Before i was a pale poop who was playing games every day, almost no social life. And it was fun! Now.. for the first time my skin is getting darker, i may only play 2-3 hours a week. I got a social life, spending most of my time with friends. I got a girlfriend. And... games aren't fun anymore... When i got the ps3/psp free games, I only downloaded one game and played it for 2 hours.. nevar touched again. Oh and LBP2 is extremely boring now.... Turning 14 btw. I'm not gaming as often as I used to because I had to make a new PSN, and so far there's only one of my old PSN friends on the list... And I don't feel like it's helping me with girls or anything... Well, my friends are all nerdy and I seem to have a reverse magnetism for girls that aren't nerdy. | 2011-06-26 19:56:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |

I have seen this sorta thing happen to several people. They start to dislike games when they develop their social life. I'm nearly 15. I don't have a girlfriend. I don't want one. I'm my own person. I like gaming. Heck, sometimes I even collect action figures. Oh and, for the record, being 13 counts as being a teenager, 16 counts as an adult because that is the legal age to do things with the opposite sex, 17 because you learn how to drive, and finally 18 because you can drink alcohol. Just reading that back, it's kind of back to front. You should be able to drink first, then drive, then sex. (Excuse the adult subject) Silverleon, I fully concur. Not until you're 18 yer not. Just because you hit 18, don't mean your a man. I know people in their 50's who aren't "men." Being a "man" entails much more than being a certain age. Congratulations. I hardly find games fun anymore, once in awhile yeah, but doing nothing in the sun with your friends is what it's about! EDIT: Sex, Driving, than Alcohol. You want to establish good habits before buddying up with the bottle. Of course there is nothing stopping you from making the choice of Sex, Alcohol, than Driving or Alcohol, Sex, than Driving or everything at once for that matter, but you'll probably get "spanked" for it. BTW, I started growing facial hair when I was 11 or 12, but didn't get a mustache or beard until I was 15. | 2011-06-27 06:39:00 Author: Unknown User |

I went through this thread, and "thanked" all the funny posts. I play video games A LOT and still get straight A's and next year in High School I'm going into all the "Honor" classes. I also have a social life & girlfriend. It's all about time management. Even spending too much time with your friends is bad. Too much of anything is bad. | 2011-06-27 16:23:00 Author: Snrm Posts: 6419 |

