Costume levels are ok yes if they have a theme, i hate blank levels with nothing in them but sackbot costumes.

What you should do is make sure they are presented well, build a level just for displaying the costumes!

Yeah, I'd say they're cool as long as all the costumes fit under the same kinda theme, not just random, like "Here's Justin Bieber. Here's Mr. Pringles. Here's a walrus."

And making it into some kind of showcase, with matching scenery and such helps too. Here's an example: (I dunno what costumes you have besides Charmander, so I'm just picking random Pokemon)

Volcanic area:

Charmander
Magmar

Power Plant:

Electabuzz
Pikachu

And etc...

My point is that I think costume levels are cool as long as they're not just an ugly level slapped together in 5 minutes showing some guy's favourite costumes to hang out with his bros in.

I'm making a costume level myself, so I might be biased.

I've spent weeks building it, probably have spent about a month all together once it is done. But it is going to be a very unique gallery, unlike any other costume I've seen. Of course, that doesn't mean people will like it, in fact, they might completely hate it.

Like any level you build, as long as it is original and well made, people will appreciate it. I'm probably putting in WAY too much work in for a mere costume level, but hey, no one has ever accused me of knowing when enough is enough.

Ps. Since Pokemon is a well established international brand, I expect your level will do very well. Put some effort into the level, really showcase your costumes, and I bet you'll get even more fans.

I like costume levels, however a few things about them that annoy me are:

1. When they feature other people's work without crediting them.
2. They have all of the single player story mode costumes (those are everywhere)
3. When they put the prize bubbles for the costumes right in front of the costume. (Then you are forced to grab the bubbles and clog up your inventory with stuff you do not want)
4. Costume levels just to show off your costumes. (These are a waste of space in LBP2 in my honest opinion.)
5. When they put signs and decorations that say "heart me."
6. When there is no theme to them.

I see these things alot on these galleries and they annoy me to no end.

Sure, costume levels are totally okay if they're well put-together.
Make sure you have some good visuals, as gameplay is pretty unnecessary, and some good unique costumes. As in unique, I mean something that's not just story costumes or your favorite emo costume or anime character lol.

I don't think anyone should be giving away someone else's work, even if they do credit them.

That seems to be the new spam level. Requires no work.

I may never go in to costumes levels. because I can make any costume I want with no problem at all.
But IMO I don't like a level that's only a costume level. I think making a real level and giving away
the costumes as a optional gift for people to get if they want is the best way and most fun way to give out costumes.

Okay, I used Klaww's idea. I made it look as good as I could, with a field, windmill area, waterfall, and desert. Thanks guys for your advice. I'll publish it once I finish the music.

That's the point of my costume level, to show and give away a few costumes no one else has, and would be very difficult to replicate. Heck, I can't even recreate one of them!

Also, the level will feature some new special effects that haven't been seen anywhere else, so it should be fun for people to see whether they like costumes or not.

Ok, you'll need:
- A clear representation of each costume
- A method of selecting individual costumes (No unnavoidable prizes)
- Gameplay -- Don't make it boring, but don't over do it.

For a Pokemon costume level I think the answer is clear.
Sackbots in the costumes walking around and the player uses a creatinator to shoot pokeballs at the ones they want. Once hit, the bot will emit the prize (Costume) and then 'shrink'.
Add me on the psn if you want help/ideas. Pokemon is awesome!

I also need help with a name. I've always been terrible with names, and I can't think of anything better than "Pokemon B/W Costumes" but there's already one that's currently popular, and there's Pokemon from other generations. I'll give credit to whoever comes up with a better name in the level's description.2011-06-27 20:36:00

Uhh... not really. Anyway, I published it under it's crappy and unoriginal name anyway. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Ya I saw it... and I liked it.

You haven't chosen to share info on LBP.me incase you didn't notice.

I don't think that I have ever kept any costumes that I have ended up with. But I sort of want to share my BTTF costumes, it's a hard one. They're the easiest thing to share and I think that they have a dirty name at them moment because of all the copied levels and hero hair costumes out there.

I like the idea of a creationator pokemon ball thing, and you could set them up to randomly spawn and run everywhere, add a time limit and an area select. Making it difficult and a challenge to catch them all...

Make the creationator look like the baseball cap and call it... wait for it...

Pok?mon-sembles: Gotta cap them all.

Boom.

If there's a theme they're probably okay, especially if it's a theme that isn't too overused. Presenting it for example in the form of a clothing shop would also be a nice idea to distinguish it from the useless costume levels.2011-06-27 22:10:00

The best thing for the name is to make sure it includes the phrases people would search for: Pokemon & Costumes. So ideally something like:
Pokemon Costumes Galore! (Or something, I'm not great at names)
