Dawn of Man: PLANNING

Archive: 25 posts

Alright, since Winter Solstice Break is coming up, I will have 2 weeks of free time, which means plenty of time for the forums for meh.

I want to play another Roleplaying Game, but the Pirate vs Navy thread has long ago died due to the business of school.

Dawn of Man: We start mankind anew. From scratch. Earth is completely uncivilized, with no borders. We will build societies, governments, technologies, religions and eventually cause this joyous, peaceful world we have today.. or maybe we can do it right this time?

OK, I am starting a list of participants.

Dawn of Man is greatly determined on the amount of participants, so if you willing to play, please copy and paste:

YES. I would like to participate in the Dawn of Man game.

Rules are still being brainstormed, so stay tuned.

We are currently planning here. (http://roleplayerguild.com/f26/dawn-of-man-interest-check-10939/)

Can we please have a semi-intellectual game?

For the sake of science...

Since I'm not emo at the time of the start of this role play, I would be happy to join at the start.

Obviously, we cant do my evil minion one again( thougi who'd want to be in a role play starring me?) although I like that Fallout one... hm.

Wait... the dawn of man one... would we each have our own civilisation and stuff and engage in trade and war or whatever? If so, that one without a doubt. We could even have an economy layout, and stuff... GLAVIN!

but whatever we do I'll join.

Yes.

There would be an entire planet for us to colonize. Probably a fairly small planet, depending on the amount of participants. It will be very realistic, meaning if you do not meet your biological needs, you will die and be reborn in another body.

For sake of convinence, here is the entire post:

I call this game 'Dawn of Man'

Basically, it is a completely open ended game where you start out as a caveman in a hunter-gatherer tribe and you play through your own version of history, on a completely customizable planet. You create everything all technology (everything artificial; that does not grow without the interference of homo sapiens) with your characters, just like our ancient ancestors had to.

This game is a MMPORG, and as time passes, so does technology. The history does not have to follow the history of Earth, but of course players can be inspired by real life events. Obviously, people start to assemble tribes and claim territory. If someone already owns a piece of territory, you can overtake the territory either by killing the leader or by religious or diplomatic means (like Spore except it is actually realistic ). Of course, if you make a well guarded territory you have a good chance of keeping it since the planet is so massive. As more and more people gain their own territory, those territories can either become allies or enemies (or neutral) to other territories and they can form state, countries, or even continents. The territory can form a government if they wish to or they can have anarchy. Everything is just like it is was when civilization started out.

The more people that contribute to the planet, the more technology is built. Religions, clans, cults, groups, businesses, churches, organizations, or whatever exists in the Earth can be formed. The game would obviously constantly be creating patches to fix errors, since there are unlimited possibilities. You will actually have to work to create technology, as everything is made from scratch. You start with only natural resources and you have to use stones to create stone tools, use stone tools to create spears to kill wild animals, skin the wild animals for fur to keep warm (yes, your character will as as a human being: you have hunger, fear, greed, sexual drive, the need to expel waste, you get sick with illnesses, diseases, you reproduce (which the new players take the bodies of!!), ect. You can then use the fur to furnish your hut, making it more suitable for the winters. Ect. You get the idea of technology.

You die when you cannot survive the Earth, and you must start in a new human's body. If you can pick to be born from any female human you choose, so if someone in your group/family, ect is pregnant, you can easily start again in your old home, so no worries about losing your possessions. People can elect the officials if the government is a democracy, you can be owned if you are a slave, you can be ruled over by a king or a landlord as there are will be many government types to choose from. Or, you can make your own type of government that you wish you could live in.

You can advance all the way into space where humans can start to try to find other habitable planets, but it will be difficult to get the advanced technology, because like I have said, the players create everything themselves. There is a huge incentive to create new technologies and found countries, or make other contributions because like on our Earth, there will be history books taught in schools about the history of the planet.

I will edit later for sure, but you get the concept. The ideal would be that this is a virtual reality game, but the technology for that is not available quite yet. Here we come, the future! I would definitely live in this game BTW.

EDIT: I cant view spoilers either because I am on psp internet.

I really like the post apocalyptic game. The idea of survival after all is lost is fascinating, and I would love to take part in it. :3

Dawn of man is rather interesting too

Any new ideas?

I prefer Dawn of Man, but that is because I haven't heard any better ideas.

If anyone has anything that you think people would enjoy more than making their own civilizations, please tell.

I'm really interested on how Dawn of Man would play out, and to see the parallels of what REALLY happened and what happens in-game. A social experiment. :hero:

We could have a group of heroes (villians?) that could have attributes that can be built up and others that have certain skills. For example, I could be a weapon dealer (Swords, maces, etc.) and you can buy my stuff to help you do missions for people who will then pay you. Then I could afford to make better weapons that have different weights and damage points.

This would all take a lot of planning, but I would do a lot of this.

Sure. As technology develops, factions will emerge with special interests, whether that be 'fighting evil' or 'killing for profit', ect.

Of course, we would start out with stone tools, and we would have to actually build 'swords', 'maces', ect. in order to use them.

But yeah, of course. This game is VERY open ended, which I think has a very big appeal. :hero:

I still prefer the post apocalyptic idea more so than the Dawn of Man one, for a few reasons actually.

In the P.A.G (Post Apocalyptic Game), technology has already been developed and long gone, which leaves us with KNOWLEDGE of technology, thus leaving us with more experience and ideas of building future technologies, rather than having to waste time on research and trial and error, realistically speaking.

Secondly, the idea of roaming in a wasteland, hunting down whatever may be in your way for survival is much more appealing than starting out new colonizations. Of course, a la Fallout 3, traces of technology are still present, which further aid us in this quest for survival and ultimate victory over whatever foes nature has to offer.

Fallout is awesome in it's own right, and I loved the game. So that further urges me to go with this type of roleplay.

Also, I made a poll. Vote for your favorite.

Do we choose our own names?

I can make the map. Just a big grid right? I could colour code it for different terrains. Just tell me how much you want and where. How many squares should there be? (Approx.)

Currenly, I have it so your parents. (GASP!) will pick your names. And yes, each individual will be born, other than the founders. (Which will be determined )2008-12-14 02:02:00

Count me in, but if your going to name me, make it something cool please. I don't care if it doesn't seem realistic that an unborn baby is asking for it's name already. Just don't call me something stupid

Lol!

Updated OP.

And yeah, I have decided to move the game to a roleplaying forum, so more people who are actually interested will join. Of course, I will keep this thread open, but just consider this as the LBPC Dawn of Man base. Hey, we could even have a LBPC city and together take of the world! dorien can be our king!

...or that tyrant lbp.... >_>
