The Create side of the game..

Archive: 10 posts

morning all...

Is anyone else like me where they seem to spend more time creating levels and seeing whats possible than playing the game normally. I suppose this game is different to others in that the 'create' side of it is seen alongside playing the story mode/online levels but I seem to enjoy getting my motor bolts working as I want them and levels doing what I want more than completing levels...

anyone else the same?

Complete opposite. I pretty much spend no time in the Create zone, because I can't. I can't make anything I'm happy with. Which sucks because I know I'm missing out on a huge part of the game.2008-12-11 10:09:00

yeah I was like that when i was on the Beta, I just couldn't get to grips with the tools and everything I built just kept falling over all the time, then i spent more time on the tutorials some of which I've had to watch quite a few times to get how to use various items and I just started getting the hang of things...

Well, from my old high school hobby of film creating/producing/directing/special effects building, I really love the create side of LBP. As someone who appreciates complex logic, I just love how you can do very, very complex systems if you understand the system well.

It does take a long time to learn the basics though, and even longer to grasp the deeper aspects, at least for me. I'd say 10-20 hours to learn the create engine, and approximately 40-60 hours now to release my first fully fledged level at a bug free state.

Certainly it was frustrating at some times in certain points, and it was not perfectly smooth or trouble free, but overall I really enjoyed it, and still do.

I'm not really an expert platformer though. I still haven't passed the bunker yet, and some of the more punishing story levels that require high levels of in game precision, like the wedding reception and boom town took me ages to pass.

So yeah, I certainly spend more time in create than in play. It is cool though exploring other people's creations though. That's why I love this game in general. So much to do.

I go back and forth. If I have a level I'm working on I'll spend all my time creating... but then I'll play for a while before going back into create to start something else.2008-12-11 14:13:00

I find it helps when creating to go look at other level created for some inspiration and also just to get a break from your level so you can come back to it with fresh eyes!2008-12-11 14:27:00

Yeah I'm the same. I create loads, although I see the point of Valo.2008-12-11 20:37:00

Yeah I'll create...like hardcore create for a week, and then take a week off and play a ton of other levels.

During that week I usually get as much feedback on my levels as possible to improve upon them before I move on and create sequels and such

And then its rinse and repeat...oh how I love thee LBP

I like trying to build complicated and intricate things, but due to the sometimes frustrating nature of the creature, it usually ends up getting ruined.... 2008-12-13 05:06:00

I spend more time in create mode, but right now I am kind've just searching for ideas first before creating so it gives me time to play other people's levels.2008-12-13 07:26:00
