Conquest!

Archive: 16 posts

Hey Guys, this is my level that I've been trying forever to get plays on. I'm not begging for plays or anything, or doing F4F, I just want people to know my level is out there, without having to spam the cool pages.

The level is inspired by and heavily draws from the Star Wars: Battlefront series, and involves capturing all the command posts in a battlefield and fighting off enemies. The review have all been positive, so far.

I will only be taking 10 F4F replies, don't want to review too many levels. Cheers!

Thanks!

1- I didn't like the control
2- You could have added a lot more visual.
3-only 1 type of fire was kinda boring?
4-overall made me click ''yay'' for the effort and theme.

alright, thanks. a lot of people have been asking for a joystick rotator, but i don't want to change it to that, I don't want my level to just be a twin-stick shooter. Also, I couldn't add any more stickers or decorations to the battlefield. i got the message that said so.2011-07-04 23:34:00

Hey, always good to meet another Alistair (if that is your real name )!

I've added your level to my queue, and will play it at some point when I get back. If you don't respond by the time I've played it, I'll edit this post. If you do respond, I'll just make a new post.

If you could add your support to a fellow Alistair, and play my level, and give me your opinions (You Sunk My Sackleship!) with an online chum I'd appreciate it very much. Please, please, please don't be put off by the (quite frankly) criminal lack of plays.

It'll be better if you review it in my thread (link in my sig). Note that you can't play the game on your own, it has to be against someone online.

Hmmmm, do we allow Alisters into our club?

I'm about to go play your level now, I'll edit this very post.

I'm sure I made some notes on this last night.... must have miss-placed them. Will have to go from memory.

Firstly, I like the tutorial, with the guy guiding you through things. That was a nice touch, plus it was nice to see a bit of humour injected in to it. Now, on to the gameplay...

I think the concept is very good. The first thing I thought was that this would work well as a multiplayer level. I think there are some improvements to be made though:

-I think the arena was a bit to big, and it took a little while to got from point A to point B.
-The controlls for the tanks were a little loose at times, I did get the hang of it eventuall though. I also think the tanks could have benefitted from some sort of speed boost action.
-I like the addition of the AI, however there are some problems with it. On a few occasions they managed to get themselves stuck on each other. They seem to be so determined to get to the command posts, that they'll barge you out of the way.
-The final problem is when an enemy spawns on a command post that you're trying to capture. I'd imagine that the solution to this problem is simple. Just attach an inverted player sensor to an AND gate and attach that to your emitter. Attach what was previously attached to your emitter to the other node in the AND gate. That way, an enemy won't spawn when your in the near vicintiy.

All in all, a good effort. Well done.

Thank you very much for the review! I'm glad you like it. In response to your suggestions:
-I know the arena is a bit big, this has been pointed out before. However, if the arena were smaller and the ships faster, then the game would be over much quicker, and for complicated reasons, make the enemies win much more often, which would both make the level a lot less fun.
-A lot of people have asked for a joystick rotator for the ship. This would effectively turn my level into a twin-stick shooter, which isn't what I was going for.
-The command post is still theirs until you fully capture it (it takes 10 seconds). Them spawning there and shooting at you adds a challenge!

Thanks again from the great reivew!

Still looking for 9 people to do F4F on my level! come on everybody!

Too bad I'd already played this level, i could have been one of your 10 F4F's!

People, even if you don't do F4F on this level, you should still play it. It is one of the best ones that I have seen, instead of fake costume giveaways and bad bomb survival that rule the cool pages these days . The logic this must have taken is incomprehensible! It's hard enough for me to make a simple aircraft, let alone a map that lets you choose which point to come out of!

So anyways, all in all, play this level. You will enjoy it.

You should add a joystick rotator. It would make gameplay bit easier and better
Just a thought.

Alright, I will be on holiday for a while, so I will not be accepting any more F4F offers for the next little bit. You are, however, still free to try out my level. In fact, I encourage it 2011-07-10 23:16:00
