Anyone ever finish a "recreation"?

I see a lot of demos for people recreating games (like mario 1-1, a zelda temple and so on) but has anyone ever recreated everything or has everyone just got bored after making the demo. I really wana see and try out any completed recreations people have2011-06-23 03:39:00

Most levels are based off actual games as far as I can tell. They're either inspired by or made with ideas from the games.

The one I'm making now could be seen as a recreation of "Endless War" (flash game), but with a slight MGS twist. Making it point for point is against what creating in LBP is all about anyway.

That said, there are some recreations of parts of levels, but I'm pretty sure you're right that most people tend to just stop after a single one.

Hmmm I dunno, FF 7 is pretty long lol It could take years to remake everything, but i guess its gonna go as long as she is still interested in making it.

FF9 is better in my opinion... not that anyone asked... But yes, LBP, (and all games) is derivative of some other game in one way or another. I mean, even the basic mechanics of LBP cant escape being compared to SMB, but that is because nintendo perfected the platformer, and the gaming world followed suit.2011-06-23 16:05:00

I dont see the point of exact recreations tho, even if they are cool to see. I mean, wouldnt you rather invent, and innovate?2011-06-23 16:22:00

Yea im just helping out--i feel a little selfish just having my own project. Of course my personal rpg is my own original idea, i dont really like remakes that much. Its way more interesting and fun making something entirely new.

Oh and yea, FF 9 is one of the best rpgs of all time!

YES! Thankyou Poorjack!
Lol I have seen so many side scrolling Zelda remakes XD Its so stupid too because most Zelda games are top down. Only 1 is side scrolling and thats why everyone hates it, then the newer ones are 3rd person... Anyways this lack of good Zelda tributes makes me want to make one with its own unique story.. in the Zelda universe.. so i guess it wouldn't be a remake :/ but still full of references, music and a similar gameplay mechanic.. if i ever get around to it...

i agree with this. I still to this day don't fully understand why people insist on recreating games in littlebigplanet instead of making their own. I guess because it is easier than coming up with your own idea and if you do it well, you're guaranteed to get plays because you've got a famous franchise associated with your level and people eat that stuff up.

I was actually asking about this on twitter the one day, and someone said this to me concerning remake levels:
When you start out playing guitar, you don't write your own stuff right away. You play Beatles covers until you get good enough, and then you use that knowledge to do your own thing...

So I guess I can see it that way, but I'd still prefer to see original levels rather than remakes.

Edit: And believe me, I've seen some good remakes. I'm not knocking them at all if that is your thing. ^_^

I think levels based on movies can be fun... as long as it isn't like... a scrolling gallery of magic mouths. If it has fun gameplay, and is SET IN UNIVERSE. but is not a complete recreation, it can be an amazing and entertaining fan fic. In my opinion, to be one of the greats tho... Like Morgana, or Jackofcourse, or Jump_button, you have to invent.2011-06-23 23:50:00
