The Underground Grotto of Tortola (LBN Legends)

Archive: 9 posts

Hey I just published the second part of LBN Legends competition levels. In this level you will platform your way through a grotto where you will encounter a few pirates, fire, lava, etc. all the while collecting (if you wish) treasure along the way. But be careful, as there may be someone not to happy about your presence there. I hope you like it and any feedback would be great. Here is the link:

You can view pictures on the link.

Also special thanks to beta testers and to the_hog_flu (aka jerry) for contributing the epic head of Blackbeard, many thanks dude.

You may want to watch the intro movie first if you wish. It was my first attempt at a movie and it is not as polished as the main level.

Just an update. I reworked the boss fight to make it more accessible. Just make sure you grab the beard until all four pieces of the beard that is grabbable is gone. Use the barrels to get to the higher two pieces of beard. You need to score 8000 or more points to get the three prize bubbles at the end of the level.

And again folks any feedback would be great. I spent over forty hours on this and if you check my sig you will know my work is high quality.

Another job well done, Shookie.

VISUALS:
The Pirate themed level design looks neatly polished, and the Blackbeard is nicely made.

SOUND:
Good music usage gives this level a pirate feeling.

GAMEPLAY:
The platforming is very impressive, and the treasure hunt is a nice optional objective. I was about to tell you what's need to be fixed in the boss battle, but you already did. One thing you should fix is that the skull head stacks in the Blackbeard's area needs to be un-grabbable.

OVERALL:
This level is rated "Arr". A yay and heart.

Another excellent platformer from the platforming maestro. Again you have used a well thought out blend of materials, decorations and objects to create a grotto style atmosphere. I loved the hunting for treasure side mission, although I didn't get them all. This was an enjoyable platforming experience.

Smiley faced and hearted.

@justinart, as always great feedback and a big thanks from me. I fixed the skulls so there should not be any misgrabs. Glad you liked it. Also, the_hog_flu made blackbeard for me. You should check out his comp trilogy, they are awesome and I even made one section for him in act 2 in exchange for the head.

@mic, thanks for the feedback. Got your level queued up to play so I will leave some feedback soon. Thanks again mate.

@everyone else, if you are looking for great levels then check out the entries for this comp.

Positives:
+Pirate theme
+The design of the level was well done
+Gameplay was good
+Music was well used also

Negatives:
-Not a big deal but the pirates who come after you don't harm you at all and would probably be good if they could do somewhat harm to you but like I said its no big deal.

Rated: Good job.

Thanks sabre for the feedback. Glad you liked it. And the other pirates were really more for humor and fun as opposed to being dangerous. You are right they can't kill you. I just thought folks would like throwing them around a bit or throwing them in a fire pit, plus being pressed for a deadline meant I did not have a lot of time to focus on them too much. Thanks again.2011-07-06 04:38:00