Erm, aren't you a little young for a girlfriend? Not that it really matters, anyway... I play two hours a day. I have plenty of friends. I've been able to make friends with people with a single sentence. I'm too young for a girlfriend. But see? Gaming isn't always the answer to the negative things in life. Erm, not really? Well, if I'm honest I don't see the necessity for a girlfriend at this age. I mean, what are you supposed to- better not go there. | 2011-06-27 18:53:00 Author: FlipMeister Posts: 631 |
Well, if I'm honest I don't see the necessity for a girlfriend at this age. I mean, what are you supposed to- better not go there. You never technically need a girlfriend. Also, there is a difference between having a girlfriend and sex, last time I checked... | 2011-06-27 19:15:00 Author: Veyneru Posts: 115 |
I agree with the first poster of this thread. When you get to a certain age, life just gets in the way and other things that are more important fill up your time. When I was younger all I used to do was play Sonic, Final Fantasy and Tomb Raider all day because I didn't have much else to do. When I started going to college and university, I'd hardly play them at all, maybe an hour or two a week because I was to busy designing and doing other homework, that I felt was more important than playing video games. Whilst at uni, I'd only play my ps3 when I felt too stressed to work, as It relaxed me untill the point I could think clear again and continue doing my projects. Lately though because I've had so much free time on my hands I've found myself playing my ps3 A LOT, some days over the last year, more or less all day. But it gets to the point of thinking "Theirs only so many times I can play this game online before I'm bored". Which I've found to be true with me, games generally get really boring the more you play them. It's okay to have a game every now and again, not 24/7 like some people like to do. | 2011-06-27 20:06:00 Author: dbibby88 Posts: 378 |
I don't really know... probably because of all the awesome people here like Plasma. He's awesome. Fixed. I wouldn't say games get in the way of my social life, but there's been a few occassions where my friends have invited them somewhere and I've made up an excuse not to go. Meanwhile I'm at home playing LittleBigPlanet. C'est la vie.. | 2011-06-27 20:17:00 Author: Plasmavore Posts: 1913 |
Everyone stops playing games as much when they have more to keep them busy and worried. No need to bring "'I'm a big boy now!" nonsense into the picture. A theory I have is that games most people play are not light-hearted enough but they refuse to play anything that can be called "kiddy". And online lobbies try ones patience and are normally full of racist and prejudice name-calling. That equals more stress. To bad its not like NES where even a game about WW2 or even one about Castro taking over Cuba was adorable and unoffensive. Yes you play as Casto and Che in a game. | 2011-06-27 21:27:00 Author: Morgalaga Posts: 164 |
Reading this thread makes me want to punch myself in the face repeatedly. I don't understand why you don't see a middleground between having a social life and gaming. You can definitely balance the two out, but you're basically saying that it's one or the other. And comparing it to smoking? WHAT. | 2011-06-27 22:06:00 Author: Arkei Posts: 1432 |
I agree with Arkei, there definitely is a way to balance both gaming and a social life, and I think likening it to smoking is over the top. And you have a GF? Great. In a few months you'll probably be heartbroken and running back crying to LBP2. :/ I'm not saying that you deserve this, just that it's seriously probable. | 2011-06-27 22:23:00 Author: abyssalassassin Posts: 717 |

I play games more than I used too, even though I have had way more work to do. And yet I still have a social life, I still manage to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and I'm still maintaining a pretty good standard of work. There is nothing stopping people from gaming a lot as long as you aren't so stupid that you actually let it take over your life. | 2011-06-27 22:44:00 Author: Unknown User |
To be honest I see it wierd NOT to play video games excesivly if your 5-17/18 years old. Besides all anyone needs in life is a few good friends, PS3, and some kind of job. | 2011-06-27 23:46:00 Author: fireblitz95 Posts: 2018 |
Disagree. Contributing to what Alex is saying: Gaming does not ruin your social life. In fact, some gamers end up developing their own games and become successful game developers. They maintain their social life well and they do what they love. People who ruin their social life through addictions are people who can't control it either because they're not confident or they actually become to dependent on it. Popping in a game into a system does not mean you're screwing yourself over. Finally, not to be mean, but this sort of thread is something that you should have blogged about instead. Of course you were going to receive the inevitable "Cool story, bro"; this is a common thing for young people to go through, when they think they've matured. Those images were just ways of telling you it's not that big of a deal. However, because you responded rather rudely, you're making yourself look more like an attention whore than anything. | 2011-06-28 03:45:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |

Obviously, playing video games less often does not necessarily indicate increased maturity. Video games don't cause a social life to go off the deep end. When video games are blamed, they're just being used as a scapegoat. The person is a fault 99% of the time. | 2011-06-28 23:53:00 Author: piggabling Posts: 2979 |

Wait, you can get out of gaming? I thought gamer was a label, and you could be a real one and play COD or a casual and play **** like that kiddy LBP... There's no way you can escape a label. Maybe because I possess a little thing called common sense. Or I'm just an introvert, I dunno. I think that is maybe a slight exaggeration. Either way, I still don't understand why you can drive before you can drink in America. When you can already drive and are suddenly legally able to drink, you are going to drink, which surely increases the chance of drinkinkg and driving. I know pretty much the first thing I did when I turned 18 (excluding the whole Birthday thing with family etc) was to walk to the pub, buy a pint, and then walk to the shop and buy a bottle of Whiskey and a few cans, before walking to a mates house who was having a pary (which yes, conveniently conincided with my Birthday ) If I could drive on the other hand, surely I would feel incline to drive to the pub, drive to the shop, drive to the party and then try to drive home? Meh, seems stupid. Anyway, this thread is silly. | 2011-06-29 01:57:00 Author: Unknown User |

