Photographers?

Hello Photographers!
I've decided to do some photography for a project, and I have to get some comments on my work for a presentation I'm doing in front of a large group of people.

I would really appreciate it if you could check out my photography page on PhotoBucket (http://s303.photobucket.com/albums/nn151/plasmavore/Photography/) and leave some comments below on my photography.
I.e. What do you think about it? Is the lighting good? etc.

Here are some examples of my photographs:

Woah those look good! I don't know hardly anything about photography but that last one with the leaves looks totally professional! The one with the cat looks a little sketchy to me, but it still looks good. Great work! 2011-06-30 18:46:00

Haha thanks!

Yeah, that one of my cat (I presume you mean the black and white one on my album?) was the second I took so it isn't as professional-looking as the others. XD

..not bad. A few of them are overly saturated and a bit too much contrast. Possibly a bit too heavy handed with post processing?

Composition not bad. ...for example the first one would to better without the shadow in the left foreground as well as a larger aperture to blur out (bokeh) the background quite a bit. ..or like on the last one.. I like the depth of field there, but still that white bit of the window and shutters as well as the the pink watering can or whatever it is lends to being a bit of a distraction.

Not bad though.. keep on shooting!

I like a lot of them Particularly 1,3, 6 and 7. ( I might say 8 as well, but for some stupid reason, my computer won't show it to me.)
I'm going to agree with JWW on the fact that some of them are over-saturated.
Actually, I'm going to second everything JWW said.

I'm going to agree with jww. While editing can do wonders for a picture, it looks a bit like you're overdoing it with the contrast especially, the cat picture being a good example. In general I would say be careful with your intense use of light. While I do think like 2, and even 3 for the colors, overall I'm seeing a pattern of too much brightness. Really love that last one though.2011-07-01 02:53:00

Thanks for all your comments! I'll work on doing less in post-editing. I just love making my photos look a bit surreal and dream-like, hence the colourful, bright, high.contrast ones.2011-07-01 06:40:00

These are looking nice
Composition could use a little work as well as colour correction, but all that comes with practice

Here's an example of what I find nice in colour correction:

How many adjustments do you add to the photos?

Well, I actually do a little camera snapping myself And I think these look very professional! I think the contrast is a little high though.. But other than that, they look really good 2011-07-01 08:27:00

..and that isn't a bad thing, but certain shots lend themselves better to that at times I think. You might want to explore HDR photography which will give a very surreal effect. Keep up the good work!

Try different shutter speeds, you can get away with a few small patches being pure white but when the entire object is pure white you lose all its detail and get left with a horrible glowing blobs like those in the bike one and the cat one.

The refraction of the light looks nice but be careful taking photos directly into bright sunlight it can damage the sensor.

Trees look nice and you've caught some good detail in the leaves on the last one.

Apart from that just keep getting out there and trying different things, always have spare batteries with you (also invest in some rechargables) and maybe spare memory cards depending on your capacity.

Yeah they are nice detailed images giving good focal points in every picture. You've experimented with taking your photography at different angles which is always a good thing. It can make a picture appear a lot better compositionally than rather pointing and shooting at something.

To me some of the images look pixelated (or rather have grain on them?) Have you been using photoshop filters? If so, don't just apply a filter to ONE or your images, apply them to all of them (if it works, if it doesn't, don't apply them. Most of them will make your images look shoddy anyway). The contrast is set a little to high, try making them a little more subtle so that the image doesn't attract your eye from the focal points of the imagery.

I also like how you have experimented with soft and hard focuses, with some of the objects in the foreground and background being slightly out of focus, with the middle grounds being in full focus. That's a really good technique to use and used in the right places work well, like in your photographs!!

Out of interest though, are these images apart of the same set? I'm only asking because they don't really seem to link THAT well, do you not have others that could link more? Or is it a wide opened breif? That could explain why the images seem a little different.

Overall good effort!! Well done.

I may have gone a bit far with post-editing since it was my first real time using Photoshop to edit actual photos, I usually just do drawings on it, hence why the contrast and saturation is quite high at times.

The photos aren't part of a set, no. I'm working on my Duke of Edinburgh award, and I chose photography as my new skill, so I just had to go out and take pictures.

I've seen some HDR stuff and it all looks really good and goes with the style I like, I'll look into it.

Thanks a lot for all your comments and contributions guys!
