Lap Counter!

Archive: 3 posts

Hi everysack, can anybody kindly give me a small step-by-step guide on how to make a basic Lap Counter? I would be incredibly thankful if anyone could help me out.

Cheers in Advance,

Fairly straightforward, this is, once you know how it's done.

First, start by making your checkpoints, or race-gates, whatever you want to call them. They're just invisible hologram lines, with a tag on them. Label each tag 'RaceCheckpoint1', 'RaceCheckpoint2' and so on. Do not attach these to the rest of the track. This will cause issues. They should just be hologram strips, on the track, but not connected to it.

Next, on your vehicle, you'll need a Selector. If you're using 4 race checkpoints, you need a Selector with 4 outputs.
Place an Impact Sensor to the left of the Selector, and then set it up so the Impact requires a tag. This Tag should be the same label as the first checkpoint you made earlier.
Now, this is a little confusing when written down, but bare with me. Put that Impact Sensor, into an AND Gate, and wire Selector Output 4 to the other AND Gate input. Now, wire the AND gate to the First Input on the Selector.
Rinse and Repeat this process for all the other Selector Inputs and Outputs. Each AND Gate should have the Selector Output from the previous set, while being wired into the next Selector Input. (I will add a photo later to make things easier)

If you test what you've made, in Create Mode, the Active Selector Output should now cycle as you hit each hologram checkpoint, in order.

Now, making the Lap-Counter is easy. Just work out which numbered Selector Output is active as you complete a lap, and wire that into a Counter. When the Counter is full, that should be your race over.
Now, I dunno if you know how to set up scores based on who wins and whatnot, so I'll leave that bit for now. Let me know if you can get the laps working first, and then afterwards, if you need it, I'll cover how to set up scores for whatever position you finish in.

EDIT-
Here, we go. The picture I promised.

See, the Selector Outputs don't go into their own, respective AND gates, which is the confusing bit.

Also, Damaz is a nosey git, showed up when I loaded my level, and then got in my shot. Are you happy now, Damaz? Got your little moment in the spotlight? I hope you are. Cause you ruined my beautiful photograph with your tacky costume.