I'm 14 years old, have a balance between a beautiful girlfriend, a tight knight group of friends, a good report card, and frequent gaming. I don't call it an accomplishment, it's just the way things should be. | 2011-06-29 08:47:00 Author: nunsmasher Posts: 247 |
You would be considered weird if you said "I never read books" or "I don't read newspapers" or "I never watch films" or "I don't watch television" or "I don't listen to music". Well, Games are the biggest entertainment medium on the planet. Bigger than movies, music, tv, newspapers, books & magazines combined. Why would you want to ostracise yourself from the most popular entertainment medium in the world? | 2011-06-29 09:28:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
The person is a fault 99% of the time. That's what I'm trying to say!.. I couldn't control it, i'm not saying it's the games fault, where did you guys get that from? And I still play games too, but it's not as fun as it used to be! I had an extreme addiction to games, i played like 10 hours a day. And i got impacted by it pretty hard. The reason i play as less now is because I'm afraid of falling into it again. To the poster above: I never said i should avoid it? To clear things up. The smoke reference was just an example of an addiction, in reply to the 'cool story bro' comments. You wouldn't say 'cool story bro' to a person who is really happy he managed to quit smoking, would you? I'm neither saying that gaming is as dangerous as smoking, as some of you think i said. *I'm a real MAN!* This was kinda a half joke, i was refering to that i 'suffered' from the addiction. And that i could finally control myself. And I always like to put something funny in a serious post, problem? OK,done clearing things up.. | 2011-06-29 12:57:00 Author: Jonaolst Posts: 935 |

Why would you want to ostracise yourself from the most popular entertainment medium in the world? Because he has a new girlfriend. In those precarious early stages of a budding relationship, it is important to convince your sweetheart that you are no longer interested in such juvenile activities as video games, otherwise she will view you as a bedroom hibernating nerd who is more committed to shooting his friends online than to spending quality time with her. Once you've sat through a series of mind numbing girly flicks, "listened" to her moan about her friends, family and colleagues, and you finally have her heart firmly gripped in your nefarious clutches, that is the time to gently and gradually introduce her to the idea that maybe video games aren't so bad and perhaps she might enjoy this one called LittleBigPlanet where you can play with cute little sack people. | 2011-06-29 14:28:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |

Say 'what' again, little man. yet another one who thinks i said it was impossible to balance gaming and social life...geez Stayed up all night doing what.... talking about being mature? I have never been to one party where there wasn't alchohol.... keep in mind I DO NOT touch it only some people do, I ussually still leave after a while because IF the police do come I would still get in just as much trouble as the person touching it =/. So just out of curiosity... what did you do at the party where you stayed up all night? Nope, there was no alcohol there. But we did some things there you don't wanna know, though Trust me We watched some horror movies and stuff, just chillin' really. talked about things. | 2011-06-29 16:47:00 Author: Jonaolst Posts: 935 |
I play video games A LOT and still get straight A's and next year in High School I'm going into all the "Honor" classes. I also have a social life & girlfriend. It's all about time management. Even spending too much time with your friends is bad. Too much of anything is bad. Same here, except for the bit I struck out. That and I'm English, so no 'High School'. Why does everyone against gaming seem to think you can either be completly obsessed or not at all? There's such thing as a 'middle ground', and the majority of people are there. I like being with my friends, and I like playing games. If it matters, I'm turning 15. Believe me, 14 is an important age exam-wise, if you're in England anyway, but you can still balance gaming in there. | 2011-06-29 17:42:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
Hmm.. Seems like 90% of you can't take a ****ing joke, and/or claims that i said gaming can't go hands in hands with social life.. So stop posting your stories about how you can balance gaming, that you get high grades, and how happy you are with your gf! Did i make it clear enough for you!? YES I'm mad now! Well there are some days when I feel gaming is wasted time, like I'm making too much of a deal out of a entertainment medium that's ultimately pointless. I'm 18 now, got my driver's license, I'm moving to a college in another country next year, maybe I should be doing something more productive... But then I notice there's a new MM pick and my copy of *insert awesome AAA game at this moment here* just arrived. Some people just don't care about it but for me reading the manual is basically a ritual I do before playing a new game. Even if the gameplay's familiar, I've got to go trough all the pages. True, true. Some people just don't care about it but for me reading the manual is basically a ritual I do before playing a new game. Real men don't read instructions I don't think I've read a game manual in years - if the game doesn't guide you into it's mechanics well in software then it is made badly. I'd consider reading manuals if they were filled with slightly less than important backstory narrative (like what Games Workshop games' rulebooks tend to do) but other than that I'm not interested. | 2011-07-09 00:53:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

All girls want now of days is a *** guy it seems like. And I have a huge negative effect on women because I'm a little round. I'm trying to get a girlfriend, but I'm shy. As for videogames, I play them all the time XD but every now and then I just don't care for them and get bored. I hardly ever get to have friends over because I have to babysit my 2 brothers. Oh no! My dog died! ......................BLAME GAMES! Sorry had to jump on the bandwagon. I may be swaying back to the OP by saying this but here it is. I once heard this story of a Japanese single mother who got addicted to a game on the iPod that she played it day and night and forgot to feed her children. Then someone realised and she got her children taken off her. Nope, books are overrated while games are underrated. Actually I don't think it's possible to over-state some books - they really are that good. Catch 22, One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest, Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy.... (DON'T - I repeat DON'T - watch the movies until you have read the books!)... ... it's Life changing material I can't think of a single game out of the hundreds that I have played that has had as big an impact on my life as just one of the great books. The closest would be Metal Gear Solid 3 - to my mind one of the greatest storylines in gaming history - but even that is a "Made-for-TV" movie compared with the classic books. Incidentally - The Metal Gear games have some of the best games manuals - usually presented in Comic Book format - with a narrative and everything! | 2011-07-17 16:01:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |

Of course, there are awesome books and crappy games. But speaking in general. The society tags books as "Holy" and games as "Evil", even though both are forms of culture. Books are used to indicate culture level while games are the causers of violence, obesity and whatever parents can think of. But I admit that our educational sistem is to blame too. We are forced to read a long book (that most times aren't what most students really dig), memorize it and do a test about it. The schools call that "Encouraging Reading". | 2011-07-18 00:29:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |
I remember reading about a Never Winter Nights mod that a teacher was using to teach his student about the American Civil War. Basically they played through this 1 hour mod of Never Winter Nights, set in a historically accurate town, historically accurate dates for the battles, historically accurate names for the generals etc; also, the townsfolk would be saying actual transcribed accounts of what it was like at the time. After playing this one hour Mod, students were able to recount with a greater degree of accuracy, the people/places/tactics/dates of the Civil War battles than those who used the "traditional" book learning method. Sounds like a much better way to learn something if you ask me | 2011-07-19 10:06:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
RockSauron, does the ability to grow a mustache count as being a man? Where do you live? In the US it's 18 (as opposed to 16) to have sex, 15 1/2 for driving permit, either 16 or 17 (I forget ) for driver's liscence, and 21 to drink. | 2011-07-19 10:14:00 Author: Unknown User |

And they really don't do much to stop drinking, and drunk 16-18s are hell to deal with, as my family found out one night when they refused to stop following us after my mum 'accidently' knocked over their alcohol. We must have walked aroudn our entire estate before we shook them off... Also, I really don't find learning through copying text books to be very good, I don't think there are amny people in the world who learn best by reading.
