In-Plane Camera, Analog Signal Multiplier, and other subtle-but-powerful suggestions

Archive: 3 posts

Some thoughts of new gameplay tools and settings that I've though of as I've worked on several different LBP projects...

New Gadgets:

In-Plane Game Camera - A game camera that sits in the x-y plane with the top pointing in the z-axis. In other words, a camera that takes top-down games, and makes them first-person games!

Analog Signal Multiplier - a logic chip that multiplies analog signals of it's inputs (e.g., 50% * 40% = 20%). Alternatively, an 'output value' tweak option could be added to the And gate: multiply or minimum value.

Player Signal Sensor - detects specific player that triggered the logic and interprets player output (e.g., the portion of the signal that the score giver to detrmine who to give the points to).

New Tweaks:

Positional tweek on piston, winch, wobble bolt, etc. - allows the gadget to extend/rotate a portion of the way with an analog signal (e.g., a 40% signal to a piston will result in the piston extending 40%).

Output Value tweak on player sensor, tag sensor, impact sensor, etc. - output analog % of specified targets, much like the score sensor outputs % of target (e.g., if set to require 5 tags, and 3 are present, output analog value of 60%).

Tweak on look at rotator, follower, and player sensor - to look at/follow/sense specific player (e.g., player 1, 2, 3 or 4), rather than just the closest.

Other:

Showcase Level type - to tag levels that are showing off specific objects/creations, rather then full levels (e.g., added to cooperative, versus, and cutscene options)

Use Move to build level in create mode, instead of Analog stick on Dual shock, (e.g., place materials, stickers, etc.).

Text object - to place and edit text with standard and/or keyboard input, rather than manually placing individual letter stickers.

Good suggestions, but they've all been suggested far to many times on far to many threads...

I figured as much... most of these ideas seem too obvious not to have been suggested before (though, I searched fairly extensively and couldn't find them elsewhere).

That being said, is it possible to make a good suggestion too many times...

Most of these would have profound impacts on level creation... allowing some possibilities that either do not exist at all right now, or would require an insane amount of work and/or thermo to achieve!
