More playable players in one game lobby!

Archive: 17 posts

I know that 4 players is quite alot... but if it would be possible for 5 or 6 players, it would be pretty awesome! I mean, if there's not enough space or something, why not make the pod bigger? Versus levels wil work out just fine. Co-op (same camera) might be a bit of problem (if the camera is small enough that is) but versus levels would be awesome, 6 players in versus, like: 3 vs 3 team deatmatch. now wouldnt that be neat! What do you think community, is this a good idea?2011-06-21 17:00:00

One word: LAG

LBP can already barley stand 4 players, having a 5th or 6th player will result into "Lag Hell".

But the bigger pod is a must.

Actually the 'lag' might not be so true. I've played with 4 players hundreds of times, and not laggy at all... well for some people it can be laggy, if your internet connection is bad that is. But i'm sure for most people it cant be laggy. I mean 6 players is all. So even if its laggy, it cannot really be 'lag hell' levels are big enough for that many, and pod would be the only thing needed to make bigger. 2011-06-21 20:57:00

What if they figured out how to implement a multiroom pod? Also, how about allowing online players to each get their own camera? Everybody gets a unique screen in create mode, so why force them together in play mode? Granted, there are times when the off screen time limit is handy to make sure players don't get lost, but for levels where each player getting their own camera would be useful, it'd be a nice option. Maybe something you can tweak in the Tools menu like Cooperative/Versus/Cutscene? In addition to Shared and Separate Screens, you can select Split Screen for that old school multiplayer feel. And perhaps a new Global Camera Object for tweaking the defualt camera settings. That might even be more useful than the standard Game Camera.2011-06-21 21:03:00

Actually, having 4 players does not lag much. The lag you are talking about is merely your internet connection. After the server update, the lag has been a lot easier to manage, almost unnoticeable. The other lag is your FPS. Having complex and/or large levels will affect your framerate greatly. Adding another one or two players will not affect the frame rate severely. LBP can definitely support 8 players in a single map, however, with optimized networking and UI changes.2011-06-21 23:47:00

I think having a chat room kind of thing, with a capacity of say 8-10 players would be pretty awesome. Basically just a bigger pod where people can gather and talk and whatever, I imagine the lag wouldn't be so bad if you're only limited to the relatively small area.2011-06-22 12:39:00

Doesn't each player get their own camera in Versus mode?

Although it would be great if there was a mode like Co-Op but with separate cameras, but picture the MMO levels...

It could be an option in the global modifier thingy! Like you hit a switch and everyone gets their own cameras, then hit another switch further on and the cameras join up again. Could get a bit messy if you don't use it properly, like letting the players join up the cameras without gathering everyone up first, but there's gameplay in that too!

i like this idea. lol ive told my friend(that plays lbp) about this and he looked at me funny.
so you know the backrounds for levels right? like the cosmos, davinci's hideout, the gardens...
well what if it was all 3d and you could join a chat room in one of the level backrounds. like you know, run around, chat with friends, maybe even some mini games if you want. you would be able to take up to 5 stickers with you and the costume your wearing. (to reduce lag) i guess it could be up to maybe 6 or 8 players? so the more dlc packs you buy, the more mini games and chat rooms you have. you would be able to search through them with kind of a waiting list saying : "gardens chat room 1 (3/8)" and so on. its just that i would love to be able to talk to many ppl at once, for maybe like a big level series or something. *shrug* just me gibbering on about gibberishness. i know it isn't really "LBP" like, but meh whatevz, just spiting out stuff to think on.

CRAZY IDEA: How about 12 players? TEAM DEATHMATCH! YAYS! Hey! Ive got the only team deathmatch game in all of LBP! But since there is the 4 player limit its only 2 on 2 matches :/ .. If more players could work it would be nice but hog up thermo... Especially with advanced characters with tons of emiters... Also 5+ players on voice chat would be a nightmare... and most people play solo or with 1 other and rarely play 4 players.. So it would probably be more trouble than its worth.. Im all for a setting for everyone having their own cameras in co-op though.2011-06-25 08:39:00

Maybe if they improve their server's a bit more, they could implement it. Also, I like the idea of a tweak-able split screen option for shared PS3's. Also, if this were added, they would need to have a tweak-able setting for levels so where you can only accept a certain amount of players. That would help with levels that can only support a certain amount of players. (Like top-down levels, certain Versus levels, 1 Player levels)2011-06-25 16:57:00

That sounds good. Adjustable multiplayer camera settings and player count settings. I'll take that with the next Creator Pack.2011-06-27 08:23:00
