snow/ash effects

Archive: 7 posts

so I want a doomsday feel to my stage. So I am in need of ash to be blowing from the side. I'm quiet aware everyone will be saying I should use emitors. Problem is, my stage is huge and I want the ash to cover the whole stage....with as little lag as possible. I don't care how cheap it looks, I just feel I need more detail to my stage to give it more atmosphere.

So if anyone has any advice of ideas for my problem, every word would be greatly apprecianted =]

What about sticking whatever you're going to use as ash into a huge invisible hologram that covers as much space you want and emmiting that?2011-06-27 12:44:00

You might be able to use holo with a follower and a smoke machine just off screen.2011-06-27 17:43:00

hi there. Why not make a huge thin layer of animated 'bubbles' glass material. This can be as large as you need it to be. Just glue it as the very front layer over any parts you need the effect. Just change its animation tweaks to move at a desired speed and lower its brightness to appear faint. It will give a pleasing Ash or Snow effect. If you want it to animate from a different angle (like left or right) use the UV TOOL (1/1 of tools menu) to get the desired effect. Try my Rain Test level for the idea2011-06-27 18:04:00

Antikris' idea should work although you will want control of the camera throughout your level. If you are just using the in game camera it might zoom out for some reason, causing your snow/ash to no longer emit off-screen.

Take a look at the Creator's Camera System in my sig to fix the problem. Using that or something similar will allow you to have control over the camera, knowing where it is at all times. Just be sure that you make two versions. One for 16:9 televisions and one for 4:3 televisions.
