How to make a level interesting!

Archive: 16 posts

How to make a level really awesome and interesting you must:

-Pick a attractive title & Project ( Try to find something that no one made before )
-Make the level realistic, add cool design and decoration
-Surprise us, add something in the level that we haven't seen anywhere esle in LittleBigPlanet
-Make your own Menu
-Add a story to the level
-Make your own music ( if needed because the soundtrack from the game are good too in some level) but making your own make it unique
(Optional)-Make it RPG? to make the story more alive if your controlling a specific character.
-Take your time to do it.( When you making a level it's important to make each part of it entirely well made. EX: if in a part you put a lots of cool decoration and in a other part of the level you got lazy and didn't do much well that will affect you result )

I think that's all, if you have all of them well i guess your level is PERFECT! but don't forget to share it here on LittleBigPlanetCentral!

not sure if this goes in tutorials... I guess it is a tutorial... But yeah. I agree with all these except the RPG part. RPG is a genre of game, and I think what you are trying to say is more along the lines of have a character driven story, so players care if the playable bot or whatever dies.2011-06-24 06:28:00

Yea agree, RPG is optional then ( it only depend on the theme of the level right? )2011-06-24 06:29:00

well no, an RPG generally has many customisable options for the player, and often uses custom made characters. Usually includes a leveling up system aswell. That's an RPG. There are lots of themed RPGs. Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Dungeon Siege, World of Warcraft, and so on are RPGs. RPGs all basically come from the basic ideas of table top gaming. DnD is the most popular source material for RPG games, thats why so many are set in medieval times.2011-06-24 06:33:00

Not those kind of RPG i meant to say your controlling for example a police officer (sackboy) that's why i said to make the story more alive.

EDIT: RPG = Role Playing Game do not require level up system even if basically they do but not require. back to the police officer example: Your role is to protect the city and your playing it on the level.

Its just that the term RPG is used so loosely these days. I am an avid RPG gamer, and I even have my DnD books and dice laying all around so I just like to clear it up when people use the term.2011-06-24 06:55:00

This is all common knowledge. You forgot to tell us how to do it. That is what tutorials are for.

Yes. You can make a menu easily with no sackbots. I dont even see why you would need sackbots to make a menu at all...2011-06-24 23:56:00

I'm just curious, how do you make a menu WITH a sackbot?
To end this random subject:
First of all making a menu using a sackbot to control everything isn't a good way because there is more ways to do it more simple.
With a sackbot:
There is 2 controlinator:
First one you control it
Second one, sackbot will:
The first controlinator that you control, control the sackbot.
The second one control the menu by the sackbot controlled by you.
For example if you press R1, a emitter will spawn sackbot will pop up and enter the menu controlinator and press R1 ( you must record yourself entering a controlinator and pressing R1 with the sackbot).
Meh you must do that for every control and well that's complicated & long to do for nothing.

Back to the main thread subject please!

This is all pretty redundant information. Youre telling everyone what they already know, without giving advice and tips on how to do it. To make it shorter, Ive written up a different guide thats just as useful:

To make a good level, make a really good level, and publish it.

This is a fundamentally non-tutorial tutorial really. Tutorials are usually supposed to hold some kind of specific information pertaining to a (usually widely) applicable concept.2011-07-03 19:29:00
