Online servers!

Archive: 7 posts

I have had this idea in mind for quite a while, what if there were servers in LBP2 that you could leave or join, that nobody "hosts" and you could play with a bunch of other people!

Features:
-Normal players can't kick others
-Up to either 20-50 people a server ( i dunno lol )
-Join and invite your friends in servers
-Play games online with out being able to be rejected to join people
-Moderators host servers ( or whoever would do it )
-3 options when playing games: play on my own/join server/join us! (Join server is new one)
Also, what if we could have up to 10 people in create mode and 10 people in pod at once!

LBP2 is a big game, it needs this stuff!

Advantages:
-Giant team wars like in paintball, basketball, or blue vs. red, etc.
-Community gatherings
-Play with lots of new people and meet new friends
-PARTYS!!!!!
-Giant levels for giant amount of people!

Also as far as spawning and re-spawning go, when you die, you re-spawn, you don't have to wait for everyone else in the server to die! ( or that could be an option )

And if someone finishes the level, you don't follow them out of the level, everyone can finish at their own pace (not having to be on the same screen at once) But if it's your friend and they are in the same server as you and they finish the level before you and they are leaving to their pod you could ask if you want to follow them.

Well guys, what do you think?

As fun as that would be, I bet it would crash instantly.2011-06-20 02:17:00

Actually not, how do you think MAG works? He means dedicated servers, all processing would be taken by much more powerful server,. Thru something like that would require restructirising whole game So no

Reason why LBP lags so much if fact that it uses P2P conectivity, it means that your console becomes a server and not only busy with rendering the game but also handling network game session, not to mention this solution is very sensitive to upload bandwidth of host, which in home ISPs is very limited (so you won't be able to use it for servers). Dedicated server in other hand act only as a host (it's not a player) and handles gameplay processing too (logic, how players move), consoles sends input and server sending game state back. The whole game happens on server so you console don't need to handle gameplay processing which free processing power, and server don't need to render anything so it allows to handle more players at once. But again implementing such idea is like change idea of how game is made.

Well guys, what do you think?

- Now first of you're asking ot be able to play on your own without being able to reject others, please elaborate.

- You want no one to host but you also want someone to host, please elaborate as well.

Giant levels may not lag up online but will lag up locally, a full level will lag offline or online as it is, so Level size would have to remain around the same.
Unless its something like the level is the lobby, or that its not saved locally, but everything made in servers is completly online, or something like that, you know what I mean.)

- As for many being able to play at their own pace not in the same screen, that really wouldn't work, as levels are often made to collapse or change mid-level allowing people not to return or advance if they're behind, so this would break many levels.
Unless only levels made in that server are playable on the server, I don't really see this happening.

- 10 people on pod, well even tho not a big issue, it would be rather overcrowded, 4 people can already over take the space of a pod well enough, imagine 10 people talking at once either on chat or by voice, or going around with their poppits here and there, doing whatnot, could get kinda annoying more than fun.
Maybe not a pod, but a different kinda lobby or central meeting point for everyone in the server, separated by areas in itself, so people on an area can't hear people on the other, so to be able to have different conversations at the same time.

I actually don't dislike the idea, it just needs polishing some, but overall its not bad.

Silverlion you also not get it he means dedicated servers, game happens on the server not your console.

Because on dedicated servers there no host players, there only admins of the server

- You want no one to host but you also want someone to host, please elaborate as well.

Because technically he is not hosting it, but he own and maintain a server

You dedicated levels means that level is mounted on the server, it would need to be specialized level

It would not have pod at all, you would join server, parties could stay in number of 4 players.

And you need to think out of hte box for at least once a while because dedicated server is complite diffrent way of game session. If you still not understand it, go see Quake Live and you may understand hoe dedicated servers works

Dedicated servers = no reject
Play on my own is if you don't want to join a server, but still play with others.
Elaborated.
