IGN rips apart HOME

So it seems IGN is not too happy with HOME (to put it mildly) here is a link to the full article: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/938/938179p1.html | 2008-12-14 06:50:00 Author: OCK Posts: 1536 |
So it seems IGN is not too happy with HOME (to put it mildly) here is a link to the full article: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/938/938179p1.html It's just the beta, it's not going to be some amazing thing. It's just a place to chat and hang out anyway. lol..people had extremely high expectations it seems. The theater and music player need to be changed for sure though.. | 2008-12-14 07:50:00 Author: xbriandeadx Posts: 134 |
Really though, people do expect great things from Home, when everyone should understand that it is basically like chatting with your friends. What I can't wait to do is be able to play games straight through Home, I can already see people going: "Alright, I need 3 people to help me 100% all the levels in LBP. Who has the game and is willing to do it?" Boom, instant 4 player party. Unless of course, they leave this out. Then I'll probably cry or something like that. | 2008-12-14 07:55:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
Yeah, it's a Beta. But it's also been in development for years. Regardless of it being a Beta or not, after that length of time I'd expect something a hell of a lot better. I'm not happy with it and completely agree with IGN. I'm pretty sure some people will argue my decision and call me a "spoilt little kid screaming for more" or something. But screw it, I can only tolerate so much. | 2008-12-14 11:35:00 Author: Unknown User |
Wow. That seemed very harsh. Page one was kind of neutral, page 2 and 3 seemed to absolutely hate it, page 4 was the only one who seemed to enjoy it. I kind of agree with page 4. I think people forget it's still Beta, and the majority of it is free. If they could put the high level of moderation that's seen in LBP and unleash it on Home, it might be a better game. But yeah... at the moment it just feels boring, pointless and empty. Maybe in the future it might be improved, but the fact that the open beta is so... open, has very limited and poor content and no real censorship, it all just makes for a negative experience. I know they want to test their servers hard, and I am sure they are getting some pretty intensive tests. But to release it now and not make it very obvious that it's beta, and have such a poor experience for most people... well, I think they will need to be pretty convincing to try and bring people back when the full version is released. | 2008-12-14 12:26:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |
Compared to NXE and Mii home has alot more features, IGN is just BS talk. | 2008-12-14 12:32:00 Author: oldage Posts: 2824 |
Gmail is still beta so it shouldn't be compared to other email providers, yes? The social part of Home works pretty well, so yay for that, and they do have a wide variety of pretty unique gestures. All the enviroments are nice looking as well! But Sony has been in this game a long time and they should be aware that minor gimmicks will only impress a few. For a game so focused on customization, there's a not a whole lot of it. The serious lack of initial clothing makes everybody share at least one similar feature. To take a look back and consider that this has been in production probably longer than LittleBigPlanet speaks volumes. I know it's a free game (and that they probably had alot less development capital), but so are plenty of social interaction games (who probably had considerably less than what Sony gave to the Home project), and this offers a similar experience of Habbo Hotel when it had initially launched, right down to the mobs of people dancing and trying to block the way, and they do that because there's not much else to do. As for comparisons to NXE and Mii's, I think Mii's are still the winners, because if you think about it Wii Sports could be considered valid to compare to Home, Nintendo offered it free and while Mii's aren't too big on the online aspect, it can be your only Nintendo game and would keep you entertained for months (okay maybe like two but still!). If Sony can achieve that with Home, I will concede my statement, but until then, Wii wins. | 2008-12-14 13:34:00 Author: MrGlass Posts: 21 |
I used home 3 times in the closed beta, didn't touch it since the 28th of november then deleted it on the 9th of december. I agree with the critics, it is crap. | 2008-12-14 14:55:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
this is not a game its just a chat room using avaters, and some mini games with it, it also ment to expand the throphy system as well. The nearest thing to this is Mii, which can not compete aganst it. Remember it NOT a game. As the saying goes you get what you payed for. Plus it better then any MS or nitendo alternive | 2008-12-14 15:33:00 Author: panzer3000 Posts: 362 |
What did they excpect it to be like? Its a social networking system. Not really a game. | 2008-12-14 15:38:00 Author: lordflash11 Posts: 194 |
i agree with ign | 2008-12-14 16:25:00 Author: mjuice Posts: 111 |
I agree with IGN. Since day 1, I always thought Home would be boring. Nothing special. If I wanna socialize for a game, as they said, I'll look up a forum online and become a member. It's boring, dull, and I rather put my Creativity to better use instead of decorating my "home" for people to go "wow cool, ok well see you later". The only fun I've had was making a female avatar and having 5 users sorround me. That was funny as hell. "hey were u from" | 2008-12-14 19:53:00 Author: aer0blue Posts: 1603 |

Meh, it's free. FREE! If people are complaining about something that is free, it's pathetic. Don't like it? Don't use it. I don't think much of it at the moment, and may use it more in the future. Just not now. | 2008-12-14 22:20:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Herpes is also free. I don't want it either. Argument destroyed. | 2008-12-14 22:20:00 Author: Unknown User |
Herpes is also free. I don't want it either. Argument destroyed. That was the dumbest thing i've read this year :| I'm not going to even bother arguing my reasoning back. It's in your face flat out obvious. | 2008-12-15 01:28:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
That was the dumbest thing i've read this year :| I'm not going to even bother arguing my reasoning back. It's in your face flat out obvious. I've got ryans back xD Home is GOOD because it's free. Free things are not usually this good | 2008-12-15 01:31:00 Author: Thee-Flash Posts: 3154 |
Herpes is also free. I don't want it either. Argument destroyed. No, you have to do the Twist with a lady friend. Which costs energy. For Home, I sat for a couple minutes.... To play it. And I kinda like it. Bowling is fun. :kz::blush: | 2008-12-15 01:33:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |

