Heya Random,

i played through your stage a bit back and...saaa... let's start with the good bits, shall we?

You've picked a good theme and a good material set to match it. You got some nice set pieces (i particularly liked the holo-material mushrooms in the cave areas). It's obvious that you've put some time and care into things, and that should be lauded. Plus ambition, you're trying to do something interesting and big with lots of moving parts instead of just slapping a few materials and premade objects together and saying done. That's commendable.

On the other side of the equation...

The level's pretty sloppy looking still. You've got bits of machinery still visible here and there, camera angles that show gaps between the stage and background, areas that are too dark (like with the boss, where you really can't see much detail). You need to sweep through, in play mode, again and again and again until it looks just the way you want it (or at least as close as you're willing to accept). Keep a notepad next to you when you're doing this, because with a big stage (even a small one) it's easy to forget things that need fixing.

Another point is stage direction...you don't really have much. i don't mean story; there are cut-scenes here and there. i mean, letting the player know what the heck he or she is supposed to be doing at any given time. This doesn't need to be hit them in the head with a brick obvious, it could be a coloured light over a door that matches a coloured object (or another light, or whatever) near the key. Or a quick camera cut in the general area of where we should be going, or some indicator as to why we're going there. A good example here is your teleport spot...i get past this patrolling guard (nice set up there, by the way, but why was there only one? You could've milked that a little more, i think), and then there's this big rotating glowy thing. Should i touch it? There hasn't been anything so far to indicate one way or the other. And so, i gamble and touch it, and wham, no warning, i'm yanked all the way over to...heck i don't know. What just happened? Sure we can roll with it, but rolling with it only works in stages with no story spine there...straight run and jump fun platformers...if you want to build a world, you gotta give a little bit more.

Last...though maybe this should be with point one...is holes. A number of spots in your stage you can just fall through the map, because things haven't been made flush, and fall all the way to the beginning again. Now, i know it's hard to catch everything, and sometimes the combination of jump and angle required to fall through a so wonky you figure it's worth a gamble to leave it as is (trust me, i know this one, i think there're still a few like this in my stage)...but unless you can be pretty darned certain it's impossible to fall through that gap, then you'd be better off plugging it up.

i know it seems like i'm dumping a lot of negative down in your lap, and if you want to shrug it off, no problem, but i think you've got potential...at the very least you're trying, so...*shrug* may as well do it as well as you can.

Keep pluggin' away at it, mate. We look forward to seeing big stuffs from you.

Good day and great creating!
