How to be a GOOD SPORT in LBP2!

Archive: 20 posts

I thought that this would fit in the tutorials section since it's a HOW TO type thing.

-Just because a level has no plays, doesn’t mean that it is bad. You should always give those levels a chance.

-Don’t dislike a level just because you can. Most people do just because they are either jealous, or BECAUSE THEY CAN! I was disliked recently by someone who had no levels, no hearts, and had pretty awful PSN name.

-Don’t be afraid to give a little feedback. Try to always tell a player in your review what they did good in their level, then say the things they didn’t do as well and maybe give ideas on how to fix it.

-If you chose to dislike a level, write a review and tell the creator way you didn’t like it. It always helps the creator to become a better one if you tell them what they can do to become that ‘better creator’ they want to be.

-If you see that someones thread on LBPCentral in Level Showcase has low views and currently isn't a very active thread, help em' out and put it back on top of the level showcase pages so that it becomes the first thing people see when they check this forum out.

-You don’t always have to ask to do F4F on Forum sites like this. Don’t be shy and leave a comment on a level that you LIKED or a creator’s profile to ask if they are willing to do F4F with you.

The ones I have here are really important. I feel that people don't do this enough in LBP2 so I thought I would put it out there that people need to pay more attention to these simple things.

I agree with pretty much all of this. I actually paste a list of F4F links into a tex document, and speciffically look for low response threads. I also try to take plenty of pictures of levels if they thread doesn't as well as adding in the LBP.me link on some occasions.

I have had people leave me messages saying that they like my feedback style and ask to check out other levels. I have also in turn left PM with people thanking them for any time taken to play and give me feedback. I also thank any post that leaves feedback for me.

The only thing I don't 100% agree with is booing levels... If I don't like a level, but manage to get from one end to the other and the level shows that some thought and effort was put in, I can't boo it. I always try to leave tags and feedback. I do boo levels that are inherently broken/fake etc, but I don't manage to see many of these as I never look in the cool pages and read a level description before playing. Usually you can tell.

Personally I think the best thing for the LBP community is to do their best to play and rate every level posted on this and similar sites. If you post here about your level there is a sting chance that it is at least halfway decent and was created by someone that cares enough to go to the effort of telling others about what they have created.

So many ppl just boo levels out of jealousy. I went through all my levels and looked at all my boos, and EVERY single boo I received cam from somebody with no levels, no hearts, lots of empty copied levels, etc... There needs to be some sort of weighted review system in place, sort of like reputation points on some forums. They already have a system where you can rate reviews, it would be similar to that except in this case you are rating the reviewer, and it helps determine how seriously they're reviews on other levels are taken. That way if someone were to just go around booing everyone for no reason, at least their votes wouldnt count that much because nobody else thinks they're reviews are worthwhile.

It's a stretch I know, but something needs to be done about the ranking and search system in LBP, it's like anarchy, and the majority wins. In our case, the majority is mostly little kids who aren't very good at create mode, and often give bad ratings to ppl who work hard on their levels.

yea! u show em giggle! maybe we should publish a well put together level about this problem and then lol at all the boos and bad reviews on it. like a trick into them admitting they do it by telling people and them rating it badly because of this. that sure would show them.

Maybe there could be an option before you publish a level to require players to write a review. That way, the people that are jealous will be easy to spot since they'll have a cruddy review.

Check out my levels when you get the chance. You won't be disappointed! I hope...JK! I'm sure you won't!

I agree with all the posts above. Its not right for someone to boo you just because they are jelous. I havr put lots of effort into my levels which are really good and you always get some people who boo your level because they get bad reviews so they take it out on you. There shoupd be an option so that if someone boos your leveo then they have to write a review on what would make it better.
Constructive critisism is the key to help creators get better at creating.

Sorry for my spelling. I'm on my phone. Play my levels and watch my skate video in my comment that I made on LBP 2

I play a lot of levels and usually try to leave a few kind words. I rarely boo it. I played a level the other day that was completely trash, just completely awful. Someone left a review that the guy should "probably quit this game, or all games, no you should quit life" I thought that was a little uncalled for. You never know who is on the other end of the line and they may be depressed and your remark was just the last straw and they "quit life" because of remarks such as those.

I got several boos from people with no levels and I'm thinking, "you know what? My level my not be the best out there or heck, not even mediocre, but at least I have a level and am trying. I'm learning more everyday and maybe one day (probably when LBP 6 is out) i'll be a great creator. But you, you have no levels whatsoever and go around booing everything you play." I need to stop.

I can't stand when ppl just boo just because it makes them feel better. I will boo a level of it looks like they put no effort into it, but I always give a Yay for effort, because there are too many ppl who just don't care to try anymore.2011-07-02 23:24:00

RIGHT. wait.........lets think about this through the medium of creative editing and music. ( anyone up for making a video using creative editing and music? you know, like they do at an election or like the American express advert) Honesty, if we took lbpc arguments into surreal animations/ lbp machinima then this would be the most entertaining lbp fan site ever.................................. ooh i went off on one. sorry everyone! continue.2011-07-03 22:08:00

For some of them I KNOW it does. It works that way everywhere else too, it makes ppl feel good to say movies and tv shows suck, can you imagine how many crappy ratings some of these ppl would give if we put them in a critic position?

Great thread. I am stricter with my critism for levels that have a lot of plays compared to new levels. Even if the new level isn't that good, I hardly ever give boos because I don't want to discourage them from making more. As long as it shows effort.

I just realized this thread is pretty old heh... we always could be reminded to be a good sport though.

There is only one problem with your little tutorial 99.9 % percent of people when you tell them or try to explain to them what is wrong with their level they either start saying hateful remarks by spamming your levels/ profile because they created the level that it is perfect and there is nothing wrong with it. Some may take advice but most do not as constructive criticism eludes them or they think your just trashing their perfect level when your just trying to help them so I have given up trying to help n00bs who think that they are perfect and their cruddy levels that could only be improved by a stick of dynamite.

Why not negative tags? Like "unfinished", "empty" or "glitchy" (the bad type ). You'll still have haters, but instead of a boo you know why somebody didn't like it.2011-08-25 01:59:00
