my ps3 has been making a LOT of noise. I have a launch 60gb ps3 and it has been making about as much fan noise as an xbox does. This starts happening after like 15 minutes of it being turned on, and it feels warm on the top right. Should i start shopping for a new ps3?2011-06-25 20:32:00

Make sure the room your Ps3 is in isn't too hot, also you might want to dust it off and make sure it isn't sucking in the dust.2011-06-25 20:43:00

I have a launch 60gb ps3 as well and mine gets that loud when its really hot in my room.

The hotter it is inside the ps3, the stronger the fans blow to cool it down.

Sometimes the ps3 is hotter inside then it should be. Here are some steps you should take to keep it from overheating.

Make sure the ps3 isnt on a surface that gets really hot, like metal or carpet. I think a wood surface would be ur best bet

Make sure the ps3 has a lot of room, dont cram it in a corner or cabinet. Make sure the vents are exposed.

Most importantly make sure its not dusty, use one of those compressed air keyboard cleaners to get out all the dust in it. The dust makes the ps3 ten times hotter and makes it hard for it to vent properly.

If you take these steps and make sure the temperature in your room isnt too hot, then the ps3 should quiet down. Even if it doesnt i dont think its a reason to start looking for a new ps3, but in all honesty, if you still have a launch console then you should always expect to lose it anyday...

hope this helped

Remember to back up as much data as possible, if it does break, you don't want to lose your stuff. 2011-06-25 20:52:00

I heartily agree with Plasmavore. So important it needs to be stated thrice

My beloved Phat died from YLOD a few months ago, and having my save data was probably the only thing that made me accept it. An old system I can lose. Losing months of effort on a project, not so much.

If it sounds like a hairdryer (Or a jet ) Then make sure it's off the ground maybe use books to raise it on the ends. Then put an extra book on the side with the fan so that it's tilting. Mine was an original 60GB (Now 320GB ) and was making super noise. Now, it doesn't
EDIT: My brother also suggested putting a glass of ice beside the fan

Attach external storage and copy saves to it. (LBP will need a profile export first)

This is exactly what happened to me. Except I sent it off to an independent PS3-fixer company instead of Sony.

If you didn't know, Sony wipes all data on your console, and I was stupid and didn't back anything up, meaning if I bought a new console or sent it to Sony to repair, I would have lost all my hard work on OzDust and "All a Dream". This company promised not to delete any saved data unless necessary, so that's why I went with them.
Anyway, this is starting to sound like an infomercial..

Good luck with your PS3, mate! Hope it gets better soon. <3

I asked the guys at Sony center to keep the hard drive. When the PS3 came back, they said that it had somehow gotten damaged They only get damaged if they get dropped, or interact with metal

Don't forget to deactivate your account on the console so you get 1 of the 5 activations for the DLC back.2011-06-28 17:09:00
