Nev's Review's Inc.- The Sands of Time

Level: The Sands of Time
PSN: NinjaMicWZ

First off, to find this level search the PSN name and NOT the level name...you'll be there for 10 minutes otherwise

I gotta say, I've ran into some good levels over the last few days, but this one (along with Timmy's Dream) really takes the cake. And here's why:

5/5 ---> Appearance- This is probably the best looking level I've come across playing LBP. The amount of artistic skill in this level is beyond me. The hourglasses are freaking magnificent, and the overall background appearance is astounding. Just pure brilliance.

8.5/10 ---> Gameplay- The level contains infinite checkpoints, and with great reason, because getting to the climactic end is extremely vital in order to make a fair assessment of the level. The reason is...the boss. While the boss (J@nus) isn't overly difficult, it does take some strong platforming in order to beat him. I really wish I had some screenies of this boss to show, but you really have to check it out in order to appreciate the magnitude of awesomeness that is J@nus. The only negatives I can throw at this level are the sometimes awkward camera angles, as well as the part before the boss (in which even the most patient person may go mad). My recommendation to the author is to change that part up a bit so people can experience the boss without being thoroughly frustrated beforehand.

5/5 ---> Replay Value- This is one of those levels that every other week your going to go back and play again, not because you want a higher score, but because it was just that good to look at. I can only think of 2 other levels like it that I give that much kudos too, because replayability is pretty hard to find in LBP.

OVERALL SCORE: 18.5/20

This level gave me tingles up the spine, hope it does the same for others...

Thanks alot, man... I appreciate you taking the time to do this. I'm glad somebody enjoyed it so much. It was definitely a long arduous headache, with highs and lows to progress this level from showing off some lighting and an hourglass to really making a worthwhile experience out of it that is fully functional and DOESN'T break. ugh... bad memories heh took me awhile to finally let that one be finalized, but I fixed a few of the camera issues and hopefully it works better now...

Sands of Time is the 1st part of a series called False Idols that deal with philosophical concepts in a dark, surreal and adventurous way. Free Will Hunting is the sequel. I'm currently starting work on a 3rd entry in the series and it may be quite awhile before I finish.

I added some direction arrows based on OCK's suggestion, but I stylized the arrow itself and set it to an infinite rapid fire emission to give it an thereal effect that doesn't intrude on the aesthetics and sensibilities of the level. Hopefully it makes it more accessible for the first time player.

I also removed about ten grains of sand from the hourglasses where slowdown was at it's worst. Hopefully that helps a little, and hopefully the new emitters are conducive to that end.

...finally, I added dialogue. Took about 25 mins, and I made it as inobtrusive as possible. It's still cryptic and poetic to fit with the direction of the level... it was easy and actually fun, when I tapped into my knack for verse and lyric. It sets the stage for Free Will Hunting now, in a more blatant way with your position of lordship achieved and the motive of your journey more descriptive.

I changed the name to "Time Is of the Essence" because I didn't want it confused with a Prince of Persia themed level. You should change that if you can, Nev.

This is still the best praise I ever got
