Where do you start your levels?

Archive: 11 posts

Just a simple question I've been wondering, where in a blank level do you start your levels (i.e Where's the entrance gate)?

I always start mine by eyeballing where the center is, then going up to the top about 40 grid blocks down from the edge. I suppose it could also depend on the type of level as well.

It's best to start as high as possible while leaving space for where your level goes up. You never want to see the floor of the background on your levels.2011-06-23 02:49:00

Depends on..

What background I'm using
Which direction the players will go

But even so, I usually start in the lower left hand side. But a little higher so no matter what I do, the bottom of the level will not be visible. That is a turn off :kz:

Interesting. I agree that no matter what, the level borders should not show. Like Silver, I commonly build my levels down since there's not as many ways to get up as there are down (not as many easy ones). I also tend to flow my levels to the right, while naturally only reversing to the left if I think of it, otherwise my level reads like a paper...except if it was in Chinese.

I start as high as I can but I always seem to hit the floor before the scoreboard.

Weird.

I start from the left because I'm too lazy to move the checkpoint all the way to the right.

I usually start near the top left hand side of the level. I like to make the level go downwards.2011-06-23 04:40:00

i start in the middle of the left side a few screen widths from the wall so you can move up, down and right as much as you need.
but i guess you could just use velcro's method of shooting sackboy at high speeds where ever he needs to be

I start on the right hand side because I'm different

Haha naah I don't really, I tend to start where everyone else does - up a bit and right a bit from the original place

I, too, like to move the starting point up and to the right from where it is by default to get the level boundaries off screen. I do have one that uses the bottom of the level as the ground, but it's only half done. How far I move the entrance depends on what the plan is for the level. My levels generally go left to right and either up or down.2011-06-23 11:03:00
