Total Execution: The Future is Now

Archive: 31 posts

Hola guys,

I finished up with this level I've been working on for a long time now. I was just hoping I could get some feedback and opinion on it because I really want to improve my "skills".

Total Execution: The Future is Now is about a secret agent (type of guy) who works for a mayor of a future city who eventually gets tied up in the plot of some evil children. I had the idea for the story a reeeally long time ago and wanted to write it as a comedy/drama type thing but I was like 12 so I lost interest (the reason I'm telling you is that this story is deep and will possibly inspire you to desire more in life)

Anyways, thanks for the help

******After a while of working and dealing with other issues, I have finally completed the major update to the dream sequence, and added a menu screen. Hopefully this allows easier play and it also lets you skip the introduction. Thanks for your patience and all those who have supported me and this level.******

Here are some pictures...

Maybe too much... But I just want to try to please your eyes

This is the first part in hopefully a two part saga-type thing. In this first saga I'm focusing a little more on introducing the story. More like an interactive film. The next part will feature much more platforming and gaming.

Thanks again!

Thanks!

And yes, kind of a lot. But I thought it would be necessary to get the whole feel of how big the city's supposed to be.

I found this level on newest levels, and when I first played it was pretty good. It looked nice, the dialogue and music was amazing, and it was a good length. I had frowned the level at first because at the part just before the party begins, I didn't know I had to wait, and nothing was happening. So I left the level. You then asked me what I didn't like about your level ( I love when creators ask what's wrong with there level, it shows they want to improve). So I went and played it again. This time I played it again and waited a bit longer at that part, then something happened. Another glitch happened just after you see the moon and it fades to black; the level link didn't work. I told you this and you fixed it (thanks for updating it) I played it again and it worked fine.

A couple of things to still improve on:

1) In the driving part there is no reverse, which means it can be fairly easy to get stuck. It was also a bit long and boring. Maybe make the car go faster, or have something else to do while you're driving around. It was also sometimes hard to see my vehicle and know which direction I was facing, because theres something in the thin layer above the vehicle. It would be better if there was arrows to show what direction to go, because sometimes it's hard to know where to go.

2) I have already said one part where I had quit because nothing was happening and there was nothing to do, and I didn't know I had to wait. There were other points in the level that this happened again. Such as right after your car gets taken away, or when you're trapped in the vehicle with the kids.

3) The part where you're dreaming was hard to tell that it was a dream. This really confused me when I first saw it. I didn't follow what was happening. I didn't figure out that it was a dream. Maybe make it foggy, or somehow make it more obvious that you're dreaming. In the dream I really didn't like the "raining money" part, where you're in a square with a bunch of bounce pads. It just looked and felt like no time was taken in making it. Maybe make the background a bit more creative and original. Or do other things with the visuals the make it look purty. The constant laughter was also quite annoying. This part would be better if it was shorter.

I'm trying to be really picky because you seem to be the kind of creator who wants to be the best they can be, and always want to improve. I just want to help you with this and help you to make your levels perfect. It would've been nice if I had known when I first played this level that it was on LBPC, so I wouldn't have had to post a super long review and 4 comments. Maybe put it in the description ( I might have missed it )

I love to see good levels on the newest levels page, and creators that try really hard to improve.

I'll be back for more,

Yea... Sorry about that. Maybe I can add things to do while you wait. I just wanted to make it feel like they weren't waiting for you, but I can see the problem.

lol thanks for this reassurance. That part is kind of embarrassing.. I shot for a really elaborate scene I thought of in my mind but it wouldn't materialize. But with this you reminded me to get working on making that look like I didn't spend 5 minutes on it..

Thanks. Its nice to know some there is someone looking for people trying to get off the ground. I appreciate it

Just played it. I very much like the visuals. They may not have been the most intricate, but the overall theme more than makes up for it. Speaking of which, the story was rather intriguing, and I look forward to seeing how it develops. There were a few problems though. For one, the speech bubbles went away to fast during cutscenes, and the truck that brings the player to the kids' base operations moved way to slowly. Also, some of the pathways could use some work when the player is actual in control. I found myself getting stuck on scenery.

Loved the LoZ Easter egg.

Anyways, for F4F I'd appreciate it if you would play A Nucleotrosity. Just click the big pink "IT" in my signature.

Hi. I've just played your multi-level:

Pros:
- The intro scenes of the city are so good. I liked the skyline in gray tones!
- The 3rd part (floating cars) is fun and original. You can change the height position to avoid other cars.

