Never ending level :o

Archive: 11 posts

Oh hai, 606am, gotta love it...

So, that thermo hates me (and we all hate it), did I read somewhere that you can emit your lvls in chunks, thus helping with the thermo gage?

2 questions really. First, is there a limit to how many objects you can capture/store made by yourself?

And if that emit thing works, could you have a never ending lvl (if u were mad enough)? By popping out the section in front and destroying the section behind?

1You can hold as much as the thermo allows

2Yes. If you had a way to keep the player from hitting a wall

It still has to load... there is a limit and heaps of emitters with heaps of stuff in them tend to break a lot.2011-07-09 06:44:00

Yes, I know that, but some have been daring enough to actually pull it off ^_^.

I meant that question literally, ie you seem to be heavily capped on how many community items u can store, is there a limit on self made inventory space?

I'm confused; telling me you know something that someone else asked doesn't make much sense. I'm glad you know that... but you're not the person that asked the original question.

Now to continue with Masseyf's question;

People do use the thermo technique quite a bit but to make a 'never ending level' doesn't make a good level, especially if takes so long to load that no one bothers waiting. It'd be very unstable and prone to not working as well.

There is a slot limit to popit storage space, but an item could be insanely complex or a simple block and still take up the same amount of room. Soooo if you made something that filled the thermo and captured it it'd take up a slot. Because you can't make something bigger than that then that is the limit.

Incidentally a lot of levels are 'unending' without going to insane levels of trickery. A side scroller with a few emitters is potentially never ending. My stage Miserable Flying Weather (http://lbp.me/v/yzhyj3) could be 'never ending' as the points will keep coming until you fail.

Gah, I phrased it wrong...

Although a level with a large heap of emitters may take a while to load and is prone to breaking, I know a couple of people who have been successfully able to get past that step and make a huge level, made mostly of emitters, that only takes a short while to load and, in their experiences, has not broken yet. It is possible!

I think that if you keep the material count down, and the thermo use comes from awesome design, then it'll load in quickly.

If you bust out every deco under the sun then I think the loading will get a little long.

Yes, but don't forget stickers, materials, logic, notes etc.2011-07-10 15:23:00

Well I by no means want to make a never ending lvl myself! Just the current lvl I'm working on I've only done a small opening scene and I've a third thermo used, so was hoping to blow it after moving on to help with thermo load. But it seems that wont really help since ultimately I was hoping the game takes into account how much is active in the sandbox at any given time, but instead if the thermo still counts it all then that won't help, I guess I'll lvl link or something depending on how I progress....

And that sucks about inventory limit, would of happily let my hd fill with LBP stuff...

You can always store the to-be-emitted components in another crater on your moon, use your popit inventory to attach them to the emitters, then delete them from your inventory. You'd need to go through a hassle if you'd need to edit any of them so make sure you have properly tested the part before moving it elsewhere.2011-07-10 18:51:00