For being a free service, it's pretty bad. I have more fun here than I do on Home... Don't you think that's saying a lot? | 2008-12-15 01:49:00 Author: aer0blue Posts: 1603 |

It still amazes me how all almost all the media I am reading is saying that Home has officially been released. It's still in Beta, which by definition means that it's not the full product yet. But all the papers are saying it's out, with no mention of this Beta status. | 2008-12-15 02:04:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |
I've got ryans back xD Home is GOOD because it's free. Free things are not usually this good lol, cheers. Hooooowever, i don't know if i'd go as far as saying it's good..... yet! You can't complain, because you are given software which allows you to play mini games, talk to people, customise spaces/avatar and go around making a fool of yourself. Now, Home isn't too fun to be fair. There's not a lot to do, and it does get a bit boring. But if more meaningful ideas are put into this, it could turn out great. It's not finished, and will always (i hope) have updates with new stuff (as in useful stuff, eg not clothes lol). But as i said, you cannot complain about it. And i'm now in the mood to argue with the Herpes point after that rant. -Herpes is a STI. Sexually Transmitted Infection. (so use protection!!) Home is software. You choose whether to download Home. Herpes chooses you. -If you don't like Home, but you already downloaded it, just don't use it. Delete the data, and never press the button again. If you don't like Herpes and you have it, that's very unfortunate cause it won't be going away any time soon. -Home is overall a positive thing. If you were either given the chance to sit in a blank room or play Home, it would probably be Home. Herpes is rather negative. It is an infection. If you were in the same situation, but instead of Home, you could have Herpes (and still just sit in that blank room), i'd go without thanks. -The two are totally unrelated. It's like comparing a CD... to a hamster. Argument truly destroyed. | 2008-12-15 02:04:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

It was meant to be a joke, but thanks for proving how much of fanboys you are... :/ lol, cheers. Hooooowever, i don't know if i'd go as far as saying it's good..... yet! You've proven to be a fanboy already... P.S. Do you always get THIS butthurt about video games? Seriously. | 2008-12-15 03:20:00 Author: Unknown User |
Enough arguing, let's get back on track please i noticed a door that is locked with a big home gate blocking the with 2 escalators i wonder what's up there? | 2008-12-15 05:11:00 Author: Thee-Flash Posts: 3154 |
-The two are totally unrelated. It's like comparing a CD... to a hamster. I found that one out the ward way. Ever put a hamster into a CD player? Not pretty. Home Beta is crap. Home itself once it is complete, I am quite sure will be great. It'll probably just take another year to come out. | 2008-12-15 11:04:00 Author: Unknown User |
Home just doesn't do it for me yet. I've no interest in the theatre idea as most of the videos can be found online in higher res, with no border, and load quicker (never mind the additional time to get to the theatre, load the room, then loading the vid). The UK version which I'm on had, on my last log-on, no additional game spaces like the Uncharted area or the Red Bull area, evidence that again the UK is going to be left behind. It's an interesting idea, but the fact that it has been this hyped and so far has had this many problems and dissapointments, I can't see myself being a regular user, even if it is free. I'm not saying never, I'm saying until a decent update comes along. I've no patience to wait in line to bowl, play pool or Ice breaker when there are better, free games online that I can play, without waiting. | 2008-12-15 11:50:00 Author: flakmagnet Posts: 1084 |
Just so we can get one thing clear... i still don't think Home is that good. Definitely not a fanboy. Argumentative; maybe, sometimes. Also, the fact that the US one just owns my EU one makes me annoyed. They should be the same. Let alone the C-931 error i've seen more than home itself. My argument has always been that you just can't complain. You're given something for free, which has great potential. I hope in time Home will live up to it. But that's at least a good half a year away i bet. Oh, and yeah i probably was a bit of a hypocrite. But i was in a totally different mood in the second post, lol. EDIT: Very good points moopf. But i think they will invest tons more time and money in this. If they left Home as it was now, it would be embarrassing, like you said. And i really think they want to prove Home is worthy of their time. But i suppose we got to remember that this is still the Beta. It would of been best to just release it openly when it was finished really, and just have a big closed beta for the server testing. Most the PS3 owners i know don't know much about Home, and having their first taste in the beta won't exactly catch their eye straight away. | 2008-12-15 12:04:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
How could they rip apart this? *Running Man Dance* wfH94lsE__g | 2008-12-17 16:40:00 Author: lordflash11 Posts: 194 |
well Home is a beta at the moment so theres bound to be tons of server problems and stuff remember the LBP beta. compare that to the finished games theres a big difference. LBP's beta wasn't as bad as Home's but anyone can download Home while you needed a code for LBP so mm could control the amount of people. the only thing that annoys me is that the US one is about 10 million times better than the european one. | 2008-12-17 16:56:00 Author: Don Vhalt Posts: 2270 |
Meh, I now consider myself totally underwhelmed. The best thing I've seen so far was trying to turn Sully's into a ***-friendly bar (with my female av) with amusing results. Aside from that, the minigames are poor, and waiting for them has pulled on my last nerve. There is no reason that 4 people couldn't all stand around the same imaginary cabinet playing seperate games, queing for these barely-better-than-web-games is pointless, and right now there isn't anything better to interest me in home. | 2008-12-17 16:57:00 Author: flakmagnet Posts: 1084 |