Cons:
- The intro (first "level") is too long.
- The second part (second "level") is quite simple... there's nothing to do.
- The 4h part there is quite nothing to do again.

Ideas:
- Make cars faster.
- Add bubble-points to the car part.
- Add bubble-points to the big jumping-walls floating square.

Sorry if I am too critical hehehe ^^

Please leave me feedback at my level https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=56955-Math-Millionaire-Quiz

I'll check out your level when I get back to my ps3

Thanks for the tips!
I made several gears to the cars in an update where normal driving is R1 and faster is just X, but it's my fault for not pointing that out in the level.

Good idea with the bubbles, It can help show the way you're supposed to go.

And what exactly do you mean jumping walls? Sorry

And No need to be sorry, I enjoy the criticism because it helps me make it better.

I mean the part where there is a big square, there is no gravity and the walls are all made of jumping platforms.

Thank you for your comment I also like the criticism.

Oooh yea that.
lol I'm having troubles with that "part"
I'm thinking about totally redoing the dream sequence so it's way more fun to actually play and not just pretty to look at.

And nice to know, I'll write a review of your level when I get back

I got back to my PS3 today so I'm working on redoing the entire adventure level (kind of) so it's more playable. I'll also play those F4F levels.

Hey there just played it tonight and thought it was an overall interresting experience.

I liked the visuals and the look of the city it really felt like a neaon future world. The lighting was done well though i did have a bit of trouble getting stuck on the ground at the lift. Maybe you could add a sound or something to indicate that the lift is about to go up or down as it took me a while standiing there and moving about before it went up. I did like the first hallway you walk in at the beginning it looked really good.'
I really liked the crazy kids with the boxes over ttheir heads and their shields very nice.
I found the intro to the level to be a little long myself as certain scenes like the part where it says total execution seem to last just a few secs too long. I would maybe suggest a way to skip the whole intro or making the second part able to be unlocked and played after the first has been won as people wishing to replay might not want to sit through the whole intro and party bit again.

I couldn't get any further than the second part because the level link was locked. I don't know if i missed something or if it was under construction but i couldn't proceed. If you could fix this i will continue then finish this review.

Okay so...

This situation has and is been way over my comprehension levels. The problem I'm facing I have no idea how to fix, but the good news is the entire level IS playable. To add onto the good news, I totally refurbished the final part of the level. I redid the dream sequence to make it way more enjoyable and playable. I added more "platforming" style game play and more cinematics. I also quickened a lot of the cutscenes (hopefully in a more subtle way).

So I made an entirely new PSN user to test out the broken level link and it worked. HOWEVER the problem is it doesn't show up in search. You have to go to my Earth directly and look where the Pacific ocean is. I'm really sorry about this, but I'm trying to figure out what's happening. Please don't let the longer process of getting to the level "deter" you away.

Thanks to all who have played and are going to play my level, I appreciate it.

I have followed this level since finding it on the newest levels page, and I really want this to become a fanatastic level, and I can see that you really want this as well. I really like creators like this, it's people like this that make the community great. I haven't been looking too much into the updates on this level lately, but I see that you have done some major updates, and I'm really excited to play this again and see what has improved and what still needs improving. Sadly I cannot play this level again for another week and a half , as I am away on vacation.
When I get back you can expect another post from me here.
I do have a suggestion for you though. That is that I can see plenty of minor and a few major flaws in your level. It looks like it was only tested by you. It is very important to get other people's opinions before you publish it, and this isn't just in creating. It's the same for writing, or even engineering. If you have done this, than you either don't have enough people criticizing your level, or you have the wrong people (no offense). If you need a tester for other levels of yours than I'd love to help

Ok i just played again and first up amazing title screen i really like this new improvement.

The streets level was very nice i liked the cars and the look of the street. I would strongly suggest that you make the controlinator fo the car automatically enter as soon as the player spawns as at first i was wondering what to do. Also you need to tell people how to control the car because when you cant see it at first you have no idea whats going on. Also a zoomed out camera would really be good.
The traffic and traffic lights was done really well this was the best level in the series i thought so good work.

The part where you get kidnapped and are being transported in a truck was maybe a little to slow. You might want to speed the truck up a bit. Also because it was made out of cardboard i didn't realise i was in a truck at first.

