences for the achievement to be impressive. 50x50/100x100 pixels is still massively complex. Even if they were black and white the 50x50 screen for instance would still be made up of 2500 pixels overall. When my friend was experimenting with screens they couldn't make anything over 30x30(just a guess) without complexity issues. We tried all sorts of things including placing the pixels in triangular arrangements so they'd count for more space but no luck. | 2011-07-11 23:23:00 Author: Ayneh ![]() Posts: 2454 |
Well theres that theory out the window then XD I always throught it was pretty crazy how TV's work in genral, never mind re-creating it in a game-ina game on a tv ![]() | 2011-07-15 22:06:00 Author: liamdaniels ![]() Posts: 85 |
a while ago i made some sort of a tv: http://lbp.me/v/x4g8xv but it is very bad for the thermo as said above i can place 2 of these tv's in my level and that it is overloaded. ![]() | 2011-07-17 19:17:00 Author: Dexist ![]() Posts: 570 |
