Tutorial: How to make dark matter move.

Archive: 28 posts

Hi, I'm sure many of you know this trick, but I've created this video for the people that don't. This is a tutorial on how to take a material and change the properties of it (i.e. make dark matter movable, make rock and metal grabbable) I hope this helps someone, somewhere out.

Disclaimer: Media Molecule MAY patch this in a future patch, so if you use this to build parts of your level, use it sparingly. Please don't throw cats and babies at me if they do patch this and your level doesn't work anymore. End Disclaimer.

If you do not have youtube, or don't want to listen to my horrible commentary, this is how you do it. Let's say you want a draggable piece of dark matter.

1. make a piece of sponge. Make it a square, a circle, or in the shape of barack obama for all I care. Whatever tickles your fancy.

2. turn this sponge into gas

3. turn this gas into the material that you want this sponge to be. In this example, we want to turn it into dark matter.

4. Unlethalize your object.

5. Voila. You should have a grabbable, draggable piece of dark matter.

FYI, this works with any material in the game as far as i know!

hope this was helpful!

what do you mean 'horrible' commentary?

This is a cool glitch, but Sony will make MM patch this while keeping the search broken as ever.2008-12-13 05:26:00

Well, I hope not. The digestion level of mine has a few cow licks in it hidden about the place...

I'd reckon they would leave it in...

...and still have a broken search engine.

i would reckon that you could make a whole bunch of really neat puzzles and stuff like this with the main concept of "it is not what you think it is" so the puzzles could be quite challenging. I hope you all have fun with this as much as i will

Cheers!

Best. Glitch. Ever.

Making dark matter move isn't all that useful. What's amazing is that you can make any material dissolvable or make any material float.

BTW, in the 1.07 update this glitch can no longer be used. Levels that have used it are not affected by the patch though.2008-12-19 17:03:00

Indeed... now if only MM could give us a "Material Properties Editor" to replace it

Edit: We're never satisfied for long, are we? LOL

the good news is that levels that use it already aren't affected. FYI, I uploaded the level "What's The Matter?" that's featured in the video if anyone wants to play around with it, cause it does still work!2008-12-19 22:43:00

Yeah I was looking for a thread to whine about this...I guess I'll do it here.

Okay done...but seriously I finished half of a level with this glitch used...and used it a lot. Now I'm gonna have to do some serious tinkering around in order to complete my level and make it look crisp.

sad thing that this was removed but it could have had larger implications than we thought so look at it as a good thing because it could have hurt any who used it in the long run

Cheers!

Yeah thats so true. It really did work out all right. I was scared as hell, but when I checked my older levels I was pleasantly surprised that they were intact. Phew!2008-12-20 00:42:00

I wonder if this still effects retexturing of materials... I use to use the cow glitch not just to make... say, metal dissolve, but also to give the texture of something to something else while retaining it's colour. I'll have to check it out and get back to you...2008-12-20 13:27:00