The part with the clouds was a little hard i think maybe the jump pads should be a little stronger. Also i kept constantly getting hit by the eleectric rain as the camera angles kept changing and i couldn't see them coming. Very frustraiting.

Overall very good. I liked the look and feel of it as it was different to most levels i have played.

@BobtheYoungFish
Thanks sooo much for the feedback and support you've been giving. It really helps me want to move forward and improve.
I agree with what you ended with. I Think I should have gotten testers so I didnt have to keep going back and messing up the level links. Looking back it was one of those things I know would have been smarter.
And I would really appreciate that, thanks.

@Lordwarblade
Thanks for the update input. You're a great help too and I'll work on the clouds and driving sequence.

This past week I've been working on the second part, feeling that the first part is pretty solid now in terms of updates...

If anyone's playing and finds there needs to be something added or something, please let me know

In the mean time, here's a neat picture

I haven't played this in forever!! And it's definitily way better than it was at first. I also thought the first part was pretty solid, but the part where it says the title is still too long. In the second part I still feel like the waiting is a bit annoying. Maybe somebody tells you that the party will start in a bit? When the party starts I think there could be more flashing and colourfull lights. The elevator in this part is also a bit gimmicky. Once the kids come there could be more things that are destroyed. Just under the teleporter, when you're leaving, theres a rectangular hole in the floor and it bugs me that it's there. Otherwise I enjoyed this part.
I thought that the street part was really good, but all of the controls should be displayed, and you should automatically enter. I also think there should be score bubbles showing you where to go. When you're in the car it seems way too dragged out. Things should be happening a lot quicker. The dream part was very nice, especially the beginning. The grappling hook part of it was a bit long.

That is all I can think of right now and those are are mostly just the bad things about it, I'm too lazy to put all the good things, but there are just as many good as bad.

Thanks tons, Bobtheyoungfish. I don't mind if it's good or bad points, as long as someone still helping me out in any way.
I've been working on the sequel and another project but with this review I know what I can still do to make the first better.

Let me try to make this organized
1. Title still too long
2. Waiting for Party to start too long
3. Better party atmosphere
4. Fix the elevator (I know what I can do now)
5. Fix the holes
6. More destruction
7. Controls displayed while driving, automatically enter
8. Faster 3rd level events

Thanks again, this will give me a lot to do! I'm thinking I'll add a thanks to you in the description if I haven't already.

Sorry I've have the cliched excuse of have a lot of school stuff to do so lately I've been "busy" with that.

But when I do get free time (like now) I'll work on updating this level before I really get started making the next part. In the mean time, I've been really doing a "major" redo to the driving sequence because I realized how sloppy and lazy it looks. When you're driving through a city the windows of a skyscraper aren't smaller than you, and the skyscraper sizes are like the width of your car so that is very unbelievable.

To update this, I have a list of changes:
-Larger, totally distinct buildings (scaled life like)
-Maybe Mario Kart Wii-y driving scheme (?)
-Animated billboards
-I might have to downgrade the number of cpu drivers because of the thermo but If I do I'll try to make it go with the story.

Anyways I've finished the main road so here's a bit of it (all of the billboards are animated, just not here obviously)

Ok, after a long time, I've played this again.
Most of the menu options don't work, the play option has barely ever worked. When it doesn't work it will just do nothing...so I don't actually know for sure if it really isn't working. The other options usually don't work either
My suggestion is to cram as much as you possibly can into a single level, using various tricks used to keep the thermo low. And if absolutly neccesary then split it into two. The only level I could get to work was the party one. The visuals need to be better, more destruction and more party lights It would probably be better if there was something to do while waiting for the party to start, even something really simple.
The rest of the level I didn't get to play because of failing-to-work level links
Earlier today, I played your Revamped Street Level and it is way better then the original. I really like the visuals. The way it looks like you're really high up, and there are lots of buildings above and below you. The street itself was kinda bland though, maybe a yellow dotted line down the middle? That's about it for the visuals.
It would be nice to have a line of score bubbles (or something that gives you points) to show you the direction to go, and also for something to do other then just driving.
The only glitch I encountered was at the begining. I couldn't get out of the "garage" or whatever you're in, until I went in random directions for a bit.
A couple of other minor things are that, it would probably be better to make them automatically enter the cars, and the voice instructions were kind of hard to understand. Text IMO would be easier to get.

I also have finally published a level YAY
and I would appreciate some F4F on it:
