LBP2-Design Team #1: Visual Aspect
Archive: 27 posts
Hello everyone, im Arnald23 I dont consider myself as an advance creator YET but im still pretty good at creating if I may say myself even if I don't have a lot of hearts -_- Anyways this is LBP2-Design Team! this will be a multiple tutorial series that will teach you how to create awesome, fun, and jaw droping LBP2 levels. Now lets get started. Part one of this tutorial will be visualization of a level, this will show you how to obtain a visual aspect of a level that is beautiful and majestic. You don't have to follow this rules you can do it another way but this is how I do it and it works for me in most of my levels. Step 1 Theme To create a level you first need a theme or a mix theme which incorporates the use of multiple theme which achieve a visual aspect. You can pick from thousands of themes like forest, cave, factory, horror, savanna, war, and my favorite of all of them steampunk! Before anything lets take a look at some levels that achieve some awesome visual and which i suggest you check out. http://i8.lbp.me/img/ft/28897d461f517f30ca9d74d6d0797a24bf4594e8.jpg http://id.lbp.me/img/ft/08d121f7b8d9e251aa9b30e9a42af1eefd67a305.jpg http://i5.lbp.me/img/ft/e45b519013138c7e1d4d4afa9ed79cc4c3536b8a.jpg http://if.lbp.me/img/ft/bcf2b62c5bbda7585ea2465a731acc1b3a14a03a.jpg This are just some levels that have some sweet visual aspect, so please don't get discourage because im going to create 5 different themes for this tutorial. Now is your turn to pick a theme. If you are having problems finding one remember that google is your friend dont be afraid to google, is not like they are going to search your history Step 2 layout Now we get to create a quick layout (remember you don't need to follow my rules) create a quick layout with 1 or 2 materials, I suggest you start with cardboard just like in the picture bellow. Note: This theme I pick is jungle because this was one of the last visual I was working on and I just started from scratch. http://if.lbp.me/img/ft/1ffd1361cee6a2c11b7f24c34aeb28b63b82e588.jpg Step 3 material Now picking the material for the level is very important, this is what brings the level together. I strongly suggest you dont use more that 5 materials in a level this will increase the thermo alot so pay attention to that ok. Here I only use 4 materials. http://ib.lbp.me/img/ft/6ab46f1dad211e843f1d934231e30e12f8b1d8f1.jpg Step 4 Sticker/decorations This is a very important one, stickers and decorations is one of the main structure for a level visual but you need to use them wisely. If you use way to many sticker and decorations it will create lag for the level and the thermo will increase. Don't use to many because is the same thing as material. Also dont place stickers and decoration where player will never look, if you put some decorations of the top just to make the level look cute to you it just pointless. http://if.lbp.me/img/ft/fef87b6b100eaa9b7a914dbd34ddadb6c5ad55b4.jpg http://if.lbp.me/img/ft/bdfb39caf538a90e654160fa810ddf917c93954a.jpg http://if.lbp.me/img/ft/dff9b3a1ed3500b0ef1abb81eeb8e67ab3c82b39.jpg Step 5 Lighting Lighting is also very important, the color, dimmer, and fogginess makes the level stand out. Putting different lights that top from the top of the level makes it look beautiful, also you can use it one different thing from sparks to explosions. Remember there are like 20 different type of light in LBP try all of them and see which one is better for you. Also the background color and fogginess also helps to keep all of this things in mind. http://i2.lbp.me/img/ft/4e294e643d95de0294c8421cb013cd639111e30a.jpg Final result This is the final result, you can keep adding to the level but please remember the thermo use the visual will increase the thermo. http://i9.lbp.me/img/ft/0498b88ad2fa6b8ccb7f64fe3114fc220541c76f.jpg Remember all the note I posted it will help you, also if you want to see other pics of my levels or others here is my account (http://lbp.me/u/Arnald23) and some pics. http://i4.lbp.me/img/ft/934a6755f92039fc1be367eabde4e751653146ef.jpg http://i8.lbp.me/img/ft/298cdf12905ab5db4389bf31f283e2b456990002.jpg http://i5.lbp.me/img/ft/2d54faa926b5089606108aa9aea63c0035e0c5b7.jpg Hope you enjoy, more coming soon XD | 2011-07-01 15:51:00 Author: Arnald23 Posts: 1843 |
Great tutorial Arnald! I DO consider you an advanced creator - especially when it comes to visuals I think a lot of people can sucessfully apply these few steps to their creation process. (Did you use the same image for picture 5 and 6 on purpose?) | 2011-07-01 16:07:00 Author: Slaeden-Bob Posts: 605 |

Yeah Arn, you are definetly and advanced creator, a lot more than me atleat. These are great, and can be really helpful to many people who are struggling with visuals. | 2011-07-01 17:25:00 Author: iBubek Posts: 682 |

Thanks Arnald. Great tutorial. Although I'm not new to art, design, and the world of little big planet, I am new to creating and sometimes have trouble translating my skills and ideas into creations on my moon so this is very helpful. Can't wait to see the next tutorial! | 2011-07-01 23:49:00 Author: TREMIC1 Posts: 263 |

I HAVE THE POWER *turns into He-Man* I think of my self as a kind of ok-to-good logic creator... but only have made one thing. My attempts at level design are getting better, practice makes perfect. | 2011-07-02 05:08:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |

Thanks for the tutorial! I do consider myself an above average creator, but I'm better at making gameplay mechanics than actual levels. It seems that my levels are most lacking visually. Maybe this will help me | 2011-07-05 17:30:00 Author: RabidJellyfish Posts: 130 |

Well ok I cant hold it any longer, the next one will be a nice one! is character and camera tutorial where you will learn how to create your own character, voice, and awesome transition with the camera. Also I will teach you guys a trick that spaff and daniel from Mm tough me using a sequencer and and cameras and it could be use in many different ways and makes the level look pretty bad *** XD | 2011-07-28 14:44:00 Author: Arnald23 Posts: 1843 |

Everyone the next tutorial will be up today! | 2011-08-17 16:09:00 Author: Arnald23 Posts: 1843 |
Great tutorial, it pretty much captures my design process from start to finish! However when I'm doing the layout stage i start with the grid, then use the corner edit tool to pull out corners and make things look more natural. | 2012-05-06 10:26:00 Author: bluesteel789 Posts: 159 |
If you are having problems finding one remember that google is your friend dont be afraid to google, is not like they are going to search your history What if they do?! DUN DUN DUN DUN... :kz: | 2012-05-07 05:23:00 Author: Kaboosh99 Posts: 359 |
Wow, that's pretty! Not anything new, but pretty, and if you plan to continue with gameplay tutorial, that's great! You see, art isn't my stuff, so I do simple levels, mostly minigames. | 2012-05-07 23:33:00 Author: Unknown User |
thanks everyone for all the feedback, I hope this tutorial help you. The next tutorial will be gameplay, some of the same concept from this tutorial will be use but it will be fun ^_^ This tutorial is very helpful! But, I have one concern for you next tutorial. Make sure you specify what type of gameplay. There are 230948 (Exageration) types of gameplay out there, so some people may have trouble applying your one tutorial to all of them. Just keep that in mind while making it . Good luck on the next tutorial! | 2012-05-08 02:32:00 Author: Wolffy123 Posts: 406 |
