Mechanical Purity [design concept]

Archive: 6 posts

Mechanical purity is designing a level to function without any sensors, movers, rotators, logic, or advanced connecters. Why would you want to make a level like that? One reason would be to show off your designing prowess. Another reason may be simply the esthetic appeal of such a level. The concept would require knowledge of weights, levers, and balance to create a level. Logic is possible in a mechanically pure level, but it would be done physically, not with sensors or chips and would be very difficult. If you do decide to make a mechanically pure level, please put [mechanically pure] in the description as well as give brief description of what mechanical purity is.2011-07-06 08:48:00

Well, we would need a physical rope for this.2011-07-06 12:12:00

Nobody force you to use logic if you don't want to you can even make such level in LBP12011-07-06 14:55:00

Logic is a lot harder with no chips, sensors, etc. Lol2011-07-08 08:37:00

I like the idea of this too. I used to be a watchmaker and I tried making a mechanical movement in LBP1, besides from the physics engine being kinda finicky the bigger problem was the springs/sprung bolts just don't have enough torque to either power the wheels or to act as the spring in a balance or barrel in a mechanical watch.

For another project I had in mind a bipedal walker where the method of suspension was mechanically inherent in the leg itself, so it could walk over uneven ground without issue - but I found there weren't enough layers to have all the levers and things in the design work together without colliding.
