Need Help: Scanning Downloads

Archive: 5 posts

I have been really paranoid about getting viruses lately, so I got a basic free AntiVirus software called iAntiVirus. It has been pretty good, but it only scans files that are already on your computer. Is there a way to scan a file before you download it?2011-07-02 13:14:00

Well it depends on what browser you use but if you look at the extensions page for it and search either antivirus or (even better) site advisor, it should give an extension which scans the page. The mcaffee site advisor i have generates a page for most websites with a report of downloads and user reviews.2011-07-02 17:52:00

Not really, unless you can persuade someone else to download it and scan it.

There's really no risk in downloading a file before you scan it, as long as you scan it before trying to run it.

Here's your solution.

http://www.virustotal.com/

You can give it the URL to a file, and it scans it with 40-odd anti-virus programs.
