Best gaming magazine?

Archive: 19 posts

Hi guys,

I'm going to subscribe to a gaming magazine but I just had to look up a list of them and found out there are like...80 Billion different kinds (a little exaggeration).

I really like GameInformer and Nintendo Power, but what do you like and why?

*Why does there be two different Nintendo magazines that look equally interesting :,(
Sorry.. Just thought..

I looked at one forum site where a guy asked the same question you're asking now. More than 3 pages of people ALL said Game Informer. No other suggestions. You should take their advice. 2011-07-06 23:51:00

I'd say Gameinformer. They get news before anyone else, and they also include humor in their Magazines sometimes
They also have a website where they leave their reviews and update stuff going on all around gaming Gameinformer.Home (http://www.gameinformer.com/default.aspx)

Just use the Internet and put the subscription money into buying games.2011-07-07 10:40:00

Use the internet. It's better spent because you can just look up random things 2011-07-07 15:28:00

gameinformer. Plus if you go to gamestop and join the "rewards" program, I think it's $15 or $20, you get a free subscription to gameinformer and get discounts at the store. it's a good deal.2011-07-07 16:04:00

Gameinformer, definitely.

Just don't base ALL your purchases off of their reviews, look at others, too.

for example : Motorstorm : Arctoc Edge got a 7, but other places gave it 9's

For me its a 9.5

Since I pool my money from various things, I can afford GameInformer's annual subscription fee (that and I'm a GameStop PowerUp Pro member, so I got it for free this time around). I personally like it because it's more in-depth and to-the-point than other magazines (*cough*GamePro*cough*), and provides thorough content. If the other posts haven't indicated it yet, GameInformer is the best quality you can get... and it's convenient that you can renew your subscriptions at any local GameStop.

I also read a lot of PTOM, some Nintendo Power and EGM, and other odd choices like Edge and TheEscapist. Of course, I never buy/register to them, but they're still convenient to read, especially on long flights.

I still remember this one great videogame magazine called GameNOW, and THAT was good. It was almost like a blend of EGM, GamePro and GameInformer rolled into one, and it was actually quite fun to read. Sadly, they're gone now, but I have a gut feeling that they left their mark on other publishers out there.

Don't have one favorite as all of them I read were random quality per issue.

But Play did an amazing feature on Psychonauts that really stuck in my memory.
GameInformer did justice to games Official Dreacast Magaizine(ODCM) trashed for no good reason.
And I learned about N64 and PS1 games from EGM.
ODCM gave you a demo disc with every issue.

But now all I do is watch Classic Game Room.
Don't really read game news now, just what I might pick up at a glance while reading some unrelated topic.
Too many games to play already.

I used to get game and computer magazines but dude... they're pretty much redundant now since most stuff is online.2011-07-08 11:22:00

Lots of people saying not to bother. I dunno. It's the difference between reading game guides online or owning the official one. It's not just about the information, but the presentation of the information, the screenshots and game art accompanying the text. Yes, much of it can be found online but honestly I really like Gameinformer and there's something to be said for buying a magazine featuring your most anticipated game and reading all the details. It's much more enjoyable than if you were to just read the scans online. Also the interviews, the monthly features and editors comments are often unique to that magazine.

And on a sidenote regarding game guides, I use the online ones more as finding the information is quicker but it's very nice owning a guide and just sitting and flicking through it.

Thanks everyone for the input.

I agree with Burrich on the internet v. magazine issue thing. There's just something about having the magazine and being able to get away from electronics (ironic) for a bit to read it.

I also just like getting stuff in the mail. It makes me feel like a vip
