Stargate (Realistic)

Archive: 9 posts

Greetings!

I recently republished my only LBP2 level as I was not satisfied with the original version. Now, with this version, however, I am!

The level goes by the name of Stargate (Realistic), and as its description says it is meant to simulate a Stargate in action and as such is not a typical level per se. It is more of a concept and a tribute to Stargate series itself, and as such it only takes roughly 1-2 minutes to complete. Now I haven't had the time to hone everything and there are still some things missing, like a working DHD. The DHD is simply compensated by a simple 2-way switch, at least for now. Soundwork, Stargates movement and pretty much everything else is working.

Here you have a few pictures taken from my level.

The level is nothing grand, but I had tons of fun making it - simple as it is - and that is what matters. However it would be nice to let people know about this level and let them experience it themselves, if they so choose. Have fun!

Looks very well built, a lot of fine details. I've queued it, but forgive my ignorance; what is DHD?

I am familiar with the movie and saw a few of the episodes on TV but I'm not well versed in the Stargate Lore

Just played it, and if functions very well. Was a little confused as to how I was meant to line up the markers though. The seemed to work better off to the side rather than directly in front of the red V thing. (sorry, I'm sure it has a stargate-y name that I don't know).

I got a little stuck trying to line up the bottom two markers. While spinning the wheel it locked in to another one, and I realised that the two bottom ones don't have or need signs.

I really like how you used the stickers as glyphs. They actually tie in really well. I can see this as a lock box or level hub for a very interesting series and perfectly themed. All you need to give out is the level co-ordinates and the player dials them in!

Thank you! I am rather satisfied with how the level looks, especially the Stargate. DHD is a dialing apparatus used to dial and activate a stargate. There practically are a few different versions of it shown through the series but the one in this picture is the most basic and best known one.

Yes, I kind of intentionally left the level and players without any real clues on how the Stargate works. I only offered the correct symbols and an order in which to dial them from top to bottom on the relic seen to the right of the Stargate. Everything else is somewhat meant for fans of the series. Also the chevrons (the v-shaped things that light up once dialed) are, for some reason, not responding whery well to signals the symbols are feeding them once aligned. I have no real explanation for this and have done all I know to fix it, but with no luck. I think it is just because of delay.

I got a little stuck trying to line up the bottom two markers. While spinning the wheel it locked in to another one, and I realised that the two bottom ones don't have or need signs.

Those are the eight and ninth chevrons used to dial different galaxies and Destiny respectively, and are only rarely used in the series. To a fan they surely are familiar, but I relocated them from being the last two on the top left to being the ones on the bottom for aesthetic reasons.

This actually went through my mind as well. I am not sure about the hub yet, but there surely will be Stargate-themed easter eggs hidden in my upcoming levels.

Ah... ok that DHD thing makes sense, wouldn't be too hard to implement either. I'm thinking a grab sensor and an AND gate. The other thing going into the AND gate would be a contronlinator set to nearest player and the left and right L Stick input.

You'd have to split the signal through a splitter and have both the Left and Right signal go through individual AND gates but it'd behave exactly like the current switch. So you grab it and it'd work exactly the same as the current setup.

I'd probably put the controlinator inside a microchip and have the grab sensor also activate the chip. Means it'll re-set to whoever grabs it!

Check out my Object test (DeLorean) in my sig... not sure if my 'teleport' logic would help you with the stargate jumping but I'm happy to share the concept.

It's not in the same bit of Canadian forest they go to 90% of the time so it's not that realistic.2011-07-03 09:23:00

That is very much true! It was my purpose to create a more of a classic Goa'uld-ish kind of visuals. But you are right, the nearly legendary forest would have made a great environment too, if not better even.
