Square sensor areas! (Custom shapes)

This must have been suggested before, as it's a no-brainer after playing around with the sensor logic.

We get control over radius and proximity and depth, and with a few tricks almost anything is possible. However...

It would be great to have a tweak option for the shape of sensor areas that match the basic shapes of objects (square, triangle, star, etc.) or a checkbox for "Fit area to shape of object"...

While not as intuitive as your suggestion, currently, custom sensor areas could be emulated using impact sensors coupled with holos of your desired shape. I'm not against your idea, though.2011-06-29 06:59:00

Does that work? Because that sounds quite useful But I do agree that we need square sensor areas at the very least.

Plus the old LBP1 technique (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=17405-How-to-make-rectangular-sensor-areas!) still works.

Very nice and simple indeed. For stationary areas, this could be the method of choice. For sensing on moving objects, since you need to hold the sensors apart from the center and would need to couple this with holograms anyway to hold the object and sensors together, you might as well choose the impact sensor solution.
