Project Shipwreck (Working Title)

Archive: 17 posts

Alright, here is what I am going for.

- Underwater scuba diving.
- An old Destroyer shipwreck.
- Metal Gear style security card system.

I have finished the basic ship layout and my thermometer is surprisingly low. Given that, I might make a sub, too.

All I need now is a story. Why are you going down here?

1) For fun.
2) Investigation.
3) Treasure hunt.

For fun seems lame. Investigation or Treasure Hunt seems more exciting to me.

You and a local group of deep sea divers heard of an ancient myth, blah blah blah blah, so you decide to take the job and investigate. 2008-12-12 01:01:00

That's pretty much the standard of the genre, so go for it!

Oh, and throw a Whaaaaaaaaale somewhere in there >_<.

Free chicks.Eh?

This is a lot of work lol. I'm slowly filling up the ship with tables, chairs, stairs, engines, gears, pipes, etc.

I'm still trying to think of puzzles and such that is done with a jet pack. What puzzle can I create that gives the player a security card?

Why the player is going down to the sub-- free chicks.

Tongue-in-cheek humor here. I has plenty.

There are a few jet pack obstacle options that I know of.

One is to have a narrow passage and put deadly gas in it, making it look like murky water. Maybe oil has leaked out or some chemical if you need a reason for it to be there.

Another is to have some sort of crushing system, with things going up and down (or left and right - you aren't bound to left/right mechanics with the jetpack). You could say the engine is still active or something if you want a reason for it.

Another is the maneuvering of pick up explosives, as seen in the MM Boom Town level. That always felt cheap to me, though. Having a player pick up and maneuver something that can kill them so easily always seems like a bad idea to me. But you could be clearing rubble or something like that, hence the explosives.

Finally, you can use a jetpack to allow the player to pick up and assemble something, kind of like a jigsaw puzzle. You might be reassembling the hull or trying to rebuild an important picture which provides a clue.

Hopefully those are a few ideas, all of which can point to getting a security card.

Idea:

A Unidentified Object has crash landed in the ocean and you are heading the investigation to discover what it is. You are the third country, sent by their respective governments, to find whats inside and if it holds any importance. The previous 2 crews (one from France, the other from Canada ) have been trapped aboard the vessel and have contracted a virus/disease/whatever, and for some unknown reason you are immune.

I could go on and on, but just an idea. You could have a lot of fun with it, having victims from France and Canada along the way, or whatever nationalities you want. Also a lot of wiggle room with this plot to incorporate crazy enemies/devices.

You have to try to manuver to the bridge of the destroyer and fight a miniboss before you get it.Maybe a squid

UPDATE

Oh yeah, you know how I said I wouldn't be updating Shipwreck Test? Well, that was before Mm put in the Save as... option so I thought I would go ahead and publish what I have so far. It's not much as most of the rooms are empty, but it still looks pretty.

Ok, I'm going to go check it now brb.

Just went to it. First things first, I wasn't able to read the text, because since the submarine was descending, the text would disappear. I only got to read the first one, but I doubt I'm missing anything.

Second, wtf where was I suppose to go? It took me several minutes to find out I just had to go in a south east direction. Following the lights I suppose.

As for the mood, it was very good. I loved the darkness and eerieness you gave to the level. What you have so far is great, the beds, the lights, that one cog spinning and spinning... Gotta love cogs...

One thing though, was the ship suppose to erupt into blashphemy of epicness that doesn't even make sense through a water cage of spikes and fire pits and electric barrels when I flip the switch? Or did it break on me?

Overall, I'm diggin the feel to it. Can't say anything else as there wasn't really much to do.

Second, wtf where was I suppose to go? It took me several minutes to find out I just had to go in a south east direction. Following the lights I suppose. The text says it is to the southwest, but I also plan to have other indicators and maybe some light platforming until the player gets to the ship. I'm trying to finish the ship first before adding anything extra.

One thing though, was the ship suppose to erupt into blashphemy of epicness that doesn't even make sense through a water cage of spikes and fire pits and electric barrels when I flip the switch? Or did it break on me?The switch in the front? Yeah, I put that there because I want the front half of the ship to break at some point in the level. It's pretty awesome though.

Overall, I'm diggin the feel to it. Can't say anything else as there wasn't really much to do.I told ya. All my time was just to build that freaking thing lol. It's taken up half of my thermometer already.

Yeah, my current level hasn't even began the platforming, and I'm already half in my thermometer, at least I've used basically all the materials I'll need so it's going to go pretty slow now, hopefully the same for you.2008-12-23 08:34:00
