GlockenSTOP [SPOTLIGHTED!]

How far will one sack go to turn off the music? Make your way through the LBPCentral level factory and find out!
I've said before I don't get the hate for Glockenpop. I actually like the song. But that doesn't mean I won't milk Glockenhate for a joke, darn it! When a boom box at the LBPC Level Factory begins blasting Glockenpop at full volume, it's up to the new guy -- of course -- to head into the heart of the factory, find the thing, and shut it off. . . permanently.

The only thing left out due to thermo was a couple of the jokes I had planned, so this is probably the second level I've ever completed without throwing things away when the thermometer started flashing. And, for all you score addicts, not only is there a race section with branching paths, there are enough bubbles in this level that they're the source of most of the lag.

Seriously.

Feedback soon.

I don't think much of anyone really hated Glokenpop the first time.
But its overused and loops horribly, I do hate it if it plays 'over and over again' before the end of a level.

I planned for my first level to be a Glokenpop Space Odyssey 2001 spoof.
Where the monolith that teaches apes and Hal 9000 were replaced with a boombox playing the song.
But I learned that I have no interest in making levels with clearly stated concept or dependent on dialog.

But... but the song itself says that "people are happy to hear [it] over and over again"! Heh. I wish they did a better loop edit, like they did with "Voodoo Juju".2011-06-26 15:14:00

I like the design of the level.
And the overlapping magic mouths don't auto close right when they pop up!
(one of my gripes of late when playing through levels)

But the slowdown makes obstacles feel tedious and hard to judge.
Making the more original ones more annoying than the more familiar ones.

But I'm a real stickler for slowdown, if I notice it at all during platforming I usually exit.

:star::star::star::star:
But I was ready to say "I can't take it anymore!" and jump out the window on some parts because the slowdown.

SURPRISE
Im not back with the feedback, coz I already have it. Nice of me, Don't you think ?

Awesome Stuff:
-Nice clean visuals, they weren't as clean as those of silver's walls but c'mon.
-Challenging platforming.

Stuff That Needs To Be Send To The Void:
-Lagggggggggg
-Much use of the brush tool.
-Errr, nothing. Move on NAO!

Stuff That Was Strange Yet Awesome:
-I can't take this Section anymore, I'm jumping out of the window.
-The spinning wheels section remind me of The Tree Of Life, but why ?
-Glockenpop FU- (Wasn't sure where to put this.)

The Rating:
:star::star::star::star::star: +<3
Go for that spotlight man.

Solid level, but there's a lot of lag. Try to use sensor switches to reduce lag.2011-06-27 07:20:00

Almost everything is on sensors, actually. The only thing that isn't is the back layer of platforms in the area where you get the boom box -- I didn't want to risk borking the crushers in the front layer.

As I said in the original post, all that lag happened at the end of the design process, when I added the score bubbles. And most of them are glued in place. *shrug*

Edit: Correction -- I found another area that didn't have a sensor, but adding one (and hooking the other one into the back layer I mentioned earlier) didn't seem to affect the lag at all. I'll keep poking around until I get a solution.

I don't mind a bit of Lag, it helps chaining bubbles. 2011-06-27 12:20:00

Speaking of chaining bubbles, I've republished. Found a couple more opportunities to reduce lag, added a couple more short chains, a few hidden emitters, and one more platform at the beginning of the race section.2011-06-28 04:12:00

Will probably redo my feedback.
Not just because you did work on it, but I tend to have better second impressions.
I should probably just play the levels more than once in the bloody first place.

You have the element of Diligence...
Okay I'll stop before I get carried away.
too much time in the Pony thread, I tell you what

Hey, first impressions are important!

Also, I read that Spoiler text in Hank Hill's voice. Not right!

First impressions from me tend to be unfair as I suck at platforming and can get pretty mad at it.

I'm pretty sure I noticed significantly less lag.
Its there but it didn't feel like huge gravity pull anymore.

But I didn't get past the part where the back layer is fenced and there are lots of spikes.
I sucked really bad and retried it a bunch of times then got the winch stuck at the top

That obstacle course felt like something from classic Capcom.

Yeah, I've been thinking about how to prevent that grabby from getting stuck up there. As far as the obstacle itself...

Do not jump until you're going for the switch on the far right. As each platform passes the halfway point going up, just walk off of it to the next platform.

Yeah I thought about trying it that way, I just got impatient and jumped on the last two times before it got stuck.
Still. the level feels very much improved.
Off the top of my head all I can say is that a checkpoint after the winch would solve the problem but would probably require ridiculous editing.
But really I was just not even trying on that part, probably not a problem for too many people.

I wish you luck getting a spotlight.

Your level is great It's the first good level I've played in LBP (I played it for the first time several weeks ago) ! I really liked it, and I still don't understand how you made the guy that jumps into the window Really it's a great level

I think I did it whole the fourth time I tried it ^^

There are two windows: The intact one is attached to a creature brain off camera. The broken one is on a piston that keeps it off camera until the brain is destroyed by a one-shot switch. If a piston moves fast enough, it'll go right through solid objects no problem.2011-07-13 22:08:00

Hey man. Just played your level, bit late to the party I know! Yeah, some great platforming in there. Liked the start with the character in the office, had a chuckle at what was said. Shame about the lag, died a few times due to it, the area where you drag the speaker past spikes. Good stuff though pal, congrats on spotlight!2011-07-21 21:52:00

Jet! You exist! Sorry to hear about the lag-death, at the end of the level, no less.

Doggy -- Don't you like Glockenpop? Way down deep inside? Way, way, way down inside?

I actually like Glockenpop (so much that I named one of my favorite sack characters Gloken) XD. I played this level some time ago and thought it was really fun. The numerous music boxes around the level were an excellent touch and I don't think I've ever seen that before ^^. I'll try to play it again and update this post with better feedback ^^!2011-08-01 05:29:00
