Recommended Number of Players

Archive: 14 posts

I did a quick search and I didn't find any thread posting this suggestion, so here it goes. You know when you're playing with your friends and you enter an unkown level only to discover the gameplay is in some way limited to just 1 player, so only one of you gets to play with the controllinator and the rest can do nothing but watch or wander around aimlessly? Not all players read the descriptions and some creators ruin their titles with "[1P ONLY]" to make sure no one does the mistake of entering their levels accompanied. Provided the creators even remember to warn us at all.

My suggestion is that we get to edit a "Recommended number of players" option in the settings section of the levels we're creating, either chosing one number from 1 to 4 or chosing the maximum and minimum amount of recommended players. That option wouldn't forbid a party of entering a level in case they didn't meet the "requirement", but a little warning could pop up when the level started to load. Or the number(s) could be displayed to the right of the level's title (next to the amount of plays it has) for easy viewing when we'd be browsing a levels list.

Does anyone else think this could/should be implemented?

You could just use a player sensor set to 1 player over the limit at the spawn gate and if more then the recommended number of players join it will activate a Game ender and they will lose.2011-06-27 02:13:00

I guess that's one solution, but I'm not talking about a way to force the players out. What I meant was a quick and certain way to inform a group that they have more/less players than the level's creator recommends to, before they even enter the level. What you propose would still waste their time. It's just frustrating entering a level that only is meant for one player unwarned.

If they dont even look at the description (usually the first thing in it) to see if its one player only I dont think they would pay any attention to the player limit. But either way it would be nice2011-06-27 02:43:00

I think it would be nice to limit the number of players that can come out of a checkpoint. Or a way to toggle the player number... Would be good for taking turns, or keeping it one player.2011-06-29 16:02:00

The way to do that is make players spawn in a room with a controlinator hooked up to a sackbot

What if i want something to look nice? What if I dont want there to be a visible seam like that between LBP and my game? Sure, in LBP2, you can make your own games, but they sure did try their hardest to make you make your games look bad.2011-06-29 16:16:00

A group of two shouldn't be allowed inside a singleplayer level, at least they should take turns.2011-06-29 18:22:00

It's a good idea, and it's great that would happen too. Maybe something on top of that could be that you could have a 'player splitter' selection as well, which means if there's mulitple players you can either split the players into their own session, and when the level is finished they will join back together with the host. If people finish at different times, they will join back up with the player, although I'm not sure what will happen if a non-host player finishes first.
Also, maybe you could still communicate with them, like if you enter a bubble of text everyone else shall get to see it also, and you could hear microphones etc.?
